My vote is Ten Nimrods.

I used a Rage 3 blade. That's actually just blood. The last week of bow season in Southern Illinois was down in the single digits for highs so when I shot him and he ran and died, the blood kind of foamed up and then froze like a snow cone.

dmen 08-25-2009 02:11 PM

x factor is fine

crenth 08-25-2009 06:42 PM

X Factor is fine with me if everyone else likes it

HuntingEd 08-26-2009 04:29 AM

I'll vote for X- Factor as well... looks like 5 for X-factor, I think we can call it.

I'll change the thread title.

WELCOME TO TEAM X-FACTOR!

WV Hunter 08-26-2009 05:11 AM

Sounds good...I like it. :happy0001:

fshafly2 08-26-2009 10:13 AM

10-4 on the X-Factor. I just got back from 3 days of hiking w/the wife in WVA around the Seneca Creek area - so doing some catching up. Ed - you have an invite to come down and hunt, we can work out details later.

Hey guys went and shot Tecmo Hunt today what a blast. Have any of you ever shot it before? If you are not sure what it is it is where you shoot at a screen that has real animals prejected on the screen. It was so much fun and you get alot of diffrent shot angles and the animals move as well.

I need to get out and finish setting up stands and trim up shooting lanes. I can't wait till October.

fshafly2 08-26-2009 02:03 PM

I used to shoot at a shop that had the (Dart?) system - screen and auto scoring - it was a hoot! Unfortunately, the guy went out of business. (Some of the 3D ranges at local archery clubs are also suffering from poor participation).

X-factor is fine with me. I've been super busy lately so I haven't been around much. I'm trying to get an addition built on my house so that I can get out and hunt more this season, trying to keep the wife happy:)

MATHEWS PA BOWHUNTER 08-26-2009 06:21 PM

LOL, no help here....I have no skills!

fsh, I shot a Dart system years ago - it was cool. In fact, I credit that to a major change in my shooting. At the time (20yrs ago) I shot with one eye closed....and when I went to shoot, I couldn't see through my small peep indoors shooting with one eye closed. I had no choice but to force myself to shoot both eyes open to be able to shoot at that system. Amazingly, in pretty short order I was hitting well. Ever since that day I've shot two eyes open, and its been MUCH better all around.

hey fsh...didn't you kill a couple nice bucks last year? I thought I remembered you did.

fshafly2 08-27-2009 02:19 AM

I too lack the skills for creating an avatar, but there are usually a few talented folks offering their services.

I've been lucky the past few years, WVA - here are the bucks I've entered in previous HNI contests (plus one ineligible):

2006, 10ptr:

2007, 10ptr:

2007, 9ptr (#2 buck, so ineligible for the contest):

WV Hunter 08-27-2009 04:23 AM

Yeah...I thought I remembered you getting a couple nice ones. (btw...killing 1 deer like that could be luck, do it consistently....not much luck going on!) Nice job fsh !!!

I see you are from Nanjemoy...I used to fish the creek alot when I was younger and had my bassboat. Nice area, and I caught some nice bass down there too!

Avatar Idea.....(picture of a hunter with bow in hand) + X = (some representation of a big buck)

turkish621 08-28-2009 02:44 AM

I was thinking something with like a X with nice antlers coming out of it. No skills to design though.

HuntingEd 08-29-2009 04:32 AM

well I checked my cam yesterday but my battery died... only 18 pic of does... I'll replace them today and wait..

but a bigger bummer is that I didnt win mega millions :(

dmen 08-29-2009 04:39 AM

I haven't had one buck on my trail camera yet this year, nothing but does and fawns. They are out their though so I am not to worried. Not to mention I am sure their will be a couple of bucks in the area when I go to Illinois in Nov.AS for the avatar I have no skills.

fshafly2 08-29-2009 06:57 AM

I shot a silver arrow at a friend in the graphics business, and he provided this:
Just copy guys. I am going to use it unless someone comes up with something else...

Canuck_2 08-29-2009 10:53 PM

Hey team X; I see an old teammate of mine is going to try and keep you all out of the cellar this year. Excellent.:s1: Andy, I hope you get one twice as big this year as last year.:s2: Cheers, Canuck2 - team 21.

hoosierhunter43 08-30-2009 03:48 AM

Hey guys I need help with getting the picture set. I am not sure how to do it. Thanks for the help in advance.

William

hoosierhunter43 08-30-2009 04:01 AM

Hey guys looks like I figured it out.

I bought a new stand a few days ago and am going to get it put up this week. I also picked up a new place to hunt in the early season that should be real good. It is a small piece of ground but alot of activity. I can't wait for the season to start.

William

turkish621 08-30-2009 05:23 AM

fsh - tell your friend thanks. The avatar is awesome!

+1...Thanks!!

fshafly2 08-30-2009 09:22 AM

I'll pass on the kudos for the avatar. If any of you all ever need professional graphic art design for a business or web site, please pm me so I can refer you.

Here are what I believe are two bucks that survived from last year. One buck, who is a frequent passer-by of the trail cam, has a small knot in one beam and a notched ear - that separates him from his near-twin. I saw one of these guys(?) last month, and he is pretty nice this year. These bucks are nocturnal, and the stars would have to be lined up in your favor for just a chance look in shooting hours... still I try...

hoosierhunter43 08-30-2009 10:35 AM

fsh Those are some good looking prospects for this year I hope you get a crack at them.

I had at least 2 nice bucks that I saw last year make it through to this year one of them was a 130 inch 10 point and the other was a main frame 10 with other junk that will probably go over 160. That was last year so I hope they are bigger this year. I had the 130 inch at 25 yards last year but had already killed the 125 inch and I only get 1 buck a year so I have high hopes for this season.

William

WV Hunter 08-30-2009 04:33 PM

Hey fsh....kudos to your friend on the avatar! Looks great!

Nice couple of bucks there too...I hope one slips up for you this year! They are very similar, pretty cool.

Finally got a shooter on the cam fellas!!! :barmy:

What do you think he'll score??

WV Hunter 08-31-2009 06:21 PM

Dang Ed...! That thing is nice!

Hard to tell a score from that angle, but I'll say well into P&Y. How bout you just lay him down, then we'll know for sure!

fshafly2 08-31-2009 07:04 PM

Nice one Ed - how many points - 11?

-fsh

ILL BUCK 09-01-2009 12:45 AM

Nice avatar!!!

dmen 09-01-2009 02:01 AM

Ed, I think you have a great buck their, I look forward to you sitting behind him this fall.

HuntingEd 09-01-2009 03:53 AM

Not sure on the points, thats the best photo I have of him... I think he may be a main frame 10?!?, or like you said FSH 11 (5 x 6). His left side looks like it's got one more tine than the right, but it could just be the angle, I hope to get better photos soon... I'm so pumped now!

Unfortunately I moved my camera about 400 yrds before I saw this pic, I hope it helps me pin-point its travel route. But I think I went the wrong direction.. However this is on a farm that doesn't get much bowhunting pressure, but is gun hunted heavily. I hope to nail him before the early muzzle loader, i didnt expect much out of that farm this year cause we had a huge blue tounge/EHD kill 2 yrs ago (80% of herd), and the deer are just starting to make a comeback there, so its a nice bonus! Thankfully all the deer look healthy this year!

hoosierhunter43 09-01-2009 01:25 PM

Ed I am not good at judgeing but he in a nice one!!!! I would be pumped to. I wish I had some cameras to put out just don't have the money for them right now. I am getting more and more pumped about this season amd still have a month to go. Ed good luck on connecting with him this fall.

HuntingEd 09-03-2009 04:19 AM

What's everybody doing for labor day weekend?? I'll be on the water most of it, catchin crabs tomorrow and sat. Just finished my keg-o-rator last night so we'll be working on a keg while eatin crabs! I'm excited!

Should be getting to my cams on monday, I'll be sure to post anything exciting! Then it's just one week till opening day...

I'll confess, I've only shot my bow once in the last month! I hope to get shooting this weekend then 3-4 more times before the season...

fshafly2 09-03-2009 05:19 AM

Ed
It pangs me to think of crabs, we used to chicken-neck a lot. I ended up in the emergency room twice ~8 yrs ago because of "Old Bay" seasoning. First time I thought it was crabs, the second time I found out it was the seasoning when I ate fish. I can still eat crabs, but it's just not the same without "Old Bay", so I do without...

Saturday, I'll be teaching the MD Hunter Safety Class. We have 35 students, about 1/4 of them female - a trend that bodes well for the future of hunting.

We had a good dove hunt on my farm opening day and I'll be out there Monday afternoon gunning for another dinner, ummmmm. I've eaten just about every game meat from caribou to bear, and dove is at the top of the list .

Good luck with the crabbing :party0005:, and shake the cobwebs off that bow :action-smiley-099:.

HuntingEd 09-03-2009 05:42 AM

Thanks FSH, I'll be sure to do plenty of shooting. I've been shooting my same setup for 5 yrs now, and when I shot about 2 weeks ago I was getting 6" groups at 50yds, so I still feel plenty confident, considering I dont shoot much past 35 on game. I still need the practice!

If your still interested in getting together for a hunt one weekend let me know. I usually get every other friday off, so I could come down on a thurs eve. to hunt friday. I'd love to try out other parts of the state, and you'd be welcome in my neck of the woods.

MATHEWS PA BOWHUNTER 09-03-2009 06:17 AM

Love the avatar

MATHEWS PA BOWHUNTER 09-03-2009 06:29 AM

Thanks fsh for the avatar

hoosierhunter43 09-05-2009 02:23 AM

Ed good luck on the crabs sounds really good to me I love seafood. I have been shooting the boe quite a bit and the groups just get tighter which is good. I went out to the woods yesterday and put up a 22 foot ladder stand and have to go back and move another stand to a diffrent location but I am excited to say the least. I also have to get out in a diffrernt patch of woods to get everything ready there alot of work left to do and the time is going quick.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend.

William
