Very Nice Buck Monster!!! Way to go!!!

dmounts 10-04-2011 08:53 AM

I sent Fieldmouse an message...he currently has Monsters buck listed under Team 7. It's a simple mistake, but we need all the points we can get! LOL. I'm sure it will get fixed when he has a chance, so no need to message him again.

backwoods13 10-04-2011 11:30 AM

I seen that to dmounts and i send zink a message also..

dmounts 10-11-2011 08:19 AM

Its been pretty warm here recently in PA. The temperature is going to start to drop tomorrow, so this weekend should be decent weather. I'll let you know if I see anything worth advertising. Good luck guys.

PREDATE 10-12-2011 08:59 PM

Hopefully I can put one down this weekend! I'm pumped for opening day! I've got my eyes on a few good deer!

UFunny2 10-13-2011 11:16 AM

Hey guys...haven't posted yet, but have been watching the board. Congrats M7 on your buck. I took off this week to hunt a 900 acre property that a family member recently purchased. I brought my camper and planned to stay all week. Unfortunately, work called me back yesterday. I plan on getting back tomorrow for the evening and Saturday. I never had opportunity to scout the property, so Monday and Tuesday was pretty much scouting and learning the lay of the land. I've seen tons of doe and a few bucks way out in the hay fields, but nothing close to my stand. I think I've narrowed my stand locations to a few choice areas and am ready to sit them this weekend. Will let you know how it turns out...

backwoods13 10-13-2011 04:10 PM

good luck ufuuny2

WIbuckchaser 10-15-2011 06:43 PM

This morning I had two bucks come in to about 60 yards after I blew on the Primos Buck Roar. I think I might try the same area in the morning but I am going to bring my rattling antlers with this time.

backwoods13 10-17-2011 06:16 AM

Well guys it looks like we have some ground to make up.. I will be in stand tonight.

dmounts 10-17-2011 08:43 AM

Hunted Saturday afternoon. Saw 9 doe and caught a glimpse of some horn around 7pm, but couldn't make out how big he was. Except for the 30-40 mph winds, it was nice to finally be out.

PREDATE 10-17-2011 05:37 PM

I walked up on a shooter this A.M at 10:00. I was on my way out of the woods. I didn't have very long to judge the score on his rack because as soon as I identified him he stood up and I let one fly(25yds.)!! I didn't get a pass-thru and haven't found blood(yet)! I was standing on the dike of our pond and he was about 15ft. lower than me. I heard the THWACK and he bounded(flag down) for about 40yds. jumped the barbed wire then I watched him slink through the brush. At 150 yds. out he turned to go downhill but the neighbors house made him change his mind. He then casually ambled uphill about 40 more yds. and I lost sight of him. I could not find the arrow, blood or hair where he was first hit. So I backed out for 4 hours. I went back to where he started bounding and started trailing from there. About 100 yds. from where he was hit I found 2 nickel sized tufts of white hair. I went to where I last seen him and couldn't pinpoint his trail because the field is overgrown with goldenrod, bushes, saplings, briars, Etc. I started doing circles hoping to atleast cut a track, but nothing! The field ends about 60 yds. past where I seen him last and turns into open woods for 150 yds then gets even thicker than the field. Do ya'll think he would have left the thick feild and went into the woods? He was quartering away when I shot. I hope the white hair is just from his opposite armpit. I believe I made a good hit but to not find any blood is awefully discouraging. I'm gonna scour the area tomorrow. It's so freakin' thick I hope I just trip over him!:bash:

backwoods13 10-17-2011 08:14 PM

good luck on finding him..

PREDATE 10-20-2011 03:29 PM

Well, sorry to say that I couldn't find the buck!! I trapsed the area for hours and found no sign whatsoever! Hopefully he isn't mortally wounded and survives! I'm not making excuses for myself but, there were a few twigs that may have affected my arrows flight. Good huntin' guys!

mbruizer187 10-20-2011 03:58 PM

It happens man, good luck. Started hunting Saturday, saw 2 doe in the morning, then nothing in the woods the rest of the weekend, had tons of wind and rain. My brother and friend that i hunt with, took the 2 field stands and saw deer all weekend in the fields, and my friend scored a heart shot on an 8 pointer, Monday night i hopped in the ladder stand over looking the fields to see what kind of movement was going on and where. Well 800yards across the fields i spot 3 does and 2 fawn coming out of a cornfield and into an open cut before the woods, so i watched them mill around and head up the hill into the woods, 2 minutes later more movement same spot, and out of the corn comes a nice thick 10 point followed by a 6. the 10 follows the does trail to the T and heads up the hill and the 6 splits off and heads over toward the hang-on stand i have up on that hill. then right before dark in the field i am in a 6 point comes out 100yrds up from me and continues away, while watching him a big 8 steps out of the same spot and into the field after him, now its just about black out, so i sneak down the field to get out without being seen and get to about 100 yards from where i seen them last, and here antlers smashing lol. so i listened for a while and continued out. Sorry for the long post havent posted in a while in here, just an update.

Well keep your head up and try it again. Hopefully your bad luck is over. It's nice to see that people are seeing and getting opportunities. Hopefully I get a crack at one this weekend.

minnesotadeer 10-21-2011 06:40 PM

Congrats Monster! And I feel your pain PREDATE. Been out 4 times this year and saw deer each time, just no bucks. Not usual though, for the grounds I hunt. I have bucks on trail cams and looking forward to the next couple of weeks. Good luck guys!

UFunny2 10-22-2011 07:40 AM

Well guys...thought i would have a post like his but.... At 8:00 this morning i had the big boy coming to me from behind. Never heard him, finally saw him at 25 yds dead on and down wind. He knew something wasnt right and got very cautious. Me?, im sitting in my summit with my legs crossed and bow hanging. I was able to get my bow down and release hooked, but wasnt chancing uncrossing the legs (never practiced that way). At 10 yds he had enough and bolted to my left and stopped at 25 yds. I uncrossed the legs and drew back at the same time. Found my mark and released.! Shot looked good but made a loud crack instead of thwack and he took off. I waited 40 minutes (shot a doe while waiting which dropped within sight) got down, found major bright red blood, my arrow bout 10 yds with blood 2/3 up the shaft. Excellent trail for several hundred yds...then nothing. Man my guts are in knots... Back at camp Grabing lunch now and heading back out. Also this is not easy to post from an iphone. Will keep y'all updated!!!

well dont get down and out yet, arrow could have stopped on opposite shoulder or leg. just stay deligent and you should find him dont rush it and remember his reaction and where he was going. Good Luck.

backwoods13 10-22-2011 11:29 AM

Sound like you hit the opposite shoulder. so just give him some time and i think u should find him..good luck..

As a New Yorker, I can say that you had a good amount of action on monday!! Good luck to you! I've been sticking to the thick overgrown fields. There are not as many corn fields down this way. I walked in the house the other night at dark and went back out 10 minutes later to take garbage to the road and 20 yds. off my deck was a deer at the bird feeder! It must've stalked me home!!!:happy0157:

UFunny2 10-22-2011 04:48 PM

Thanks for everyones input. I searched until 3:30 this afternoon and nothing. Its very heartbreaking. I'm camped by myself so i have nobody to assist in looking. With amount of blood in the ground, i dont know how he keeps going. I'll listen for coyotes tonight. I did kill another doe this evening, so it was a productive day! Three shots two does hanging. Just wish the bucks would fall as easy. I'll take another walk in the am, until then sipping jeager by the campfire

PREDATE 10-22-2011 05:01 PM

Did it seem as if he bedded down? Did he run up or downhill? How far did you follow blood? Good luck in the A.M. Try not to get all bombed on the jeager!! But if ya' do, we want pictures!!!LOL

UFunny2 10-22-2011 05:31 PM

I'd say i tracked blood bout 300 yds b4 iost it. He stayed perpindicular with the hillside travelling pretty straight. Found a few spots where he stopped but doesnt look like he bedded. I think this buck wouldve pushed 140". Lol, i have deer snorting to the left and right of me as i post this.

PREDATE 10-22-2011 05:55 PM

How many tags ya'all get down there?

.

You get 3 either sex tags and 3 antlerless tags with your big game license. Plus after you've used all 6 you can buy bonus antlerless tags which is 2 tags for $10. Also, i have access to land that gets 50 dmap tags assigned to it, which is separate from big game tags. If have land to hunt in certain areas of virginia, you can antlerless bow hunt from beginning of sept to the end of march. Too many deer in Va!

UFunny2 10-23-2011 02:28 PM

Back home now. Before I left the property today, I did another walkabout and disappointingly found nothing. I totaled 9.5 hours looking for this deer. Saturday morning was quite a morning and nothing happened until 8:00. The buck I shot was the first deer I saw of the day. Shortly after that, I shot a doe and could have easily shot its companions. They just hung around snorting. Around the same time a 7 pt chased another doe past my stand and he stopped broadside at 20 yards to see why all the commotion. A cow horn strolled up the hill as the 7 pt left. I've seen the cow horn all three days, he's got the sense of a stupid juvenile! While following my bucks blood trail, I came across numerous fresh scrapes. One of the doe I shot had that glandular odor, that and all the scrapes makes me wonder if this is some type of early rut. Even though I didn't find him, I still consider this hunt a success! Hopefully, he's still alive and will limp by me in the near future!

PREDATE 10-23-2011 05:48 PM

I got a bad sign this evening!!! Just after a doe winded me an all black tomcat climbed up in the blown down tree with me, I let him get about 4 ft. away before I showed him my teeth. Sorry to hear about your lost buck Ufunny2. You'll get him next time!!

backwoods13 10-25-2011 01:26 PM

Good luck to you and the rest of the team. Sunday night I harvested a doe. It was a good feeling. I seen three bucks total over the weekend but the biggest I saw was a 2.5 year old 8 pt. and he was way too far.

backwoods13 10-25-2011 02:59 PM

We need to get a few more points on the board..

backwoods13 10-27-2011 11:31 AM

hey guys i went out yesterday morning and i seen a one deer and it was a the biggest 4 pt I have seen in a long time. I think it would have scored in the high 70s maybe 80s lol
