Anyone been out lately? I went the other morning for sika deer. They are a small Asian deer that has become established in a few counties here in MD. There are a few subspecies, and we have one of the smallest, both in terms of body and antler size. They like to hang out in the marsh and are fairly nocturnal. They are actually more closely related to an elk than a deer, so they bugle, and this is the time of year they mate. I only got a glimpse of one, but had them walking around in the marsh and bugling around me all morning. The darn little things just would come out of the phragmities. Might be able to sneak out tomorrow morning before my daughters soccer game, but it is going to be tight. Good luck this week end.

I shot a nice 10 point this evening and spent two hours looking for him and could not find him. Going back in the morning to look some more. I hope I can find him before the coyotes do.

I looked again this morning for a couple hours with no luck. Found decent blood last night where he stopped, puddles of blood on both sides. He is going through some tall grass and the last blood I found this morning was down to spots the size of a pin head then I completely lost the trail. I'm getting ready to go back out and hopefully walk up on him.

I checked the trail camera this evening and found a picture of the buck I shot Sunday evening. You can see the entrance wound high on his shoulder. I'm glad he is still alive, now I'll have to try to kill him again.
