RE: The buck I was after is dead
Cooter that was a dandy buck your neighbor got, but like the saying goes "There's always somebody bigger and badder out there" that will be the one you'll get.
Rammer I know the feeling, I've been eating tag soup for too many years now. Themdeer you have there would do just fine. Good luck with them. Well I hunted Wed. morning and evening, and then again this morning, nothing. I kicked one up on the way in this morning. I've sat six stands so far and have yet to see a deer. (excuse here) I'm blaming the full moon and heat, I'm seeing plenty of fresh sign, so I know they are around. Come on cooler weather. Hey just a reminder eveyone be safe out there! A guy I know who lives on the next street over from mine fell out of his stand last week. Broke three vertebres in his neck, he had surgery on Friday. I heard he was able to take some steps today. Very lucky. |
RE: The buck I was after is dead
WOW, lucky indeed. I don't get guys who climb trees without a harness. I mean, if falling from the top of the sears tower and falling from 20 feet up can both result in the same thing, why would you think safety on the towerbut not on the tree?

RE: The buck I was after is dead
ORIGINAL: Red 5 stdby Rammer, great pics! I love the height on the second buck. It looks like the tips almost touch in the front. Good luck this weekend Cooter. Hopefully you can get the big brother of your neighbors buck! I'm staying home this weekend. We have family coming to visit unfortunately. (I know, turn in your man card). I'm trying to keep the peace and giving up this weekend so that I can be gone most of October. Good luck to everybody else. Here's a photo of a head on view of that buck, its kinda blurry, he musta been moving his head at the time of the pic: ![]() |

Congratulations Mulie on the Elk. It's good to see someone is having some success. I have to work tomorrow,Monday and Tuesday then I'll be back after it.

RE: The buck I was after is dead
Mulie, congrats on the BULL! very cool, long story short here, the elk are going nuts I am back at work today ..wish I wasnt..been trying to get my bud a bull all week, I havent even tried to be the hunter.. Anway its been pure insanity here, we've been in on big herd bulls, missed a shot with a deflection...elk going nuts too too much stuff to try to list and write about.. Rybo is out right now as a Type hunting solo at my place.. it has just been unreal elk action.. for him, he just needs to buy a break! He had a huge 6x6 320-330 herd bull at 10 yards last night.. NO shot!
Whitetails, I passed on a 125 class 4x4 last night off the ground at 10 yards.. too low of light for my camera to pick him up but plenty of shooting light.. I wouldnt have shot him anyway, there are more mature bucks in there..this buck was 3.5 |
RE: The buck I was after is dead
Guys,
Good luck on your hunting! I'm leaving tomorrow for a moose hunt and will be back in about 2 weeks. The whitetails should be moving a bit better by then. |
RE: The buck I was after is dead
Nock 'em dead Greg. And as luck would only have it, now that you're leaving, the weather in WI is gonna take a turn for the better. It's been high 70's and low 80's all week but this week they're calling for daytime highs in the 50's and 60's. Should do a bit of good for whitetail movement!
I hunted pretty hard for a week and a half, sweating in the heat, and all I got out of it was a doe. Thankful for that of course but I only saw a total of 4 deer in 7 sits. |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
In case you guys missed it or are interest in a hunting venture of mine, I wrote this in the mainbowhunting forum:
I was out yesterday afternoon and all was good andquiet til about 5pm when I heard the dreaded ringing of theever annoyingdeuce deuce. I thought, oh well, at least it's just one guy and a couple shots. WRONG!!! This idiosus maximus let off at least 40 shots in the next hour. Holy crap, I don't ever remember the bag limit on squirrels being that much. Worse yet, he kept coming my way. Well, here's where ASAT comes into play. The guy ended up 6 count'em 6 yards from my tree and was standing there looking around. I was already stood up 'cause I heard him coming and thought it might be a deer he kicked up. Yea, so he's 6yds and I'm 15ft up in a tree with nothing in between us. He stood there scanning the forest floor and even looking up into the trees. Twice while scanning he looked right at me for a split second but obviously didn't see me. I started to get pissed 'cause I thought there was no way he couldn't have noticed me. A whole 2min went by and I finally decide to let him know that he would've been a dead deer. I cleared my throat and it freaked him out! Man it was funny! Can your camo do this? LOL |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Are you sure your not baiting Hoytail? Cuz you know them kind of idiots will come to anything. lol, I know how you feel. Two years ago when I hunted some public land in Wisconsin I watched a idiot firing a 22 rifle into the woods without giving a hoot what or where he might hit. I thought for sure when I got back to the parking area I would find my truck all shot up, thankfully I didn't. I would have loved to seen the look on the guys face when you cleared your throat, them underwear aren't any good.
Anybody been out this weekend? I've had to work all weekend and I still have tomorrow and Monday to work. I'll be out Tues. A.M.though. The weather is finally starting to cool off, possible frost next week. That should gettem moving. Well good luck everyone, who's going to step up and get us on the board first, and idiots don't count Hoytail. lol. |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Hey I forgot to mention something. Have any of you seen the video of that monster that was filmed in Buffalo county WI. ? Check out buffalocountyoutfitters.com.
What a deer. |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
I missed the opener this morning due to being extremely hungover.....[:'(]The school that my oldhighschool Co-Oped with for sports had their last homecoming last nite. So there was a big party last nite mourning the loss of another small school.
I will be in my stand in the early AM hours though, I'm going to shower an relax tonite. The wind is going to be absolutely perfect, and hopefully something with antlers comes by, if not a doe will get whacked for good measure. :D |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Been there before Rammer! Oct. 1 and I will be out in full force!
|
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)

|
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Well guys I scored, but we're not on the board. I finally seen some Deer yesterday. I had this doe at 15yds and I've been dieing to try my new bow out on something other than a target. This should have been my first on camera kill but I didn't push the record button. Oh well. I still have three more Doe tags and my Buck tag to fill.

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Way to go crabclaw! Nothing wrong with whacking a doe to start out the season right!
I just got home from the local Mathews Pro Shop.....Brought home a new DXT tonite.....Can't wait to get 'er dialed in. I am shooting a brand new Hoyt Katera XL this season that has yet to draw blood, will be using that till I get real comfy with the new bow, then I'll hopefully still have a doe tag left to try out the new Mathews. |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Right on Crab, congrats on the doe kill! I'll have to check the pix out at home.. no dice here at work..filters them out..
|
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Thanks guys , hopefully the next picture will be a Deer with lots of horn. I went over to Wisconsin yesterday and talked to the guy who doesmy mounts, and he had a rack in the shop of a buck a guy got in WI that scored 170. What a monster. I can't wait to get back out on Sun.
Hey Rammer I almost bought the Katera myself this year, I just liked the feel of the X Force better. Good luck getting your new one dialed in. It's a great feeling knocking that first one down with a new bow. Well good luck eveyone. |
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Hey Crab, where is your taxidermist at in WI?
|
RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)

Not a whitetail, but my first big game animal of the season: I'm on the left, let my buddy shoot the bigger buck this year, since he let me last time we went. Both bucks were bedded down together. ![]() ![]() |

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Thanks guys! Rammer sweet goat! They sure are fun to hunt! I met a lady at the Ducks Unlimited Banquet two weeks ago. We started talking. She said her husband is over in Iraq again.. Being a fellow service meber I offered to her my services. I told her is she needs help with anything I would be glad to help her out. Then her and my wife started talking about horses. They have five, we have one. She offered for us to bring our horse to her property because it is so close to my home. about 1/4 mile away. How cool is that! Then to top it off she said I could hunt her 15 acres of hardwoods which is surrounded by corn and a ton of autumn olive. Anyway i walked in and found a trail. Walked it a little ways and found a couple scrapes. Figured it looked good. Climbed the tree and settled in. Not **** 10 minutes latet here he came. Walked right to the tree I was in. I shot him right below my stand. Dropped him in his tracks!

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Thanks fellas.
My other buddy that was along hunting with us shot his goat on Saturday, about a 12" one. He missed a pretty good 14" goat right before that. Then on Sunday we were getting ready to head for home and we spotted these 2 bucks off a mile an half, after taking a few pictures thru my spotting scope we decided they were worth a try. The only problem was it was BIG wide open country between us and the 2 bucks. We end up finding a good drainage and end up 175 yards from the pair. I told my buddy he had the first shot at the bigger one, since he let me shoot the bigger antelope 2 years ago when we drew tags. He dropped his in its tracks, and the other buck and the doe ran over the hill before I could get a shot at the other buck. When we got up to his buck, I decided to walk up the hill and see if the other one was still standing around, and he was only 150 yards away. I didn't have my rifle so I ran down the hill an grabbed my rifle and my pack and got back up to set up on him. He saw me and took off running, at around 350 yards he decided to stop an look back. I got settled in on my backpack and let one ring out, he hunched up at the shot an ran about 30 yards and summer saulted and piled up for good. This was my first animal with my new 270WSM, the 130gr BTs sure did a number on the goat, blew up the lungs (nothing was left over than gel) and wrecked the offside shoulder. |
