Team 8 - Weclome to your team thread! As we have more people sign up (in the alternate sign up thread) we will add more people to the teams.

Everyone needs to check in on this team (by posting here, on this team thread, so we know you're still in the contest).

First order of business is to pick a team captain. Each person should nominate a teammate that you think would be a good leader. Team Captain will score each turkey killed (NWTF Score) and post each hunter's bird (with pictures) in the results thread.

GOOD LUCK Team 8!!! :)

steve25 03-01-2011 09:37 PM

steve25 checking in.

As far as team caption, don't pick me.... And I have no idea on who to suggest, unless we need a tie braker I will obstain from nominating anyone.

JGreen76 Checking in

camokenny 03-02-2011 03:45 PM

camokenny checking in. Lets do this guys, i'm pumped for the contest this year coming in high overall last year for total birds entered and winning the bow contest this last fall im ready to smoke some gobblers. I was team captian last year in this contest, I would do it again this spring if needed.

steve25 03-02-2011 10:51 PM

I guess before long we need to come up with a team name.

If anyone has ideas let's through them around and see what we can come up with.

camokenny Since you already have been a team leader in the past, it seems you would be a logical choice but i feel we need to wait until we get more members in group.

I sure hope this year is better than last year. Seems like evertime I would go they would gobble once and that was it. Needles to say I didn't harvest a turkey last year. Heck there where many days not one gobble was heard by me.

I am going to try a new area this year, been meaning to check it out the past couple of seasons just haven't had a chance.

I know in Missouri they are expecting the harvest to be down some this year again. We just can't get the weather to do it's part in the nesting process, past 3-4 years it either rains to much or gets to warm for to long during early March then come April the bottom fails out of the temp.

midsouth_hunter 03-04-2011 05:54 AM

Hello everyone, checking in. Looking forward to a great season. I will be hunting Florida only this year.

Whitetailmadness 03-05-2011 12:58 PM

Holy crap! Nobody left the team yet after finding me on it? Well, in 6 seasons I have only 4 birds but I guess thats better than none at all. Im here and awaiting my orders Captain.

ksfowler 03-05-2011 06:17 PM

Well I have some good news and bad news. I am more than likely going to be moving to Wy. in the near future so I am not sure on how much hunting i will beable to get done this spring. I am not even sure if there are even turkeys in Wy:confused0024:? But the good news is I am going to have a pretty good pay increase and it will be kind of nice buying resident elk and mule deer tags:s4:. I will try and make it out some this spring, but i wont make any promises.

Hi guys and gals. Looking forward to a great season. I live in South Alabama and hunt many states a year. My first hunt will be in Mississippi this Sat-Sun. Then we start in our home state that Tues. the 15th. I'm kinda a junkie and will be hunting many other states such as Fl. March 31-April 3, then Oklahoma April 5-8, Missouri April 18-25, but will hop over to Kansas after we harvest our first bird in MO that week. Other hunts here in my home state will figure in as well as one to Ga. Just haven't figured when I will get over there. Hoping for a great score from my Missouri bird. We always shoot some heavy weights up there! If anyone is in my area, shoot me a pm. and come down and hunt with me!

Nauticstar 03-08-2011 02:55 PM

So where is everyone hunting this year?

steve25 03-08-2011 09:06 PM

I hunt in Southeast Missouri and my season doesn't start until April 18th and ends May 8th.

I will be taking my 2 youngest kids to Arkansas for a youth WMA hunt on April 9th and 10th

silent arrow 03-09-2011 05:56 PM

"silent arrow" checking in. my season doesn't start til next month but i'm biting the bit waiting for it. dont pick me for team captain! N.C. LONBBEARD BLASTER READY FOR ACTION!

steve25 03-10-2011 08:58 PM

We need to get the ball rolling on the team captain and also get ourselves a team name.

Most team members have signed in.

Anyone want to be team captain?

Anyone got any suggestions on a team name?

I am drawing a blank on the team name. But I am not very creative.

Also I don't want to be captain.

What are the responsibilities of a team captain? I pretty much have the time to manage it if need be. Just be hunting a great deal. Let me know and I can probably do it. Name???? Hmmm.....Throw some out there and we will make a decision.

silent arrow 03-13-2011 08:26 PM

how bout this we'll select one person to put names in a hat and whoever gets drawed is captain.

steve25 03-13-2011 08:34 PM

delete please

steve25 03-13-2011 08:36 PM

Looked over the scoring system and what a team captain does..

I have all kinds of time and I would like to do this.

If anyone else wants to please reply ASAP so we can have a vote.

Now let's get some team name suggestions.

How about:

Turkey Assassinators

or

Swingin' Beards Destoryer's

Sounds good man! I will proxy my vote to you for name! I'm headed out today for Bama's opener.

silent arrow 03-14-2011 02:18 PM

steve you got my vote. we do need to name our team. we have to make sure our name is as creative and determined as we "team 8" are. we have a shot to win this contest if we hunt smart and lady luck shines on us a bit. this isnt some inspirational crap just the facts. i hope all of us has a safe, enjoyable, and successful season!

steve25 03-14-2011 02:57 PM

Is see a name similar to the Turkey assassinators, there team name is Springtime Assassions.

I wish I could come up with something better but all I can think of is something to do with other name

Swingin' Beard Mafia

I need some help with the name so please throw something out there or add your own twist to the Swingin' Beard one.

I am not good with coming up with names.

Waldo Hunter 03-14-2011 07:18 PM

Waldo hunter from Kansas checkin in! Cant wait for April 1st to get here. I will be out there opening day with my bow. I will try to think of a name, but no promises as my creativity is limited :) Good luck to all, sorry it took so long to check in

silent arrow 03-14-2011 08:35 PM

steve25 03-14-2011 10:19 PM

I give my vote for team names to the

Long Beard Mafia

Good one silent arrow :hail:

What does everyone else think?

steve25 03-14-2011 10:33 PM

I have all kinds of time so if yall have no objections I would like to be team captian.

I would also like to go with the name silent arrow came up with:

Long Beard Mafia

I am not tring to be pushy just would like to get this out of the way.

If you would like to do something else as far as team captian and team name I am all ears.

steve25 03-15-2011 12:11 PM

I went ahead and took on the role of team captain.

I also choice Long Beard Mafia as our team name.

I hope I didn't step on anyones toes just wanting get things going and I have more than enough time to handle what the team captain responsibilities are.

silent arrow 03-15-2011 03:24 PM

longbeard mafia! you all are "made men" now! welcome to the familia! now i know how the soprano's feel. (ha-ha) steve25 is "da boss" ha-ha come on steve give us your best brando impression! we are all "Turkey goodfellas" ha-ha good ole boys to goodfellas ha-ha!

silent arrow 03-15-2011 05:22 PM

What do ya'll think of the avatar as a team pic?

steve25 03-15-2011 06:49 PM

Silent Arrow

No Brando impressions, don't want to taint the legacy:s4:

Did you make that Avatar?

Wish we could have an avatar like that with a turkey head and neck on it with what it looks like when you shot a paper target with a shotgun. And put something along the lines of: Long Beard Mafia's Most Wanted on the name plate.

Kind of cheesy, I know but if we could take that general idea and tweek it I think it would look good

steve25 03-15-2011 07:34 PM

Everyone PLEASE PM me your mailing address.

The reason is so I can get the turkey contest sticker out to you when I receive them.

Thanks

Nauticstar 03-16-2011 01:46 AM

Nauticstar checking in! Score one for the Longbeard Mafia! I killed one opening day here in Bama-15th. Not a monster but good bird. 16 1/2 lbs., 10 1/4" beard, and 3/4" spurs. Good start. I will get pics up by the weekend. At my camp in rural Alabama with only an iPhone.

steve25 03-16-2011 02:41 AM

Nice Job!!!!

We are off an runnin'!!!

To bad I am stuck at the gate until April 18th:s8:

Going to be a long wait!!

steve25 03-16-2011 02:46 AM

Just a little reminder to everyonr about the rules for having your bird count in the contest:

Team members must post a picture of their turkey to prove authenticity of the kill. A brief story along with statistics is welcomed. Do add a ruler to each spur and beard in the pictures taken. If you don't know how to post pictures, ask your Team captain, or a member of your team that knows how to post pictures to help you out.
Be sure to say what specie, Rio, Eastern, etc. when, where, and what weapon you used for the kill when you post a picture.

If anyone needs help posting a pic you can contact me and either help you through the process or you can email me the pics and I will post them for you.

silent arrow 03-16-2011 04:42 PM

hott damn nauticstar! thats right son! damn good job cant wait to see your pics and here your story! longbeard mafia we got this!

Nauticstar 03-18-2011 04:24 AM

Alright guys I'll make it short. It was a most glorious morning! Got to my area and set up in the dark. My favorite hardwood ridge. Owls, crows, woodpeckers going crazy as the morning goes along, but no gobbles. Pretty typical for opening week of Bama. But, I know what I have on this place and was patient. About 7 a.m. I had just run a very soft series of clucks and yelps when I thought I heard drumming. If anyone knows me they say "You always think you hear drumming", which is kinda true. Anyway about 2 minutes later I heard it again this time much louder. Now I know he is somewhere close looking for me and I am now in stealth mode. Finally I catch movement and there he is 40 yards directly to my right and gun in my lap pointing left. He goes behind a tree and I swing the gun up onto my left shoulder. I shoot right handed, but as you all will agree if you have done this long enough you learn to shoot your opposite shoulder from time to time. Earlier that morning I took the rubber band off my box call and put it over the barrel of my gun(why I have no idea). So I'm looking down the barrel and can't see my bead because of the rubber band. He is now only 30 yards and in full strut looking for "that hen.". I then start sliding my right hand down the forearm of my gun to pull the rubber band down and he sees something he doesn't like. He gets nervous, I get nervous and I go ahead and shoot. I guess I hit him in the upper body so he takes off and I pop another shot off as he runs away and miss. I jump up and he goes down into a ravine and I get to the edge just as he comes up the other side. One last shot as he is going away and I drop him with a shot to the back of the head. It's opening morning of my season and this could have been a tragedy! If there is any kind of honor system in the contest I think I'm off to a pretty good start! Ha! Ha! I will post pics next! Good luck everyone!

Nauticstar 03-18-2011 04:30 AM

Here is a picture with my opening day bird at my camp-I call it the Thomasville Venetian!

Here is a picture of my iPhone with the date in the upper right hand corner March 15 to validate the kill. I didn't know how else to do it.

The weight of 16 1/2 lbs.

Spur length of 3/4"

Beard length of 10 1/4 inches. It was really hard to take this picture an hold the beard in place. But I promise it was that length.

Really liked this picture of my truck in the background.

Bonus kill. Timber rattler that was stretched out in the road on the way back. I hate those things.

steve25 03-18-2011 08:24 AM

Nice job!!!

Could you post the details of your hunt that morning?

I did just above my pictures in a separate post.

steve25 03-18-2011 11:41 AM

Didn't see your post, sorry I was just to busy slobbering all over my screen looking at the pics and knowing I have a while before I can hit the woods!!!

Like some of my hunts for both deer and turkey, what can go wrong will.

But the bottom line is you closed the deal on a nice bird and that is all that matters!!!

Congrads!!!!!
