I am not really worried because I think I know what is happening. They were always hanging in a bean field along a semi busy road. Every time I would glass these bucks nearly every single vehicle would pretty much stop and look at these deer. I could tell they were very edgy as these vehicles would stop and look. I figure they are now just lagging back a bit and not coming out until dark or later. What do you all think? I have my stand set on a funnel area that is the only cover anywhere for these deer to walk through to get to the beans. My stand is at least 100 yards back from the bean field. So even if they are coming out a little later I think my stand placement is still pretty good. I will be checking the trail cam probably this coming Tuesday. So, hopefully it will tell the tale.

Two years in a row I would see a monster 10 point all through the summer. Right around early August every year he would disapear and never be spotted again. No sight of him on stand, on trail cameras, fellow hunters spotting him, etc. The first year I was a bit flabbergasted, and also a bit nauive. It ended up being that the deer was going from his summer range to his fall range. I would have him on camera all summer and had him staked out just fine. Come later in the fall and I had no idea where he went.

I ended up finding out one day a few days before Halloween. Many of you may even recall the post about it from the main bowhunting forum. He was hit and killed by a car. It was about a mile or so away from where his summer range was. He ended up scoring 151"

Hell of a deer and unfortunately he went by way of vehicle. What a bummer.

Nonetheless, I would bet you watched those deer during their summer range. They change routines as the fall approaches. I would get those cameras out and figure out where he is now. If he has changed his range and you re-find his fall range--you are set.

Watched 2 shooters and a small buck feeding on soybeans this evening,..along with 7 Does. I was sitting back about 3/8 mile with my 25 to 60 variable window mounted spotting scope.

25 days till season opens

I hunt two other pieces of private property about one mile away in each direction. So I hunt 3 private tracts all about one mile apart. So, if this is the case, summer range/ fall range, maybe he will end up on one of the 3 properties I will be hunting. Hopefully this is the case.

Figured I'd get us back to the top, for one.. And I'm thinking I should be out sometime tomorrow to get the pictures off my trail cameras, so hopefully I'll have some new pics for you guys..

Also it's looking to me that the velvet is starting to harden on some of the bucks up here, how the antler development coming around your neck of the woods??

Seen a great seven point last night. He is around 16" wide and very tall. I hope that when he strips his velvet he will change his routine. He is about a 1/2 mile from the property that I hunt. I seen two other bucks but they were small basket racked bucks. The best thing that I seen last night is that one of the bucks had some of his velvet off. My spotting scope confirmed it for me. I have been watching these ares from a distance since the fields by the property I hunt are full of corn. The farmer told me that the weather is to be good next week so he is planning to start chopping it. That will help me get a better look at the deer on this property. I will not go in the woods. My stands are set, I just don't want the derr to change from their normal activity. I will get in there when the season comes in.

Have seen my first buck out of velvet,..just a small 6, but he's the first,...practicing each evening,....tightening up my groups. hard to believe it been a nearly a year but im pretty much ready to go.

oh, i watched 2 Does do the stand up boxing match for about 30 seconds,..it was really cool!

Seems like everyone else had an off weekend on here as well, all be it busy or lazy.. Mine was the latter of the two.. Checked the trail cameras, nothing much to write home about on them.. The big guy wasn't there this week, and only had two of the four 8-pointers on camera.. Good activity, but I knew the pics would be low this time; Due to the fact we moved some tree stands and I relocated one of my cameras from over a mineral lick to looking across some freshly cleared land.. Hopefully I'll have some good pics for you guys next week.. Can't wait to see what Shawn has on camera today..
