ORIGINAL: Muliefever Shed, Nice to see you! Where are you from in Idaho? I am also a Idahoan! Born and raised right outside of Boise! I am heading back to elk hunr in 11 days! Can't wait! Grew up in Riggins as a kid, moved to St. Maries in Jr High and have lived up here in Northern Idaho every since, minus my 5 years in Dillon Mt, going to college. Live nearHarrison Idaho now, (east side of CDA lake) Teach school in Post Falls.. Nice to see a fellow Idahoan here, best of luck elk hunting, I was watching some elk last night from the house here, one nice 5x5 bull has moved in with the cows.. few bigger bulls should show up any day now.. or at least I hope so, I will be hunting elk in the mornings and whitetails in the evenings starting Sat! and if a bear comes by hes getting whacked too! :D Antelope hunt was a tough one this year, hunted my arse off for 7 days in the high country.. mountain antelope down in unit 50.. Had a great time, my wife filmed it all, just didnt get the shot I needed on a big herd buck I was after all week, he had 28 does and 1 other buck running in his herd.. I pretty much locked onto him all week an just hunted him. Came close to a shot on thursday as he herded his girls by me at 60 yards in my man made sage blind.. My wife and I had a great time nevertheless and I will be back down there next summer again, I love it. I may get one more chance to run down one weekend in Sept.. will have to see.. I will try downloading a few video clips on utube tonight of the footage ... |
RE: Official Team 23 Thread

Hey Ryan - if Troy does not put one on the ground in the next three weeks you will both have to start practicing your quick shots, or at least use different bh's for closest to the pin!
Best of luck fella's!! |
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
I hope you do Troy, there are plenty of bulls to go ‘round. Hopefully something comes by for you to drill be it buck, bull or bear.

RE: Official Team 23 Thread
Hey WI guys, do you hunt opening weekend? It's coming up fast and I'm itching to get out. I didn't last year b/c it was too hot and wondered what your thoughts were?
|
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
I'll be giving it a shot, but I'll be just hunting the evenings.

RE: Official Team 23 Thread
got a new bow today, Ross 09'. had a hard time picking between the tomcat and the Ross, in the end the Ross was quieter so I am now on the Bowtech wagon. I was having major problems with my old jenning buckmaster all week long and this morning was the last straw. I haven't had a brand new bow since I was 12, I am now 27, I like the way this thing is set up, can't wait to draw first blood. Any one have any conections with getting a new cam for a 2001 jennings buckmaster? I need a cam size 02 or 03 with all the guts!

RE: Official Team 23 Thread
Congratulations on the new bow! Welcome to the Bowtech family.

Good family to be in!

RE: Official Team 23 Thread
WI is Sept. 13. I ask b/c I usually only see does if I hunt opening weekend. The bucks don't start moving until later in October when the temps drop. If I do hunt, it is usually for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. Itell myself every year that I'm not going to hunt opening weekend the next yearbutI can't resist.
|
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
I have seen some good hunting in Sept over the years during the evenings. Deer are often following the same patterns that they did in the summer unless their primary food source changes (acorns, different food plot, etc).
|
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
Opening weekend can be one of your best chances to bag a nice buck. Usually evening hunts are your best chance. I don't hunt mornings until the last week of Oct.
What you need to do is scout out a food source and find where a bachelor group of bucks are feeding. Find where they are coming out at and set up a stand, then only hunt it when the wind is right. |
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
Thanks for the great advice Greg. I've only been hunting this land for 3 years and still have a lot to learn. It's the big woods of Northern WI with no crop fields within 20 miles. The acorns are hit or miss depending on the season and I haven't identified a consistent food source. I tried to get a food plot going this year with some chickory and clover but the heat and lack of rain smoked it out. Until now I've been concentrating on natural funnels.

ORIGINAL: Red 5 stdby I've only been hunting this land for 3 years and still have a lot to learn. It's the big woods of Northern WI with no crop fields within 20 miles. Right now here in the mountains I am concentrating on water sources sinces it still good and hot out from the summer, dry and water is the most congregating variable in the whitetails daily regimen. Food second for me since there is so much of it here ...everywhere in all directions in the form of thick brushy/browse species spread through the timber.. Clearcuts are the key here...andare excellent food sources. If your woods have logging practices in them, seek out old clearcuts and water sources to look for sign and try setting up and glassing them in the evenings this time of year. The big boys may be closer than you expect. Good luck. |
RE: Official Team 23 Thread
I've got 2 trail cams out right now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going up this weekend to hang a few stands and check the pics.

nice buck Rammer, if everyone connects on the bucks they have posted we will be untouchable. Dark Horses watch out.

RE: AVATAR
Well...wish me luck guys.
I'll be hunting out at a farm in ND Fri-Sun this weekend. This will be my first timehunting at this placeso i'm not surewhat to expect but I know there are some good bucks around there. Looks like the wind will be blowing 20-30mph at times this weekend...hoping that doesn't effect deer movement too much but it might. I'll let you know how it went when I get back. |
RE: AVATAR
Good luck everyone! I hung my stands yesterday! I am also getting ready to head off on my elk hunt! I hope we all kick a**!

RE: AVATAR
Good luck to both of you guys!
