Depends on how big you are, how long your draw length is and how well you shoot.

I would not suggest a short bow for a larger archer with a long draw length, or a newer archer. They work, but a longer bow would be more forgiving to shoot well.

As far as "kick" or recoil goes size really doesn't play a huge part in it. And most short bows have more laid back limbs that actually help with hand shock and jump.
