Here it is! I don't think anyone on my team shot a buck last season... I shot at one.. but we all had a heck of a lot of fun sharing stories back and forth... looking forward to meeting everyone!

Speak yourself, Swamp! [8D]

It's been a loooooong time since I didn't take a buck. ;)

How's everyone doing?

Oh... you were talking about your team last year.... We JUST missed winning the darn thing last year; if we could have just talked any of about four guys into shooting a 110"-er... :(:D

RE: Official Team 18 thread

Well, theres 4 of us so far. Where are you guys hunting this year?? I'll be spending most of my treestand time in the 4 "bow Only" counties in WV. I've been on a dry spell for bucks the past few years, but this area has a big reputation for holding p&y bruisers. I have high hopes for this year. I guess only time will tell!

Any suggestions yet on team name or captian??

wibowhntr 08-21-2008 08:35 PM

RE: Official Team 18 thread

I will be hunting strickly WI this year. Some private but probably mostly public because of the fuel cost and the private land I hunt is further away. I am hoping to have a great year. I do set my personal standards at 3 1/2 or better, but a big 2 1/2 in velvet will be awfully tempting since our season start Sept 13th.

squireboy 08-23-2008 01:11 AM

RE: Official Team 18 thread

Still only 4 of us, but I got bored after work and e-mailed the others that have yet to check in. Maybe everyone will be checked in soon.

Headin out in the morning to build a new treestand on my fiancee's grandmothers land. There are alot of deer (and Bear for that matter) in that area, and there have been some really good bucks spotted in there. I hope to spend alot of time hunting this stand come fall.

Hey guys. I got the email from squireboy this morning and I am officially checking in. Like squireboy, I am from West Virginia. Normally West Virginia doesn't produce very big bucks, EXCEPT in one of the four bow-only counties. These counties have been bow-only for more than 25 years and produce some monster bucks every year. I have a 3600 acre lease in one of those counties (Logan) which I run. Last year we had two 170 inch bucks taken off the lease that will likely be among the top 5-10 bucks taken in all of WV last year. One of those bucks will actually be on the cover of the West Virginia Game and Fish magazine this fall. Already this year I have couple of nice bucks on game cam that I will be after. You can see some video of them here:

http://s514.photobucket.com/albums/t342/madvilledoc/

I can't think of a good team name right now, but I'll give it some thought. Good luck to everyone. Season opens here in WV Oct. 18th.

Hey guys,
Just checking in. Thanks for the email.

I am hunting Indiana only this year. I have some private land but no food plots, unlessyou want to count all the corn and beans surrounding the property... hehe.

I didn't take a buck last year with my bow. I have a couple on the property that are probably around 110".

Good luck this year guys.

madvilledoc--awesome southern WV bucks!! I hope to get down to McDowell this week and check my cameras.

So far theres no sign of the buck I hunted all year last year. Altho, there are a ton of bucks with p&y potential. Here are just a few of last years pics from the land I hunt:

And by the way, the time and date on the cameras isn't set, so you cant really go by that.

Heres one of the bucksbucks from this year:

And this is the buck that I have hunted for the past couple years. I REALLY want a shot at this deer, I just love the character.

Great bucks squireboy. Nice scenery shots as well. I love the WV mountains. Good luck this season.

Checking in here from PA, been a few years since I been out with the bow, but the trail cam pics are looking good and new private land closer to home makes it look like a good year to come. Time to climb the trees once again two stand are already up more to be up in the next couple weeks.

Good deer, squireboy!

Any of those would make dandy contest entries! I can tell you from experience in this thing, it's just as much if not more about quantity than it is quality. If eight of us enter something at 100" or more... ;)

RE: Official Team 18 thread

I don't have a spot nailed down yet. I don't hunt public land... in my part of the world... public land doesn't really exist.

I have plenty of leads and plenty of open invites... but come Monday (tmw... or well now today) I'll be finding out the fine details and price of the lease this year.... it'll either be doable or inpossible. I ain't got 2 Gs sitting in the bank like some folks do.... nor do I have a desire to pay 2 Gs to shoot a deer. The fate of the season hangs in the balance.

I do have a bunch of waterfowl and fishing buddies though. One waterfowl buddy is begging for people to come kill deer out his yard. He shot the small one last year.... 21" inside.... probably worth at least a scout huh?

SwampCollie 08-25-2008 12:17 AM

RE: Official Team 18 thread

Frankly though, with dove and goose season opening Sept 1st... my mind is in other places... I'm looking forward to bow season as always.. and thankfully waterfowl season pretty much shuts down in October, which is bow month in VA.

This could be golden... all the waterfowlers I know are so engrossed in digging all their pits and making repairs and everything else they do, that it seems they show no interest in deer --yet, they seem to be around them a lot. I'd say it's worth a scout! ;)

Hey guys,
Just checking in- I'm a bit reserved heading into the Bow season this year as I separated my shoulder 3 weeks ago & it's taking some time to heal. Our season doen't open until October 13th (7 weeks from today), so I've just shut myself down for the last 3 weeks and will stay shut down for another three as I don't want to take any steps backwards in my rehab.

Now, the good news...... if I can manage to get healthy, my buddy & I have a 150 class 10 pointer and two 130 class 9 pointers running around our area here in MA between our two food plots! Oh yeah- I'm also headed out to Nebraska the first week of November for a Whitetail Bowhunt- so I just may have to hold off submitting my deer for this contest until then! :D

Here are 2pictures of the 10:

Are we going to pick a team name? I have some ideas- none that I'm married to............ just something that's better than "Team 18" (which shouldn't be tough to beat)

Rob

Hey guys, just checking in. Sorry it took me a while but I just got married on the 2nd of this month so you can imagine how busy its been lately.
Anyways, I'm hunting here in southern WI and I have seen a few bucks on my trailcam so we'll see what hapens in a couple of weeks. Don't own land so I just hunt a few farmers tree lines. Not the best but I have seen a couple on nice bucks over the years. I just got permission to hunt a new spot this past week and I got my cameras out there so I'll let ya know if I see anything from that spot. Take it easy and I'll try and think up some names while I'm at work today.

Phil

Swamp and Greg,

You guys seem to have an unmotivated group here. Good luck to both of you.

Duck starts soon here too and I always see deer while duck hunting. However, I'll spend more time in a tree stand then in a duck blind until second season. Teal comes in Sept 1 and woodies start in October.

To be completely honest- I'm not getting the warm-fuzzies regarding the level of dedication/commitment from this group. I've tried to get things going with respect to a team name and in the last 2 days- not one other team member has offered up any alternative names to the one I suggested & only one other team member has replied at all!

My teams in the ArcheryTalk & Mathews Forums had about 50 posts each in the first 2 days after the teams were created. Frankly, I've seen more excitementin a fart on a log.

OK- now that I got that off my chest, how about these names:

Dead Deer Walking
Pass Thru Crew
Death From Above
Antler Assasins

Any comments on any of the five names I've suggested to date???
Come on guys- the season is upon us for some guys in certain states,
why did you sign up if you weren't going to be active?

And for the record, I was the first to start the team thread, the first to suggest team names, and the first to send emails to team members who had yet to check in. I was alittle concerned over the motivation of the group too, but lets not go down that route.

I don't care what we pick for a name- so long as we pick one...............
Once we have a name, we can get to work on a team banner that we can use in all of our signatures,
it's a nice touch!

Whatever name you all want is good with me.

NE Owl---As long as the majority was ok with it I would be captian

As far as team name, so far 3 of us like "The Pass Thru Crew". I think if no one has anything else or any objections by Friday we should stick with it so we can get this ball rolling. Anyone object to that??

Because I am on a four day business trip, working 12 hour days with no break and no lunch.

I have to work when the season is out so I can hunt when it comes in. I don't have the luxury of sitting on my duff looking at a computer screen all day. Somebody has to get up and drive the mule.

Season doesn't come in until October in VA. I actually have an invite to go shoot deer out of a duck impoundment (they are eating the corn to pieces) down in NC where the bow season opens Sept 5. So I might get to hunt early this year.

Frankly I don't care if we just call ourselves Team 18.... I'm not going to lose sleep over a name... the contest isn't about the name. But lets try not to act like a bunch of 18 year olds flipping out when a girl doesn't call us the day after a date.

Nobody was flipping out. I very calmly expressed my concern of what I perceived to be a lack of interest on the part of some of our team members. I was calm then- I'm calm now. No flipping out, just trying to get the ball rolling and get folks "off their duff" with respect to participating on this team.

To me, calling ourselves "Team 18" would be the height of unimagitiveness- and extremely lame. And for the record, I'm very calm as I type this. Heart rate 32 BPM, Blood pressure 130 over 80.

Pass Thru Crew is fine with me...........

Pass Thru Crew, goin once, goin twice.......Anybody???

If everyone is cool with it, tommorrow thats what we will be. We are one of the very few teams without a name so it really needs to be outta the way. Then we can forget about "politics" and just HUNT. Thats what its all about anyway!!

On that note, anyone spot any new bucks lately?? I hope to check my cams this weekend. I've got my fingers crossed because I think I'm in a really good spot.

Pass Thru Crew sounds good to me. Here are a couple others to consider:

Rack Assassins
Master Assassins
Gut Shot Gimps
Gut Shot Gang
The Reapers
Buck Reapers

Relax GreyDawg. It's still early. Like SwampCollie, bow season doesn't even begin here in WV for nearly 2 months. Once we start getting into the season, posts will start to kick in. The group will be fine.

I hung another stand over the weekend giving me 3. I'm planning on hanging at least one more and 1 blind. I am getting pictures of 4-5 nice bucks and a lot of 2-3 year olds. It should be a good season.

I like pass thru crew. It is catchy, so lets roll with it.

Sorry if I got a bit worked up. There are tons of things that I'd MUCH rather be doing than pulling long hours at work. I have been a bit frustrated with them lately, and it wasn't right of me to let that frustration show here. My appologies to everyone.

In response to the ? about spotting bucks.... a good friend of mine lives right down on the river (James), they only have like 6 acres, but it is absolutely slam full up with deer. Almost hit a fawn yesterday with the golf cart. We've been scoutin out for geese and teal and are heading to build a duck blind today... apparently there are a bunch of big boys hanging out up there. I'm exciting more so because he wants Rebecca (my better half) to come in and arrow a doe... or a bruiser if one comes by. I have some pretty good leads this year, but its not going to be like last season where I can just ride out to the club and hunt for three days straight. Going to be a lot of traveling around and calling in favors and building duck blinds on the side for a few afternoon deer hunts. It all works out well.

wibowhntr 08-29-2008 08:10 AM

RE: Official Team 18 thread

I like pass thru crew also. Season starts in two weeks here so have been busy practicing and trying to locate some more bucks. I am all for squireboy being captain.
