I am from Northern Virginia----I need alot of help with hunting turkey but I have a will and a bow! :) Spent the last 15 years hunting deer, and the last 3 with my bow only. Never really turkey hunted although I did stalk some last year and almost shot a nice gobbler, but missed at 25 yards. Give me the basics and I will be out in the woods all the time trying to make it happen!

Im Jake from Western KY. I've been lucky enough to fill my last 4 tags on mature birds with a bow. And we have a heck of a crop this year, looking forward to spring.

Should I use expandable broadheads or a wide fixed blade for turkey? Thanks. I was actually out scouting last week in deep and kicked up a few turkey and saw where they had scratched up the side of an oak flat right off a bunch of pine trees.

Im shooting rage 3 blades this spring, and taking my bow down to 60#. I like to have a set-up that leaves the arrow in the bird. Every now and then a bird will help turn a marginal shot into a fatal shot by smacking that arrow around with the broadhead inside him.

Should I back down my draw weight, so I can hold the bow on full draw for longer and to prevent a full penetration? I am currently around 65-70 #'s.

Hey guys! I am Ray, I live outside of State College, PA. Have yet to harvest a bird with my bow, but came close last spring. I am shooting rage 2 blades at 63#. Might try the gobbler guillotine if i feel like spending the money for them.

Im right at #60. Thats #10 less than what I hold for deer season. I can hold that all day, which is great for turkeys because they always seem to come in and make all sorts of quick motions that give you a short window of opportunity for a good shot.

Thanks..I am going to come down 10 lbs or so....I was out deer scouting today and found some good spots for turkey. I am excited to put my first turkey season into play!

Actually no i wasn't, i was coyote hunting. But every time i saw turkeys they were working through the corn fields picking up any grain they could find. If i were you i would try scouting along cornfields, around mid-day is when i was seeing them. If you still have snow like we do you can also walk the edges of food sources for the turkeys and that way you get a general idea of how many there are and where they are feeding so you can look them over.Good luck and happy scoutin'

"TOMINATORS"

I concur, tominators it is! Time to start getting amped up for turkey season. My life has slowed down here so I can start to finally get fully prepared. Been shooting my bow from ground level and am hitting good out to 20-25 yards consistently...from the kneeling position and even sitting with one knee up, back against the tree.

Groups are real tight at 20 yards right now! Thats all I can ask for as this is my first spring gobbler season. I hope to get one in range. Best of luck teammates!

Almost pse!!!!! Good work and get back at it. I will be out for my first spring gobbler hunt tomorrow morning.....if it is raining I heard that its good to head to the fields?????? True? I am just really excited to be out in the woods again, it is like a breath of fresh air to my soul. Hey pse.....what kind of call sequence do you think would work for a new turkey hunter...I have a box call I have been practicing with....thanks bud.

Well, the birds here have been henned up real bad the last few days. I've been making soft and short calling sequences and relying on my decoys to draw in curious birds. Try to set-up in an area that your dekes will be visible for a long distance and try some short cluck/putt sequences. Good luck guys.

Gave it a try this morning for 5 hours....boy I am worn out. I covered alot of ground. I spooked a gobbler out of his roost about 30 mins after sun-up....lessons learned today...I dont know how to call properly, I dont know how to set-up...but I did have a heck of a good time!

Had one gobble at me this morning...was really cool, albeit he was 200 yards away on the other side of a lake. :) I don't have alot of turkey around where I hunt so I have to put in alot of time I suppose to even have one come close to me.

RE: Come on in Team 4!

Well, saturday morning me and my friend get up to the spot we were gonna try at around 5:45am. Right off we had 4 gobblers responding from the top of the mountain, only about 150 yards away. Within the next half hour those 4 gobblers grew into 8-10 gobblers all around us. Except the 4 on top of the mountian stayed up their and eventually went over the other side of the mountain and the other gobblers disappeared to one of the tons of hay fields. As we were walking down though we ended up spooking a gobbler off a tree only thing was he was right by a neighborhood. Today i also saw 2 gobblers in full strut across the road from my place. Too bad we cant hunt in the afternoon.[:'(]Gonna try on top of that mountain this weekend as it is quite a hike(5-6 miles) on foot. I will let you guys know how i do.
