huntingkidPA, How about some more details on this hunt? I've been trying to get one by still hunting with the bow for the past two seasons. So congrats on getting done! I was right on a buck on public land two days ago, kept bumping him and bumping him for about 30 minutes before I finally lost him. I was close, but not close enough. Again, congrats that's an awesome way to get one. Post some details on it!

believe it or not this is my 3rd still hunt buck out of my 3 taken with a bow! haha crazy. i spend most of my time on stand but always end up getting them on the ground.

My dad has been teaching me how to still hunt since i was about 7. he taught me really good.

Basically that night i got in my stand at 3pm, and passed on 4 bucks by 5pm. I thought since i love hunting the ground so much i might as well. so i get out of my stand and start playing the wind, and moving about 2 yards per minute. Sneaking from fallen log to shrubs to trees and i see an outline of a back about 80 yards down. We were both making our way to each other. I told myself if i can get in range i gotta take him. I cut the distance to about 20 yards were i sneaked in behind i fallen tree and shrubs. I was about to take the shot when he started walking in even more. He ended up at 10 yards, eating acorns and shrubs right in front of me! it was the coolest thing. When he was done with his last supper he gave me the walking shot (quartering away) and i took it. hit the back of the lungs. He ran 50 yards and piled up. A hunt to remember.

I don't know if it matters now but i just looked up at the sign up sheet and never said what weapons i'd be using.
Rifle, Shotgun, Flintlock, Compound Bow, Recurve Bow.

Good story. I've been close several times, just haven't been able to seal the deal yet with the bow. I shoot them while walking every year during rifle season in PA. Got that skill down. But haven't whacked one that way with the bow yet.

Hey great job! I've been trying here in Indiana and the rut is really on right now I've passed on 10 bucks so far this year with the biggest being an 8 point that would probably score around a 100. I shot the other day at 2 does at 50 and 60 yards and i missed them and i couldn't figure out why so i shot my broadheads at the target and come to find out since they were fixed blades my arrow was flying weird so i went and bought some rage and now I'm shooting dead on. I'm going back out in the morning and most nights this week to see if i can get a last minute bow kill, gun season comes in next Saturday so if i don't get one now i'll get one then! Good luck to all of you!
