Hey Guys, 2Poppa (Darryl) here ... from the "Land Of The Happy Huntin' Grounds" ... Kentucky that is.

I was beginning to wonder if I was going to be drawn as an alternate, as Kentucky's season begins this Saturday!

A little about myself: I hunt big bucks, as my best friend has the current Kentucky State Record (typical).
I hunt with my son Raymond, who was in Iraq as a sniper with the 125th Infantry, Army.
I've averaged between 65 to 80 days in the woods for the past 25 years and most of them were all day hunts.
I hunt both Kentucky and Ohio and I'm lookin' forward to meeting the rest of my team members!

And thanks to DoePeeSteve for PM'ing me and lettin' me know that I'm in the game ... Let's Get This Party Started!

Hi everybody thanks for letting me be on your team.My name is a Brittany, and i am 17. I am in the 12 grade. I have been hunting for about 10 years. I got a monster buck last year at bow season (which was my first year hunting with the bow). And I have a really big buck I got my eyeon now for this year. If ya'll want to see my buck go on deer101.com and look under lilbisshunter. I can get on here like every other day cause I've been busy but I promise to try to go on here and see whats going on, but the most important thing is if I get that buck for our team.

Welcome Darryl and Brittany to The Silent Stalkers, It's nice having you here. Sounds like both of you are eager to win this contest. I can't wait to see how this season plays out. Good Luck this Sat Darryl, sounds like you spend a bunch of time in the woods and that will pay off huge. Just think you could be our first on the board, Good Luck, buddy. Nice buck last year Brittany, can't wait to see what you have your eye on this year.

This team has so much potential and I think we can take it guys and girl.

HeyDarryl and Brittany glad to have you on the team.

I can't wait for things to get under way and see what happens.

PS - I finally figured out it was not fletching contact on my Spot Hogg Whammy, it was nock pinch from having my nock ties tied to close to the nocking point. It was naturally the last thing I took into consideration before going back to a Hostage or Whisker Biscuit.

Good luck this weekend Darryl

Welcome aboard Brittany and Darryl. OK now we got our team lets go out and do some damage. We got a little hill to climb to start off but if we can get more thanone of us to get some good sized bucks we definitely will be in good shape to win this tournament. My season opens on the 15th but i may get an opportunity to hunt the rut in Indiana. I'll keep you posted.

2Poppa.

Is that achery only or archery and firearm?? My son is stationed at Fort Knox as an MP...With that much time in the woods I'd love to pick your brain.. Our archery in Florida is only 6 weekends..and it's a highly pressure 50,000 acre WMA..I will be in an area though where I know lives a monster buck..I called him in last year with the CAN
Aquestion for ya..Also ..our deer are totally nocturnal.

Question1. Our rut is the first week of Nov- Dec. our archery is Sept- 15==Oct 15th WEEKENDS ONLY :(what kind of calls would you use? I;ve nevr pulled the bow string back yet on a deer but have got a few witha rifle..This is my 3rd year of seriously hunting witha bow.

I'm huntng in his bedding area and as far as I know no one huntsit but me..my immediate area gets no pressure..I'm a good mile off the road..Also..we don;t have any white oaks around..mostly live oaks and water oaks..

PS ..welcome everyone...looks a great team..

Hey Chuck, With only that many days to bow hunt you really are forced to make the best of it.

If the deer there are nocturnal and you know where they bed. There is your number one focal point. Get in there early maybe 2 hours before day light and wait for them to come to bed. I also hunt a bed area and I always get there an hour before day light, even if i close my eyes for an hour you can still listen to the movement around you.

As for calling, tough one. You can do some non aggressive grunting, but don't over do it. Also some soft rattling can help, act as though you're 2 bucks just playing around. But if their already bedded you might not be getting them up to easily.

Looks like most of us onthe team, our Rut starts around theend of Oct into Nov, so our patterns are a bit different then yours will be, unfortunitely.

I would stick with getting in early and getting them as they settle in for the day. I hope that helps, Chuck

Matt

oh ..I'm alway the first at the gate..5;00.;)When I meet up with an old timer..I pick his brain good..the old timers are usually there real early as well so I ask alot of questions..That's where I learned to ues calls..One fellow who shot3 one year said."If I ever forget my calls..I go back on home." I ask him what is his favorite call..He said the "Can" I've called 2bucks straight toward me with a Can..I've had deer answer a grunt but never got them to come..The old timers tell me..when they answer a grunt.."put your call away..they are on their way." If you grunt again they usually stay put. I'm always trying to better myself on my calling..Rattling has never worked for me..
