jrbsr 10-16-2012 05:08 PM

O.K. Who is going to be our team Captain?
It needs to be some one else besides me.
Any one want to be captain?
Any nominees?

superstrutter 10-17-2012 10:14 AM

I'm usually the captain on my turkey hunting team, but I don't care if I'm captain or not for the deer contest. If nobody else wants to do it, I will. If I am captain though, I don't want a dead thread. I want to hear from everybody throughout the season whether successful or not. Just let me know.

Now if the other 3 knotheads will check-in we can get the 50 bonus points.
I have PM messaged them 2 times.

superstrutter 10-17-2012 07:05 PM

I'll message them too. If we both stay on them maybe they will check in. BTW, my muzzleloader week starts this weekend. I have been trying to get two does with my bow the past two weeks, but the deer aren't cooperating. I killed a doe on opening day, but movement has been slow ever since. Whit oak acorns are falling early. This with plenty of water have the deer moving at a minimum, at least during daylight hours. If I don't get another doe with my bow Friday, I'll try to help the team out with one this weekend with my muzzleloader.

The deer and squirrels are not moving here either.
Since there is a lot of acorns, the deer population will be bigger because of it.
They are not where they usely are at.

PREDATE 10-19-2012 10:19 PM

Activity is starting to pick up here in NY. A guy on our predator hunting forums knocked down a great 11pt. 2 days ago. Our gun season doesn't start til 11/17 so I will change my avatar then. I agree with keeping the thread active. It's a good way to share stories/experiences, ask for tips/help, and meet new friends.

PREDATE 10-19-2012 10:30 PM

Hey Crokit, I'm only 40-50 miles directly east of you and Buckstalker is about the same to the east of me. Us 3 got the southern zone covered! You been out bowhunting? Ive seen 2 shooters in the past week, but no shot, been passing up does left and right. Rubs/scrapes are popping up fairly good now, all we need is for the temp to drop and we'll be in!
I'd better get back to sleep, I'll be up in 2 1/2 hours for a morning sit to(hopefully) shoot my Susquehanna buck that I've been eyeballin' all year.

jrbsr 10-20-2012 05:37 AM

I have PM messaged camokenny two times, and tried to email him two times.
But his email isn't any good.
If any of you know how to contact him Please do, he is the only one needed to get the extra 50 Bonus points.

crokit 10-20-2012 06:50 AM

Hey PREDATE: You must be out Endwell ways, eh?

Activity here is just starting to pick up. Been spending most of free time going to Adirondacks on day trips { 600 miles round trip } getting ready for my hunt. Set up camp this week and going for 8 days on the 4th, and the week after Thanksgiving. St. Regis Primitive area-20,000 acres- is where it's at. Going nuts with anticipation.

Yep near there. Got part of my education at Maine-Endwell.
I bet you're excited! I've never hunted up there. My fiance's grandfather is part of a club near Stillwater & Big Moose. I might get a up there sometime, even in the off season I'm sure it's a spectacular place.

Why don't all three of you meet in the middle some where and hunt together?
That would be totally awesome, especially if you all three scored.

superstrutter 10-20-2012 04:59 PM

Went out this morning with my muzzleloader. The deer just aren't moving during daylight hours. I did have a nice young 6 point come by, but other than that, just a few fawns. The more mature bucks won't really start moving til Nov.

superstrutter 10-24-2012 07:44 AM

Hunting has been tough so far. Still very little daylight movement. Hot weather isn't making it any easier. White oak acorns are falling everywhere now. Too much of a good thing can sometimes be bad. A big cold front is on the way, so at least it will be more comfortable for the opening rifle season this weekend. I pm'd the only no show, but haven't heard from him. I don't understand why people enter the contest and never check in. Anybody having any luck hunting? Let us know what's going on. I know some of you are bow hunting.

jrbsr 10-24-2012 08:42 AM

It is warm here too.
@ 12.:00 lunch it is 81 degrees f, I hope it is lower than normal temps when deer season opens Nov 10.
I am starting to find some small scraps, but no rubs yet.
I hope the 8 point I got on the trail camera last year is still around.
And is a big 10, or 12 this year, and it walks in my sights.

PREDATE 10-24-2012 12:08 PM

in the past few days I've seen 4 bucks and probably 15 doe. I could've taken a few doe, but am holding out for a buck. I couldn't get a shot on the shooter buck, but I still have 3 1/2 weeks with the bow so we'll see! Our weather has been consistantly 60's daytime and kind of rainy. I'm seeing more rubs than scrapes.

jrbsr 10-25-2012 05:14 PM

I am seeing a few scraps, but no rubs yet.
It was 84 f today, but a cold front is on the way.
I hope the temps will be colder than normal then the deer will move more.

superstrutter 10-25-2012 07:13 PM

Just got back from an afternoon hunt. I took a friend with me and we hunted two of the best stands on my property. Neither of us saw a thing. Very little daylight movement. Acorns are falling non stop, so the deer don't have to go far at all for food and water. I'm seeing scrapes and rubs now. The bucks should become active in a couple of weeks.

jrbsr 10-29-2012 10:54 AM

It is starting to look like camokenny is a no show.
His last activity was 9 - 10 - 2012
He has 2 1/2 days left before being replaced with an alternate.

superstrutter 10-29-2012 12:16 PM

I went ahead and took a doe Saturday morning with my rifle. That will give us 50 points. Sunday morning I killed a 6 pointer with my bow. He had 4 points on one side and two on the other with no brow tines. He was a 160 pound 3 1/2 year old that needed to be taken out of the gene pool.

Went out yesterday afternoon and took this nice 8 point. Got him around 6:15. He scores 121 2/8.

jrbsr 11-02-2012 07:45 PM

superstrutter has put us in First Place, with 171 2/8 points.
Way to go superstrutter.
Congratulations on some nice deer.

PREDATE 11-02-2012 09:24 PM

It is 221 2/8

Welcome our new team member , Alt - saulthunter - ontario

superstrutter 11-05-2012 08:21 AM

Okay, what is everyone doing? I know you are all not gun hunting yet, but let us know what's going on. Any pics of good bucks? Scouting? Bow hunting? Who all is gun hunting now? There's got to be something going on. Let's try to keep the thread going.

superstrutter 11-08-2012 09:33 AM

I guess nobody is in the woods. I believe things are about to heat up down here. I'm seeing some younger bucks becoming a little more active. The next few weeks should be good.

superstrutter 11-11-2012 09:34 AM

Went yesterday and watched an 8 point and a spike chase a doe. I had a feeling things were going to start a little early this season. This coming week should be good with the cooler weather on the way. I just have to take a day off work this week.
