Jan Big Islannd fall hunt, results
Well I thought I'd share a little of what happend this weekend & what I learned during my first fall turkey hunt on the Big Island.
1. My new choke is really tight at close range,...she bobbed, I missed.
2. Never take a buddy's word that his new 3.5" Ulti mag turkey buster shoots great, when it's never been patterned. High at 40yds.
3. It helps to have a shell in the chamber. I unloaded to climb down a steep rock wall, took two steps and seen'em in over some tall grass. Turkey's in range, gun in hand, CLICK....
Had a blast though did not get discourgaged. You gotta earn the bird. I consider this trip to be part of the dues I gotta pay. Yesterday morning we set up near some roosted birds. Sun rise & flydown was beautiful & amazing. I wish I had a video camera. We had a flock of some B-52's come in, just out of range. Two others we didn't know about had roosted across the road and stopped 15ft behind me before joining the rest of the flock. Nothing between him & me but air and Mossy Oak. That alone was the biggest thrill of the hunt. Some guys did get some nice birds. Pix coming soon.
