yeah I am sleeping out there Sunday night... Got a WSW wind at about 9mph... The stand I am going to be using in the AM will be in the north east corner of property... got 4 trails leading into one... Gonna be about 100 yards away from the water hole and 40 yards away from a food source... sitting in between em... in the PM I will move to another spot to the south east for the evening if I don't get a hit in the am.... That spot is a blind just inside the brush on the north edge of a series of fields with two logging roads on each side and some pines to the east..... gonna have a few buddies out there with me...

Should I or shouldn't I, pour hydraulic oil on my neighbors salt lick? Well for 1 it's illegal in NY. He has it set on land that belongs to my dads aunt, which borders our property. He does have hunting permission, but he's absolutely littered the place with treestands, one of which is about 15Yds. off our line. I've hunted it all of my life and he's just trying to claim it as his own. All of this land has been in my family since the 1860's.
The guy is just a freeking heeeb. It's about a 300Yd. walk to his stands, but no, he has to blaze through on his 4-wheeler. He's ran over my coyote traps, his buddies have stolen my traps, shot the (fiberglass) windows out of a box blind, and that's just to name a few. We have tried not to start problems with this guy, but he's bringing it upon himself. I probably won't pour hydraulic oil on it, besides, have you seen the price on hydraulic oil lately?, I'm just gonna confront him on everything, Hmmmm...... Monday morning sounds good, atleast I'll know where to find him!!! I'll be like a Walker hound on a coon, just following his trail of empty "buckbomb" cans! I'm just venting here a little bit guys, so I don't do something drastic, like bust out the old Mculloch chainsaw and fell all of the trees that contain a ladder stand, (Sunday evening, no less)!LOL I don't hunt there all that much til' gun season, mostly because of this guy and his cronies that he just takes upon himself to invite up there. They don't seem to understand that deer know to avoid 4-wheelers! |
should have set up trail cam s on it... Then called the DEC... He would think again before setting foot on the property and he would know your watching...

Season can't come soon enough!! It doesn't help when it seems like so many guys are hunting already and I'm having to wait until October 1st. Creeping ever so closer. October 1st is less than a week away but I will probably have to wait until the next weekend to hunt. Good luck to everyone hunting already!

Poisoning his salt licks is only punishing the wildlife. I would poor bleach at the base of all his tree stands ,or just confront the guy and tell him that if the crap continues he will be eating through a straw.
Yeah bleach around his stands would be funny... I would have lost it... But still put trail cams out to watch your stuff too... |

It would be cool if everyone would post a pic of themselves so we can all put a face behind the names. You may have already, but i still wouldn't know because i haven't read through the whole thread yet.
This is a pic of me. And "no" i wasn't on a hunting show. This was a poster i designed for a contest through Martin. |
Thats a pretty cool poster. How did that turn out???

I feel your pain. I have everything washed up, and sitting outside in a rubbermaid tub. I even have pre_washed my towel for that morning, socks and underwear. Every night i find myself thinking of things i can do to make me that much more prepared. Last night i got bored and put together a ziplock bag full of everything i need to field dress lol. It has rubber gloves, knife, tag, ink pen, zip ties, butt-out, and wet wipes . This waiting crap is killing me.

Question about the scoring... Now From the way I am reading it if you take a doe it is 25 points. If I take a doe and use it for points then I get a buck will the doe still count or only one deer will count???
|
both deer will count. 25 points for a doe, and whatever your buck scores (hopefully 150+) lol
|
Hey guys. Well I have only been able to make it out in the field a few times since my season opened on 9/15. I have only seen a few deer so far. Nothing big. I was full draw on a doe at 10 yards but it was still 70 degrees out and I didn't feel like tracking, dressing, and butchering in that heat so I let her walk. Definitely got my blood flowing though.
I am planning on hunting a new spot this weekend. I have only seen the property once so it will probably be more of a scouting trip but who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and get a doe. As far as does go, I am a lock for 1 to 3 every year, with a 50/50 chance for a buck. There are two properties that I hunt where I would take an 80" + buck and two properties that I will only shoot one over 120". All are hunted pretty hard by others though so we will have to wait and see. |
Phil,
Thanks for filling us in on your season so far. I hope you get to see more stand time. Sounds like your staying in a positive mindset! Good luck out there! BTW what's the temp like in Wis. now? I'm getting sick of the warm days. Anything over 65 is starting to feel oppressive!lol |
Had a talk with the neighbor yesterday. I think he's coming around to my way of thinking!lol

A high of 73 today. A bit warmer than we like. I think with the moon almost full and the warm temps they have been waiting till dark to move.
|
I watched 12 deer come out to feed 2 evenings ago on our winter rye that we planted 2 weeks ago. It's already 3" tall. Mostly does and a few smaller 1 year old bucks. 1 was a tall rack 8. They were in the field 20 minutes before dark
|
Y'all make me sick with your "ugh it's Gunna be in the 70's today" lol. I am looking at the ten day forecast and got excited when I seen one day that was staying in the 70's! I was pumped to see the temps dipping down into the upper 50's, to bad ill be working and by next weekend it's back in the 80's. Couldn't make myself get out in the pouring rain today to go check cameras, I will go check tomorrow. Good luck to everyone hunting. Keep us posted.

I had a good opening day. Saw lot's of deer during my morning hunt and laid the smack down on a nice sized doe. Went back that evening with my son and sat in a blind for less than 40 mins and shot a pretty small doe. It was his first ever hunt and he really wanted to see me shoot something, normally i would have let that small doe pass. He is pumped and wants to go out again today.

That's awesome bud!!! Did u shoot that with your bow? Because we would get points if you did, (if you have a picture with your bow and the deer and you)!
|
Dang! Hopefully you can shoot another one and get a picture with it. Would suck to lose out on your doe points because of the picture, but happens every year!
EVERYONE PLEASE GET A PICTURE WITH YOU DEER (WHOLE DEER) (BUCK AND OR DOE), YOURSELF, AND YOUR BOW. TEAMS LOSE OUT ON POINTS EVERY YEAR BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ALL THREE IN THE PIC. |

|
Only been out with the bow once. I might get out tomorrow A.M.
I did just lay the smack down on a coyote though! 115Yds w/.22Mag (1shot=1kill) |
No news is good news! It means you all are hunting hard! Keep at it!
I will be out in the AM......finally! |
Went out Saturday morning, saw a total of 15 doe. 2 came in to 20yds but never stepped into an opening giving me a clear shot. I did see a fresh rub 25yds from my stand. probably be out again next Saturday.
|
Spent most of Sunday helping my brother and dad track a buck that my dad shot Saturday evening. I sat for the evening. Had 3 doe @ 25Yds. I didn't shoot.
I'll be up in a few hours heading out for my first morning hunt of 2012. Low 30's and frost!:woot: |
![]() This is a picture that you never want to see!!! This is my target buck watching me walk to my stand on Sunday morning! I was about 25 yards from him when this picture was taken. I was telling myself that if I could make it in undetected, that I would have a good shot at killing him this morning. I just got done telling myself, "phewww i made it, now just get in the stand and get set up and we in the clear". I never thought they would let me get so close before blowing out of there. I guess my sneaky little self with my little red light worked to some extent! lol. I still didnt know what deer blew me until about 10:30 when i got down and checked my camera. Ive been pretty bummed ever since! i doubt he will be back in the area (during daylight) until maybe rut. hope everyone else had a good weekend. lets hear about it! |
