I went out this afternoon and I was walking around the woods trying several methods to try to strike up a gobbler with no luck I just kept on walking. I look up and 30yds there is a turkey feeding. I plopped down on the ground and put on my gloves and facemask. Somehow that turkey never saw me or heard me because the leaves were very dry. Unfortunately it was a jake. It took some self control not to fold him up. Our game and fish made shooting jakes illegal this year due to the poor hatches we have been having. It was a cool encounter he got within about 15yds and moved off. I tried yelping and cutting at him to get him to gobble and strut to get a good look at his tail fan, but he never did anything.

Nice job bowshot.
Yes you have it right.
There is a link to scoring on the turkey contest page, scoring your bird.
Lets see some pictures and hear the story.

My season is over, I did not get a bird this year. I would have a hard time believing anyone tried harder. Next year I will be ready.

Long, tiring day saturday, so i decided not to get up early today. So 9:00, grabbed gun, walked down steps to pool, stepped off pool deck, walked 10 steps, entered blind (threw out a decoy a few yards out too). 9:05 here comes a hen, walks near decoy, I clucked a couple times, then noticed the tom 30 yrds behind it. I waited until her followed his hen and took the shot. At 9:10 I was standing over my bird.

20 lbs
9 in beard
20 mm spurs

I smoked us a good one yesterday. It had 2 beards. One was 10 7/16" and the other was 8 3/4". Spurs were 1 5/16" each and it weighed 20.55 lbs.
Beard #1 = 10.4375 x 2 = 20.875
Beard #2 = 8.75 x 2 = 17.50
Spurs 1.3125 x 2 = 13.125 x 2 = 26.25
wt. = 20.55
20.875+17.50+13.125+13.125+20.55 = 85.175

Tim I will email pictures tonight.

Hey bud,
Do me a favor and use the scorer to score your own bird. I don't feel like converting mm to inches.
Thanks, Tim
