John Deer (Chris) checking in from Oklahoma. Ready to get the season started. I lost my lease after last season (they wanted to increase the $ and I couldn't afford it) but I just secured a new lease and it looks like a dandy. Hopefully I'll be able to connect on a good one this year. Good luck to the rest of you.

crenth 08-20-2010 04:52 AM

Well guys I'm going to check my camera at our new property tomorrow so I'll keep you posted whether or not we find any bucks on the camera.

dmounts 08-20-2010 09:01 AM

Our guys are starting to check in. I'm sure more will stop by as the season approaches. I suggest we start thinking about who's going to be the captain, and what we plan to call ourselves. Any volunteers? I'd vote for peakrut if he's interested. Looks like he's been a pretty active member for quite a while.

Some ideas for possible team names: Team 8 Seconds to Live, Team Silent Strike, Team Pneumothorax (Hole in Lung disease). More to come.

Don

peakrut 08-20-2010 04:46 PM

Don I like that seconds to live so that gets my vote.
Iv'e actually been a member since 1998 but the great server crash of 03 I believe it
was reset our join date.

4evrhtn 08-21-2010 06:46 PM

Zack from Pa here. Will be hunting a lease in Ohio and Private Land in Pa. Just got back today from our lease in Ohio-63 Acres for my dad and myself near Caldwell, OH.
Here is a buck I am interested in back here in Pa.

Good luck everyone! Glad to see we have a fair amount of Midwest hunters on our team! Pneumothorax is pretty cool, the name don't matter to me the only thing I want us to be called is the 2010-2011 Bowhunting Contest Champs.
And one more thing, I plan on using the bow to take my buck even if it takes me till January, no gun for me.

peakrut 08-21-2010 10:20 PM

Welcome to the team Zack and I sure hope you get a chance at him.

Bible_Man 08-22-2010 09:41 AM

Checking in! Looking forward to the season with the rest of you. I will be hunting in southern TN.

Bible_Man 08-22-2010 09:45 AM

I also think Team Pneumothorax sounds pretty cool...everyone would have to ask what it means. Well, it is simply the disease that we inflict upon those poor, unfortunate bucks coming to within range of our arrows! Doesn't really matter to me though. Whatever is fine with me.

mbmrang 08-22-2010 10:08 AM

Looks like I have filled the alternate #2 spot on this team. Looks like a very promising team. I will be hunting mid-missouri for the most part. May get a chance or two to hung a little in the northern area of missouri. Kinda depends on how the first half of season goes. This is my second year bowhunting. I wasn't able to get an arrow into a deer last year, but that hasn't detered me yet.

Good luck all and maybe I will get a pic or two posted from my cameras. I have a real symmetrical 8 and a very wide 9 who like to spend time in front of my camera.

Only 23 days till seson opener!

Wasting time

So the other day I take my Stealth Cam out and I forget the batteries. Today I head out to put those in and I forgot to put in the SD Card. Learn from me and make a check list thats my tip of the day lol

Hey Team also I have a few domain names I currently own and thought that all the deer we kill the pictures can be all in one place for our viewing pleasure. So if its ok when you post up your deer here in our team thread I will copy it and post it up on www.bow-deer.com Once we have a team name I will add that as the header if that is also ok.

We went out to our 40 acre timber patch and worked our food plots over and planted them. We also check the camera. Had a small 7 or 8 pointer and some does. No bucks worth shooting. We haven't set up a camera at our 80 acre patch yet this year. We have a 1 acre food plot there and usually have a decent amount of bucks walking around in the area, maybe 1 or 2 noteable bucks. We'll see soon enough!!!

4evrhtn 08-23-2010 02:56 PM

Well crenth, you have one thing in your favor... You are in Illinois! I am sure you have some shooters running around there somewhere.

Peak Rut, I am fine with any pics I post this year being uploaded to that website. Sounds good!

I spent yesterday mowing my clover plot (1/4 acre) and planting forage oats (1/2 acre) over the soybeans that been almost totally eaten already. I also have one acre of corn planted that is looking really good. The rest of the field (4 acres) has been left uncut to provide a place for rabbits, birds and the deer to feed and take cover in.
I pulled oneof my cams out of the swamp where there is very little going on and also pulled my ladder stand from last years spot. Not sure where I am going to put it this year, I also have a summit climber, 2 gorilla lock ons, 2 cheap lock ons where theft is more likely and a ground blind. Doing alot of scouting but not finding much besides where I have my plots.

Just curious to know more about the rest of my teammates... About me... I am 32, been hunting since I was 12, have taken a buck every year that I've hunted except last year. I am looking for a mature buck no smaller than mid 120's. I hunt private land mostly and spend alot of $ every year trying to improve the quality of the deer on my properties. I hunt in Ohio and Pa. The ohio season starts Sept.25th and the Pa season the weekend after. I make my own hours at work so I get to hunt alot typically 40 or more hours a week. I use my bow even during the rifle season. I am committed to doing everything possible in order to get us some points on the board. How about you guys?

4evrhtn 08-23-2010 02:59 PM

Put my vote in for Team Pneumothorax.
I also nominate Peak Rut for team captain if he doesn't mind.

I'm cool with uploading our pics too.

My names Don. I'm 31 and I live in southwestern PA. I'll be hunting PA in numerous areas within 45 minutes of my home, and also hunting some land near Coshocton Ohio. Hopefully get a shot at another wall hanger this year. This is my fourth year in the contest. Arrowed a buck 2 out of 3 of those years. Blew my best shot last year when I didn't notice one of my blades on my Rage BH was open when I shot, resulting in a planed arrow. Missed my shot at a 130+...my guess is around 140 or so.

Can't wait for the season to get started. Who knows...may end seeing some of the same deer as 4evrhtn! I'm stoked our whole team has already checked in. This could be my first year with a whole team. Good luck all...and get those arrows flying asap to get the cobwebs off.

My name is Jeremy, and I am a youth minister in Lawrence County Tennessee. It borders the county in Alabama that I grew up in. I will have hunting opportunities in both of those counties, as well as a few other counties in Tennessee. I am 26 and have been hunting small game since I was a wee tot, and deer for the past 8 years. This will only be my second year bowhunting. I was unable to arrow a buck last year, but did take a doe with my bow. I have been married to my wife, Katie, for 3 years. My job keeps me extremely busy, especially in the summer months, but it is very flexible which allows for a great deal of time in the woods. I hunt most of the days, other than Sundays throughout the season. I love the outdoors, my friends and my family. I am passionate about God. The place I feel closest to Him is in a treestand...therefore I spend as much time as I can in it!

crenth 08-24-2010 04:23 AM

I'm Clayton from Southern Illinois. I'm 25 and I've been bowhunting since I was 14. My dad and I hunt an 80 acre patch that my aunt owns and after last season we bought a 40 acre patch. Both have promise of good opportunities. I arrowed my first bow buck in January 2009. 13 pointer on public land in the last 45 minutes of the season. It's always just my dad and I that hunt these 2 properties so there is minimal pressure. I got married October 2009 and my wife is a deer hunter also. She's going to be trying bow hunting in the near future also.

Good morning all, I am Mike from mid-missouri. 32 yrs young and hunting since around 10. This is only my 2nd yr with my bow. I have a couple of different properties that I mainly hunt. One 575 and the neighboring 312 acres. One other person bowhunts there but only a few times a month. We do have several that come out for the rifle season. I also have 50 acres at my house but normally don't hunt there. Last year for me was a success even though I didn't get an arrow into a deer. One real nice 8 that I used the wrong site pin and one doe that I misjudged the distance on pretty bad. Those were the only 2 I tried on.

Good luck all.
Only 21 days left!

No worries. I didn't kill my first deer with a bow until my 7th or 8th season of bowhunting. And the year before I missed 9 deer. Twice I missed 2 in one hunt. I've put in more than enough time in the stand for the big bucks I've killed. I've now got 3 wallhangers, 1 with a bow, the other 2 with a shotgun. The buck in my avatar I killed when I was 19 with a shotgun. Total score was 172"+

Bible_Man 08-24-2010 08:12 PM

I missed my only shot at a buck last year with a bow too...really nice 8 that I will hunt again this year. He was at 38 yards and not going to get any closer...pretty sure he laid down on the ground when I shot. Went right over his back. Got a few really nice bucks on 3 of the properties I will be hunting. There are a total of 8 bucks on these properties combined that range between 120"-150". One other property has only one good buck that I know of on it...40 acres in city limits (therefore bow only). He is at least 160"...been frustrating the past hunter of the property for 4 years. I lucked up and got to get the right to hunt the property last year after his health went south and he gave up hunting...that makes 5 years, with my first included that he has been evading us. Absolute monster mainframe 8 with a bunch of junk. Saw him once last year at about 65 yards for about 20 seconds and after he left I felt the need to go home and change my drawers. I am very blessed to have some good properties to hunt. Some I can hunt more than others. Also, there are several good deer on the public land I hunt, but the are extremely skittish. This particular WMA seems to be hunted more heavily than any other I have hunted before. It is exciting to have the whole team checked in...hopefully we can have a little luck and bag some bone this year!

dmounts 08-25-2010 08:27 AM

Had I not missed that 130-140" Buck last year, our Team Hooters Shooters would have been the reigning champs. Here where I hunt in PA there are antler restrictions. A buck must have at least 4 points on one side to be a legal buck. Some guys on our team were getting on me to shoot any buck just to get some points for our team, but they didn't realize I couldn't legally do it. There are quite a number of good bucks in the areas I hunt. A real good buck for this area is between 110"-145"...not too many get over the 145" mark without someone shooting them in rifle season. I know for a fact the buck I missed during archery season last year made it through until this year because my buddy found the sheds last March. He keeps them in his truck and rubs them in my face every time I see him...a constant reminder of my mistake. But one things for sure...that buck is still in the area and I'll have another chance. I just have to beat my buddy to him...lol.

peakrut....Do you accept the duties asked of you to run this team (looks like Pneumothorax) responsibly, professionally, ethically, unselfishly, and at all hours of the day (including nights, weekends, holidays, birthdays, etc) to the best of your sportsman-like ability so swear you God?

If you say no we'll have to shoot ya!:fighting0007:

crenth 08-25-2010 09:16 AM

Yeah I will not be shooting a small buck just for the sake of winning this online contest of people that I never see. Ha ha

peakrut 08-25-2010 12:44 PM

Well everyone its looking like its gonna be a good year for me this year. I have been putting out my cameras all summer and the count as of now is somewhere between 18 and 21 different bucks, 5 of which are good shooters...at least in my book(120'-130"). As they have grown ive lost track of some of them. but at one point I know i had 16 different bucks on 3 cameras on my farm at one time. the only bad thing about this year is Im coaching a HS football team and my hunting time til late Oct. will be limited.

4evrhtn 08-25-2010 07:36 PM

After reading about the opportunities alot of you guys have and what you are seeing I think we will be pretty high in the rankings for this contest. Good to get to know more about all of you, Looking forward to seeing some pics of each of you with some good deer. Good Luck everyone! Exactly 1 month to go for me until I will be in a stand in Ohio.
