I thought my buck hunting was over this year. I have another chance to take a buck again. Well, not really me, but my daughter really wants to shoot a buck after she seen my son and I get ours this year. She is not a newbie but she hasn't had that much time in the field. She always shoots with us so I know she can shoot really well. I told her she has definitely picked the best time to want to shoot a buck. We will be going out to our magical spot Saturday morning. She also said she isn't shooting a buck unless it tops Dad and brother. She is very disciplined so I know she can hold out. However, if buck fever kicks in on a 1 1/2 year old I told her it would be ok to shoot it seeing it would be her first buck. She said no way!!!!! I'm shooting the big boy this year. She said she is taking the buck we call Brutus down. I really hope she gets him. I believe Saturday through Monday will be 3 of the best days of the year so her chances should be pretty good. I'm really looking forward to it. I think even more so than my own hunts. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

Congrads ManofTheFall, nice looking buck.
I'm back from taking the boy scouts out bow hunting and we had a great time. One of the boys scored on a spiker and everyone got a chance to participate in the "after shot" experiences of gutting, dragging in the dark, registering, skinning, quartering, and deboning. They took lots of pictures because this is the first deer harvested in 3 years. I passed on several smaller bucks and got quite a bit of ribbing for letting the 6 pointer walk. It was so enjoyable watching him at 20 yards on all sides of my stand. After the scouts headed home, I had an evening hunt to myself and watched a nice 10 pointer for 15 minutes checking his scrape line and then chasing off a scrawny 6 that was with a doe in front of my stand. When the 10 spied the 6 with a doe, he trotted in and the 6 headed for the high hills with the doe in toe. The 10 stopped where they were feeding about 60 yards from my set up but wouldn't close the distance. Heading back up this weekend for a week of bow hunting so hoping to move us up the leader board. Good luck to all and enjoy the best two weeks of the season. |
We will be heading back out in the morning. Should be a great one. We are expecting snow flurries overnight into the morning hours with lows in the mid to upper 20's. I will let you all know how it goes. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
Surprisingly we only seen one little buck this morning. My daughter said no way!!!!! I'm waiting on the big one. Tonight we will be going to our high school's football playoff game. Tomorrow morning we will be back at it. I'm hoping with the time change those big boys that were moving just before light will move at the same time they have been moving and we can nail one. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

This morning's hunt was not successful but we did have an encounter with Brutus. About five minutes til 8 I heard something coming up the hill from the right. I looked over and saw a doe coming. I told my daughter just in case get ready. Then I seen him. As soon as I seen him I knew it was Brutus. This was the first time I seen him in person and he is one big bodied deer and I'm guessing his rack would break 140". The doe came straight up the hill between 40 and 50 yards to our right. I have seen many deer take this path before. On many occasions they would turn left and cut 15-20 yards in front of our stand. Unfortunately this morning the doe went straight up the hill with brutus following about 50 yards behind her. Then a smaller buck was taking that same route as well. We hung out there in the stand hoping they would maybe come back and pass by but it never happened. Maybe tomorrow morning will be her day. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

Well...I shot one. I have a lot of white hair and very little blood at the place he was shot, but the arrow shows that is was a pass thru. I tracked small drops of blood for about 50 yds and decided to back out and track in the am. On the way out, 100 yds, I decided to check a couple trails that crossed a nearby creek and found a good looking blood trail. The question is how high the arrow entered.. Wish me luck, sleep won't come easy tonight.
Just sittin here waiting for light. I bet I only slept 3 hrs last night, and had dreams about trailing while I did sleep. Sun will be up in 30 min. Prob a 125" deer, I hate this feeling.
Good luck finding him. We will be waiting on the pics. Post em up as soon as you get him.
It was more of the same this morning. Around 7:30 we seen a very large buck about 80 to 100 yards away off in the distance chasing 2 does. Right about 8 oclock we had two does running full speed about 50 yards behind us but nothing was in tow. Then about 20 minutes after 8 I heard something off to my right again coming up the hill. It wasn't Brutus but it was a shooter. He closed to within about 40 yards but she did not have a shot. That was all the action we had this morning. Tomorrow morning we will be going back out to the apple orchard.
Couldn't find him. I've never seen a deer bleed so much and not die. I can only imagine that I shot low, makes me sick. That will probably be the end of my archery season, good luck to the rest of you.
Don't give up on your season. It has probably happened to all of us at least once. If you give up and don't go out there is no chance at all. Give yourself a chance at redemption.
He's dead. Get a buddy or three and get out and grid search if you have to. The time spent will be well worth it when you come up on your trophy! Good luck! Hope I rejuvenated your spirit and you can get out and find him!
Once again more of the same this morning. We've been seeing them, just not getting any shots on them. We had two small bucks come in fairly early. Then, around 8, Out in front of us I seen 2 does coming up the hill. About a minute later a pretty nice buck was following behind them. If those does would have kept on coming up I'd probably be showing you some pictures of my daughter's buck. But, unfortunately that did not happen. We will be going out this evening and tomorrow evening. We have some stands pretty close to each other and she said she wants to split up now. I said no problem. If she would have been in the one stand the other day she would have had a shot at Brutus. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

This evening was almost a bust. We went to our one spot and 2 other people were doing stuff to their stands. One of them is strictly a gun hunter and he said he would be there for an hour or so yet. So, we went to our other spot. We were completely settled in the stand at 4:17. It was a little late but I figured as long as we got in there quietly we would be ok. By 4:25 we had a 6 point walk out past us. My daughter said no and let him pass. Then about 4:45 I heard some movement through some brush and trees about 50 yards out in front of us and slightly to our right. I finally seen a white patch. I bleated on the can and the deer immediately looked my way and stared. He probably did not move for about 15 minutes. He finally started walking my way and I recognized him immediately. It was my long lost buddy Twin Towers. I could not believe my eyes. I thought he looked big in those pics I have of him. He was humongous. I think he easily grosses over 200". He started walking towards us. There is a patch of trees between us and him. He is about 30 yards away now but there is no way she can get a shot at him. It looked like he stopped back behind those trees and was rubbing and making a scrape. He stayed back there for another 20 minutes then left. I tried everything. I grunted, snort wheezed, to no avail. I just wonder if I had taken out the doe decoy if it would have made a difference. Oh well, we will be back at it in the morning. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
I'm sure he's dead as well BGHUNTER.. But I'm with Shawn it's has all happened to us at least once I'm sure.. But if you give up on the season there is no shot at redeeming your season.. I understand if you can't/don't want to get back out there, but I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide..
This morning wasn't as good as it's been the last couple of days. I saw a 2 year old 6 point and my daughter saw a doe. She said she heard other other deer and even heard a buck grunting behind her stand but she only seen the one doe. We are going to try and go out every morning and evening until Satutday evening. Our high school team won it's first playoff so we will be going to the second playoff game which is Saturday night. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
It was a pretty slow evening. We only seen one 2 year old buck that my daughter didn't want to shoot. Towards dark we heard a few moving but we never seen them. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be better. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

Helo fellow hunters,...good grief,...its been a very long endless summer.
I have hunted nearly 50 days (probably more) ,..having lost track weeks ago. I have seen alot of nice bucks, had several close encounters, spent many hours working with clients along with single-handedly wiring a 9k sq ft house. Thus my internet hiatus...for that, i apologize. My wife killed an awesome 10 pointer a week ago today, Here is some of her story. As many of you know Brian got me into archery this past year and I’ve been having a lot of fun shooting my bow and even went turkey hunting this past spring. I didn’t get a turkey but had so much fun! Well this Oct. 1st was the beginning of my first deer season with a bow. I’ve put in a lot of hours and have enjoyed every minute, had so many close encounters with wildlife it’s just been awesome. Well, Nov. 4th I headed out to a spot we’ve been seeing a nice 8 pointer but when I got there it was too windy for this wimp to get up in a tree stand. Brian had told me before about a spot in the timber that I should try sitting so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and found the fallen tree he suggested I sit in front of and took a look around and thought I’ll never be able to do this he’s crazy! I decided to stay put as he suggested. I’m sitting on the ground with my legs crossed ‘Indian style’ which if you’ve ever shot a bow you’ll know isn’t the easiest position for shooting. LOL! I was leaned back against the log waiting for magic hour just before sunset which is when the deer usually start moving, but they were moving early tonight and I had seen one buck come through the timber out of range. After sitting about an hour I look to my right and see an 8 pointer standing there staring right at me so I froze and watched as a little 6 joined him. The two of them were very interested in me and kept coming in closer trying to smell me and see what I was. I was starting to think I would have to defend myself! They were standing a mere 10 feet away and directly downwind! It was the most amazing experience. I was texting Brian to tell him all about it when I heard something to my left and turned to see my buck standing less than 20 yards from me. I literally dropped my phone on the ground and picked up my bow. He started raking a tree so I pulled my bow up and he stopped and looked right at me. I froze and he didn’t seem to know I was there, he started walking in my general direction then he stopped at another tree and lowered his head to rub on it. When he lowered his head I drew my bow and followed him as he walked closer. He was less than 10 yards when I took the shot. I was shaking so bad after I shot that I kept sending Brian blank text messages. LOL! What an incredible experience, I’m hooked for life with this whole archery thing! Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone, I hope all is well with you and yours. LuAnn ![]() Her first bow buck scored 148 even, I am so proud of her, she certainly is a quick learner! |
Very awesome buck and great story!!!!! Maybe we can count her buck for yours LOL.
This morning I seen 1 small buck. My daughter seen that same small buck. She also seen 8 doe from her stand that I did not see. We will be back at it tonight. Hopefully our luck will change a little. We have been seeing deer, just no shots for her yet. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

This evenings hunt my daughter seen three does from her stand and I didn't see any at all. As long as we keep going out I will keep the reports up. I wish we would have went to this stand location Tuesday morning. Look what came by about 9am. She would have had about a 22 yard shot at this boy if she chose to take him. Then there a couple night shots of some other bucks. One of them is Brutus and the other buck I'm not sure of.
We didn't get to go out this morning. This afternoon is probably iffy at best. I just don't know if we will have the time to go. Saturday morning is a maybe. saturday night is out because of the football game. At this point Sunday morning and evening both look pretty good. I will keep you updated when we go out. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
Well, we didn't get to go out this evening either. Hopefully tomorrow morning we will be out in the woods again. If we don't get out in the morning it won't be until Sunday until we can get out there. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
Well, did not get out again today. We will definitely be going out tomorrow. I should say we will definitely be going out tomorrow unless it is raining too hard. I will keep you all up dated. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

Congrats to your wife zmax!! Great story as well, it's always good to have another bow addicted on our side..
As for me, last weekend was slow.. I saw a lot of deer they were chasing the does hard, but they were all out of range, I'm thinking I need to move my primary stand next year.. I'm hunting to much on memories and not enough on my knowledge of the land, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done that.. This morning went slow as well only having a yearling doe within range.. Would have been great eating and kind of wishing I would have taken it, considering I'm only able to be a weekend warrior right now with the workload and job duties I've taken on this year, but I'm hoping that I go back out this evening and whack the big boy I've been waiting for.. Next Saturday is the last bow only hunting for a while so I hope I can get some bone on the ground before then.. But I'll only rifle hunt long enough to get some meat in the freeze then back to bow hunting for the rest of the year.. Good luck to all and safe hunting!! |
Unfortunately no morning hunt today. The rain was coming down pretty good here. the afternoon is suppose to clear up a little ao it looks like there will be a pretty good chance we will be going out. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
This weekend has just been a wash as far as hunting goes. Everytime I thought I would be going out, something always came up. We did not get out this evening either. As of right now nothing is going on for Monday. Chances are looking good we will be going out Monday morning. As long as the weather cooperates this week, we are going to try and get out every morning and evening through Thursday. Friday night I will have to go back to work. By the way my high school team won again so we will be playing in the regional finals this Saturday. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
We seen 5 this morning, nothing we wanted to shoot. May or may not get out this afternoon, not sure yet. Rain is on the way tomorrow. Hopefully the morning will be good. Good luck and happy hunting to all.

We only got out yesterday morning. We seen two little bucks which she chose to let walk. We are going to try and go out this evening, tomorrow morning and evening, and Friday evening. I have to go back to work Friday night so that is why we aren't going out Friday morning. Happy hunting and good luck to all.
pjarrows, you can be an honorary team member. Hope your hunting is going good. I've not scored yet, waiting for the big one. I've had a couple of basket 6's in range along with some does but can't seem to coax in the shooters.
Switching to gun season for the next week and then back to the bow. |
Well guys, for me it's back to work tonight. My daughter and I may get in one more sit this evening before I go back. This weekend is youth gun season here in Ohio so we won't be going out on the weekend. I do have Tuesday and Wednesday nights off this coming week. I will also be off next weekend. We should be able to get a few hunts in those few days. The Monday after Thanksgiving starts gun season for 7 days so we won't be going out there at all either. If we go out tonight I will update you on the hunt. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
I did manage to take out a doe Friday evening. I snuck one in before I had to go back to work. Now I just need to help my daughter nail a buck. I'm sure in the late season I will get an itch and want to get back out there myself. I will probably pick up at least one more doe tag. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
It looks like my daughter and I will be back at it Tuesday evening. We will also be out Wednesday morning and evening. Then we will try to hit it Friday evening. The weekend looks good for a Saturday evening hunt, Sunday morning and evening hunts as well. Then it will be the start of gun season which lasts for one week. I will be sitting at home and working in gun season. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
Well this week and next week are Rifle Season for Buck and then in 3 weeks it is Rifle Doe Season.. So I'm going to set the bow down this week and hunt with a few family members that are in for the holidays, but I'll be back at it in a week or so with the bow..
It was a slow night in the stand last night. We only seen one deer as we were getting down out of the stand. We couldn't tell what it was. We may get out Friday and Saturday evenings. Then we should be able to hunt Sunday morning and evening.
Well rifle season went off without a bang, literally.. I saw some spikes and a lot of does, but I let them walk.. This week coming up is Doe season with a rifle, I'm not sure if I'm gonna take the rifle out to get some meat or the bow to get the bone of the ground.. Either way I'm still out there hunting hard, hoping to get another one on the board for us.. How's everyone else doing? Good luck to all..
Between my son and I we have 5 deer down. We both have taken out a buck and he has 1 doe and I have a doe and a button buck. Now that gun season is over my daughter and I might get back at it and try and get her a buck. I may buy one more doe tag also so I have another excuse to get the bow out in the late season and see what I can all see. Good luck and happy hunting to all. There is still time to put one on the board. Get out there and get one!!!!!
My daughter and I will be back at it this weekend and this coming week before the second gun season opens next weekend. Is anyone else out there still hunting? If so, good luck and happy hunting to all.
