those rage 2 blades are awesome. my parents and brother just got back from bear hunting in ontario. the bears were not cooperative but at last light on the last night my brother got a shot on a bear. he made a poor shot and hit the bear in the front leg at a drastic angle. he nearly cut the leg right off. needless to say he got the bear because he cut the artery and the bear bled out. if he was shooting a smaller blade he would have only wounded it.

RE: Official Team 3 Thread

Yea, I hear they can be devastating! This is my first season taking them along, but so far the accuracy is awesome.

Maybe the "3" (for team 3) could be hanging from the end of the left main beam in the space above the word "bone" between the last two points?? I dont know just making a suggestion.

I am using a Diamond Rapture with Gold Tips that end with Rage 2 100g blades. As for the number 3. It looks like a three is already there. If you look at the word Bone, it looks like a three. I would just leave it be. Looks great!

besides we all seem to have them already pasted to our avatar anyways. scouting tonight at my new property. i am very excited to get back out in the woods. praying i find some sign.. i was doing some research the other day and found that my county is near the bottom in deer numbers in Indiana.

that explains why i never see any as i was driving trying to locate them.

bhunter50 08-27-2008 12:08 PM

RE: Official Team 3 Thread

Sounds good to me, I just thought that someone had mentioned incorporating a "3" into the design, but I am like you guys, I like it the way it is.

Numbers of deer doesn't necessarily mean no big deer....Illinois is one of the best big buck states in the country, but does not have the numbers many other states do. Buck to doe ratio is most important.Throw some cameras out there..might be surprised! Good luck...fingers crossed for ya!

Good eye Ron ;). I thought it would show up better but its kinda harder tosee once it got shrunken down. I'll play with it tonight and see what a bigger 3 in the upper right hand corner looks like. I'm also curious to see what the antlers will look like bleach white against the stone.

Did you guys catch that the "F" in Freaks is an antler as well? Haha, the shadowing kind of hides it.:)

i went and looked at the property. there is one large section of woods surrounded by agricultural fields. from what i understand the only person who hunts it is his brother and he doesnt shoot anything nor does he really 'hunt'. i walked around the best i could and found where he sits and i will sit up near where he does but i will be sitting down wind of the travel routes... duh... i found so much deer sign it was not funny.. they have about five rows of corn down and a ton of beans eaten. everything looks perfect. i have heard that there is a monster in there he has been chasing for years. if i play my cards right i can pick him off right under his nose. hunting the inner woods is out of the question because that seems to be the only bedding area for over a 1/2 mile.

One last night of work before a long weekend, needless to say, I can't wait to get in the woods and set up some cameras!!!

I decided to give the cuddeback capture a try. Set it up where I saw that decent buck come out.I know I am not hunting high numbers of deer. But I just need that 1 to make me satisfied. I think I'm going to stay clear of my farm until close to opener here in a couple of weeks.

bhunter50 08-28-2008 11:32 PM

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Thats my plan....set up a few cameras and check them on opening day on the way in for the hunt!!!

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Well i just got some bad news.. the area that i was scouting is nice property but does me no good now. the farmer does not own the woods so i have no place to set up. and that means that the treestand that i found belongs to someone else who might hunt frequently so i cannot set up by him. right?.. anyways he is going to check to see if the guy has allowed anyone to hunt his property.

i will call the farmer tonight and see if he will ask if i can hunt a much better property that he leases. crossing my fingers the land owner says that i can hunt there.

Avatar looks good;)Thanks for Dressin it up.

I will be Bow Hunting with
2 Different Bowtech Guardians
25.5" Draw at 65lbs
Carbon Express Aramid KV & Maxima Hunter Arrows
Muzzy 4 Blade 100 Grain Broadheads
GKF Infiniti Dropaway & Limbdriver Dropaway Rests
Fuse Intrepid Sights
Octane Quivers
Vane Tec Vanes
Winn Free Flight Glove Loop Hook Release

I do very little scouting on the main property I hunt since I prefer to bowhunt low impact and I know enough other bowhunters will be in there scouting and stirring up the area so I dont want to compound the problem...but the little scouting I dowill beat sunrise. I will go inwearing scent blocker and as scent free as possible and sit and pattern the doe's coming from night time feeding traveling to their bedding area's ,plus its like a Xmas suprise when I get to see a new buck I hadnt seen there before.:D
I am not doing any trail cameras.
I already know the property well and know that there issome great buckson the property and I know where they hang and travel.. but... this is a take a Doe required 1st property before I harvest a buck, and hopefully it will play out as easy as last year when I got my doe on Oct 2ndin the morningon my 2nd day bowhunting the property.
The bonus is that most of the surrounding farms are are also required to take a doe before they can take a buck also. With the exception of one of the bordering properties where they showed me some of their trail camera photos that were taken of deer over bait piles ( Illegal In Illinois )They are a bunch of Anything Goes Hunters.[:'(]

HNI Christine and I will be traveling to Brown County Illinois at the end of October for 3 days of bowhuntingat Hunting UnlimitedInc where I have be bowhunting for the last 7 years, we will have a couple of 1000 acres to bowhunt to ourselves and we will be the 1st to bowhunt the property for the year
Down side is that yesterday our governor in his infinitwisdom just announced the closeure on Nov 1stof a bunch of Illinois State Parks [:'(]that were open to public hunting and one was a great one, and State Historic Site'sand laying off 450 or so state workers due to budget cuts.

Budget cuts in Illinois.....really?????.......This is news to me!!!......HAHA....kidding....no surprise whatsoever! The DNR lost several million $$$of its budget....what better part of our state to cut it from than conservation!!

I don't like to put out alot of cameras either, preferring to leave the deer alone as much as possible. I did allow one camera out on my farm however. Check out the link to some of the pics from it.

How many of you will be filming your hunts?? I will be trying like heck to get my kill on film, but can't make any promises! I love to film hunts and have been doing so for several years now and a good friend of mine and I are going to start producing videos. We have a ball in the tree together each fall and our lady friends love to hunt with us as well........pretty entertaining!

Spent all day yesterday placing stands on my property. Put some feed out at each one to start drawing them into the area. I'll cut the feed before bow season. I also placed a trail cam over my trough feeder that holds a sweet feed and corn mix. I'll pull the memory card tomorrow evening and see what I've got on camera in two nights. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to post.

Hey Freaks, pretty quiet on the team 3 thread, I hope you all had a greatholidayweekend. Mine was busy with family and friends. We have3 birthdays around the end of Aug so we celibrate with a BBQ or two. No time for hunting related things this weekendexcept a little shooting in the yard. I am dead on to 35yds and that is plenty for me.

Picked up somelighted nocks Tracer by Easton, work great so far anyone try them or hear anything good/bad?

Good luck to all of you with the trail cams can't wait to see some pics. I gave up 2 camers gone 2 seaons ago. Nothing expensive but till I get a more private spot to hunt I will do it the old fashion way.

Paul

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Not a thing wrong with the ol fashioned way! I have a very exclusive hunting spot that I run my cameras on. I'm, generally, not too comfortable putting them on farms that I feel may get a lot of attention from trespassers or folks that I don't know. That is a lot of money to leave up for grabs!

As for me, I have a wedding to get ready for...tying the knot in less than two weeks....September 13th! You may tell yourself....oh this means half as much "standtime" as last season!! But, thankfully, she loves to bowhunt as well! Originally, she just wanted to start this as a hobby as a way to spend more time with me....but now she is in love with it after she shot her first deer with my Thompson/Center. Needless to say, I LOVE HER!!!! HAHAHA! Opening day is less than 30 days out!!!

ron3775 09-03-2008 06:30 AM

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

The spots that I hunt, there is no preseason scouting. I hunt on federal ground and the only time you get to see the location is that morning when your up in the tree. I guess it is good for the fact there is no human scent to change the route of the deer until its to late. I know the area is good for the fact that we see deer there all the time.

Well I took my Sharpshooters proficiency test today and all went well. Season is approaching and I did draw for some metro hunts where the monsters may roam. Hopefully everything works out and I tag a good one. I am still waiting to check the cam on the farm I know there is at least one decent buck there and I had several pics of smaller bucks but nothing that I would put my tag on just yet in a photo. AT least I will be seeing some deer until my metro hunt comes up.

I also picked up the tracer knocks after having spotty success with the luminocks. Sure anxious to see how well they perform. My luck at the moment of truth I will notice the magnet fell off my bow or something. lol

Surf62 09-03-2008 06:21 PM

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Tribal, the magnets seem to be the week point in the system. I am not sure how well the velcro will hold up so a extra magnet goes in the back pack, just hope I notice it is gone before I am full draw on a deer.:DI was thinking of epoxy instead of the velcro. They do work great I shot right at last light about 1/2 hour ago 30 arrows before it got too dark. No problems at all.

Metro hunts, I wish they did something like that here we have some monsters roaming in andout of backyards and woodlots but you can't hunt them. In some areas the towns brings in sharp shooters during the winterto cull the herd.

Tribal 09-03-2008 08:08 PM

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Actually a good idea, I have to run to the pro shop, I will pick up a extra one as well. They do seem to be superior to luminocks thats for sure.

Just checking in, haven't been here in a while. I was practicing about an hour ago and shot my first robin hood @ 30 yards. The bow is feeling good in the hand right now. I am ready for the 1st of October to get here. I am headed to the farm to move some cameras around and do a little scouting. It's getting close, only about 26 days.

Checked the cam today on the small farm I hunt. Not many pics but every single one was of the same 8 point I have a dozen or so pics of. Hes decent not really the caliber buck I would normally shoot but we will see how he looks in person hopefully. He hits my camera spot almost every evening between 7:30 - 8:00 pm so I have him patterned pretty well. Hes roughly 110" deer but thats just a guess.

How is everything going? not much has been said so I hope that everyone is alright. Yesterday I finally got my permit to hunt some good property. Weather has been good, so the EHD shouldn't be much of a problem this year like it was last.

Not so good.:( The deer stopped coming out at the family farm n I have no idea why. They won't even touch the feed. Nothing but coons on trail cam. O well, I've always got the city to whack a big one.

I'll be in Ocean City from Thursday to Sunday, so u probably won't hear from me until next week. Hope everyone is seeing some deer.

Tribal, less then 2 days to go WooooHooooo I wish we where starting soon. Come on October.

Just curious how many deer can each ofyouharvest where you hunt? Bucks? Does?

For me PA is 1 buck as a anout of state land ownerthats all for me. However on Long Island in NY I am not exactly sure never put it to the test. As long as you are shooting does they give you another tag. Bucks are 1 with the bow 1 with the gun. Upstate NY the rules change 1 Buck andif you are lucky2 doe. Depends on how many tags you draw.

Paul

Tribal 09-11-2008 10:09 PM

RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)

Well we can only tag 1 buck but does depending on the area your hunting you can have unlimited antlerless tags around the metro area. Some areas up to 4 antlerless and some areas are a lottery. lol

Luckily I do controlled hunts around the metro so no limit while I hunt there. I usually take 4 does and a nice buck as I have been very fortunate but this year I lost my honey hole so it's a whole new game and learning process for this farm I have permission to hunt. It's small and borders public land but I have caught 5 bucks on my cuddeback 3 small basket racks and 2 decent eights that I would usually let walk but this year who knows. I need to see them out of velvet to make that determination.

Well fellas, I'm doing it Saturday night.....marrying the girl of my dreams!! You are probably thinking....THATS WHAT THEY ALL SAID!! But, she truly is....she takes care of me....feeds me....cleans me.....takes care of me in the bedroom haha....and best of all she loves to wear her camo in the fall with me!!

In IL, we can kill two bucks a year and really have no limit on does, as long as you have a valid/legal permit in hand! I am jealous of you folks that have already hit the woods...I still have to wait a couple weeks, but I'm ready!! Good luck and keep us posted on all the action!!
