Covered up by deer still. No shooters yet. Did see a nice tall 8. He'll be nice in a couple years. Ill get my doe pic up pretty quick.

WooHoo! Another Doe! Get that baby posted!

Bucktail_Bob 10-28-2012 05:37 PM

First buck on the board, took a nine pointer with a kicker this morning. Nothing huge low 120's I'm thinking.

zubba 10-28-2012 06:10 PM

Friday morning was a pretty good morning for deer movement. Saw a pile of doe and a 120" 7 pointer make a scrape 12 yards in front of me while grunting his head off. Calendar turns November 1st this week, it is go time. I got a lot of time in the timber coming up. Will be back out there thursday-Monday. good luck everyone.

BetterBirddogs 10-28-2012 06:14 PM

That's what I like to hear Bob! If everyone on the team shoots a 120 we will run away with this thing. Here's my doe.

Funny story on this doe. I shoot her at about 12 yards and she is really quartering to me bad. I center punch this doe and she hops off about 20 yards and just stands there. She is pouring blood out of the exit hole. She then casually walks off into the creek behind me. I had so many deer moving around me yesterday morning that I had to sit on stand until is calmed down around 1130. I get down and take the trail up. It goes about 30 yards in towards the creek and then nothing. I call up the wife and tell her to bring my jack russells down I'm gonna let them try to find this deer. She shows up and I put them on the trail. (they're 12 months old and never tracked before) my female (pictured) tracks right into the woods where I lost the blood. She heads down across the creek and picks it up again and tracks about 15 more yards up the slope to my deer piled up under an evergreen. The deer didn't go 40 yards but it was thick. I hope to build on this with the jacks.

Here she is.

Ok guys I sat tonight again and man it was on again. I was on another place about 2 miles straight south of where I sat Saturday morning. I get setup at about 330. At 350 here comes the do train. Little bucks chasing everywhere. It was fun. At about 630 I look back behind me and I see two big deer stepping about. They're about 150 yards from me but I have a doe right below me. Next thing I know here they come. Two 10's and the second deer is a nice deer. Both look young to me. I have them both at 35 yards and I passed on them. I have the taller deer on a cam from the 22nd. Tell me what you think. I may have made a mistake but he looks like a 3 year old.

I'm after something really nice. Here is another deer on the same camera. He looks to be a 4 year old deer and I would probably think long and hard about shooting this deer if he walked by. What do you think?

I'm getting pretty damn picky all the sudden but I will not kill an immature deer and I would rather not shoot one at all then make a mistake. It's amazing at how similar these two deer look. It's going to be a good season. I was down with my stuff getting stolen but man things are looking up. I was surprised to see two nice deer still together. I thought it might be an early rut this year but after seeing them together tonight I think it will be right on time. I'm off halloween and I will be after them again. Get some pics up Bob!

KCMO Cityboy 10-29-2012 10:02 AM

Yeah! Great reports guys. Glad we will have a buck on the boards soon. Looking forward to some pics of that guy. Hey Birddog, sweet meat for the table there. You just go ahead and shoot whatever you like. I think you will know it when you see it, right?
I did my Saturday evening and Sunday morning hunt and saw a fair amount of activity. Saw a stout 8 pointer (probably 120 at most) chasing doe Sunday morning and saw him Saturday just out on a stroll. Several forks and spikes. With all the activity I never had a doe pass through a shooting lane (For this managed hunt I have to shoot a doe before I shoot a buck). My stand that I put up at the last minute when I was scouting has very few shooting lanes so next time I'm out there I will do a little pruning. Will be out there Tuesday morning to give it another try.

Bucktail_Bob 10-29-2012 02:22 PM

Here are some pics, I'll get the tape on it tonight. Check out the funky G3. I shot at first light yesterday 28 yds he was alone., No doe, I passed on some very small yearlings. I had a doe at 28 yds a hour after I stuck the buck, I was ready to draw, then I heard grunts so I waited to see and here comes a nice 3 year old 135 class 8 point. I did not have another buck tag.....less than 5 minutes later comes a 6 point and a 135 class 10 point on the same trail. Awesome morning.

KCMO Cityboy 10-29-2012 02:36 PM

Funky G3 indeed! He must have had some sort of wierd collision with a tree. Another very nice buck from Bucktail Bob. Congratulations.
I want a shed and a hoist like yours!!

BetterBirddogs 10-29-2012 03:45 PM

That is weird on that G3. Nice buck indeed. That gets us off and rolling for sure. I'm off Halloween and plan to get up close and personal with one. I saw a nice mature deer on the way to work this morning. They are on the move here in SE KS.

I had the same thing happen two year ago. I shot a nice 140 class 8 that was with a doe and then just when I was about to get down here comes a 160 class 11. I just watched him walk by at 20 yards and go and take that dead bucks doe. Pretty neat.

whacker 10-29-2012 06:52 PM

nice buck bob! soon as this hurricane passes i'll be hunting hard till thanksgiving. I killed a bb last week with the smokepole so i have a bonus buck tag. I hunt all public land and I'm going to arrow the first buck over 110". I'll hold off and wait for a pig for the second tag. Im thinking wednesday afternoon will be intense after the winds and rains of sandy. Good luck to everyone.

zubba 10-30-2012 05:23 AM

Congrats Bob!!! Nice buck & very cool G3. Way to get us on the board. Congrats!!!

joejr69 10-31-2012 03:48 AM

pa_yote_hunter 11-01-2012 03:17 PM

Oh!!, so now I have to add the Lund to the list!!!

KCMO Cityboy 11-02-2012 09:37 AM

Gonna head out this afternoon and see what walks by. Still need to get my doe for this managed hunt that I'm doing.

Bucktail_Bob 11-02-2012 10:34 AM

Good luck everyone, we had 6 on the board last year, not to put any pressure on anyone. Study hard.
Also, check out the cam pic, this farm is 1/2 mile from where we hunt. To bad he was not on stand that Sun afternoon.

BetterBirddogs 11-02-2012 10:51 AM

Sunday was a funny day the big bucks were moving here too. I'll be after em all weekend this weekend. My vacation starts the 9th and I'm off till after Thanksgiving

pa_yote_hunter 11-02-2012 06:50 PM

Heading out in the morning.....I just want to get some meat and some points on the board...I know the deer are starting to chase up here, but if I get a shot at a doe I am taking it.....Usually don't go all the way to November without a doe on the ground.

whacker 11-03-2012 06:46 AM

Hunted the past three night and this morning. Passed up 7 small bucks during the time. Young deer are chasing hard here in the Eastern Shore of MD. That was the good news. The bad news is that I missed a chip shot (34 yards ) on a nice 120-125 7 pt last night. Not sure what happened but shot about 3 inches low on him. I'll be out all day Tuesday so hopefully I can gain some redemption. If not I'll be able to hunt at some length every day from then till thanksgiving. Good luck everyone

BetterBirddogs 11-03-2012 11:22 AM

That sucks whacker. You'll get another chance I'm sure of it. I had a really nice 9 pointer on me this morning somedoes but that's it. Driving down the road right now headed to a new spot as I type this. This is the place I shot my deer off last year lots of big deer on this place

pa_yote_hunter 11-03-2012 01:23 PM

So I shot a small doe this morning...and by small I mean small. Its points on the board and food in the freezer. While tracking her I jumped two NICE bucks.....I know now what I am going to be doing the next few weeks!

Ugh.....wish I had that luxury. Good looking deer.....the thing that gets me is you call him Junior......I would love to meet Senior!!!

KCMO Cityboy 11-03-2012 05:34 PM

You call him Junior? :jaw:
Nice doe Yote. Congrats.

Bucktail_Bob 11-03-2012 06:13 PM

Whacker, been there done that, damn primitive weapons. I stayed home this weekend, my buddy stuck a nice 3 year old 9 pointer this morning, it was from the same stand I stuck mine last weekend. It was by itself at 11 am. Rattled in. My other buddy's 10 year old arrowed his first today. It's killing me not being there.

zubba 11-03-2012 07:02 PM

I put a pretty descent buck on the ground. He is an 11 with an 18" spread. Shot him at 9:00 yesterday morning. He was chasing 2 does. They ran off leaving him by himself at 120 yards. A few grunts and bleats later had him coming in. Double lunged him at 35 yards. Just put a tape on him and he came in at 137.25". I'll get my bow pic and score breakout posted soon.

Awesome buck man!!! I call him Junior because senior was shot last year by my twin brother...

He's the one on the left. 178" gross. Name Deep Forks.

If Junior gets too close I may have to take him as the neighbors said they will most likely take him...

Bucktail_Bob 11-04-2012 01:51 PM

Zubba, awesome buck. Way to go.

joejr69 11-05-2012 01:29 AM

Awesome buck.congrats !

KCMO Cityboy 11-05-2012 04:52 AM

Awesome buck Kurt. Looks like your daughter is ready for a pony ride!
I saw just a little activity this weekend. Nothing like last weekend. I'm working a few half-days this week so that I can get out in the field this week. My drought HAS to end soon. I decided that I'll leave the video camera at home for now so that I can focus on the #1 objective.

BetterBirddogs 11-05-2012 04:53 AM

Good nice buck zubba for sure. Pretty slow weekend here. Not a lot of deer movement. Looks like it might be an overnight rut here if this weather stays warm like this. I'm off for 17 days starting this Friday. Hopefully I'll see something with shooting.

pa_yote_hunter 11-05-2012 07:53 PM

So I hunt a very small woodlot in a suburb of Philly. I usually see a good number of deer, but never any giants. I guess any points are good points though. I took a small 7pt tonight. First buck I have seen that was legal to shoot here since 2008......yeah....crazy right. I come from Missouri where we wouldn't think about taking a buck this size, but boy how things change when this is what you got to work with! The thing is they move so frequently from woodlot to woodlot and get shot at so many times, hit by cars, that it is a blessing to see a deer like this. I am so grateful that I was able to harvest this deer. I guess its not about the size of the rack, but about the hunt itself, and the fact that I was blessed to have the opportunity to take a buck. I am happy that I am finally able to help the team out since last year I posted a big fat 0 points.

I will get the score up (as well as actual pic with bow) as soon as I can get the measuring tape out and go to town....

SouthDakotaHunter 11-05-2012 08:17 PM

WOW - everyone has been busy - ha ha... Big congrats to everyone that has filled a tag - some great looking bucks and does!

I've been hunting my butt off. I hit a branch when shooting at a really big 4x4 (for around here at least - pic of him below) - still haunts me. Been passing a bunch of small bucks but haven't seen any other shooters yet - no real rut activity - minus some small bucks early or late sniffing around a little... Funny thing is that that I was seeing tons of bucks 2 weeks ago and now I'm seeing a fraction of what I was seeing.... Hopefully its the calm before the storm....

BetterBirddogs 11-06-2012 05:25 AM

Nice buck PA. All those points will add up brother.

Funny the same activity here. Saw nice deer two weeks ago then nothing. I think you're right about the calm before the storm.

Wind is right for my A game stand tonight so going to get settled in later this afternoon for a nice evening sit... Good luck to everyone out hunting!

BetterBirddogs 11-06-2012 09:43 AM

Looks like a weather change for sunday and Monday. I'm gonna be out all day starting Saturday until after Thanksgiving or until one makes a mistake. Whichever comes first.

KCMO Cityboy 11-06-2012 10:06 AM

Nice buck there Yote! Congratulations. I'm glad you connected on one this year.
Our team is looking great again this year and we temporarily have the lead based on what is posted on the scorecard. Team 8, however, has taken a couple of real nice bucks, one of which is 160. So, for now, they are about 180 ahead of us. I know that's temporary, of course!
Have fun out there TEAM.
