I have a .17 hmr great gun. It COULD kill coyotes at 250 yards, I would not suggest it though. Id say about 100 - 150 yardswould be the most you could kill a coyote with it. Thats if your confident at that far. A .17 hmr is a necked down .22 mag brass, made to shoot the .17 caliber bullet not a .22 caliber bullet. It flys a heck of alot faster then a .22 mag but its also lighter. I think im not sure on this so dont hold me to it , but a .22 mag lead is like 42 grains? A .17 bullet is only 17 grains or 20 grains what ever bullet you buy. If ya got any other questions just PM me
