Al-take it easy there. Motorcycle Great idea. Are you getting any Pics Yet?
Fran great pics there looks like nice place. Is that a creek running under it? It looks like a LOVE SHACK. Next time you go up take some pics of the inside. My weekend was filled with rain 7+ inches and more on the way. Here is a picture of the road going to my house. It is only 75 yards from my house I was driving through it with my Silverado and it was up to the floor boards. |

Nothing too great yet Dan, ive been busy as heck working the last few weeks to catch up on some bills and what not, im making a run to town later to get some batteries and stuff like that and maybe pick up a few more memory cards. Hopefully i'll have some time later today to get the camera backout.
Interesting twist this year...The area i hunt i basically a pretty big woods thats surrounded by old CRP on most side. This year however a couple of the old fields were planted with corn. Probably about 50 acres worth. Ill have some late summer scouting to do to see how the deer will react to this, im pretty curious. Anyways, gotta be at the dentist in 15...darnit...see ya! |

Howdy Gents! Hope everyone is staying dry, it’s been raining like a banshee around here the last few weeks… Dan - looks like you guys are having some crazy weather too!Looks like there is going to be a lot of land that either doesn’t get planted all together OR just floods out with no crop. So it’s hard to say how that’s going to affect the hunting. Hope the farmers can some how make it through alright, there the real ones that I’m worried about.Towards the end of July I’ll put out my camera’s – only got 2 right now but would like to add one more to the fold this year.Fran – looks like a sweet getaway!Al – I usaully like corn in the area. Some times it’s a double edged sword if the deer are never coming out, but it seems like it’s usually for the better….Mike – Hear you on the economy man – hope things improve!Trying to decide how much work I want to do with my bow this off-season… Initially wanted to put on a new string/cables set maybe a sight, but I’m not sure if I’m going to get it done or not. Shoulder has really been bothering me (since last season really), so I’m not sure how much shooting I’m gonna be able to do. May just try and coast through this season and then get my shoulders looked at after bow season. Each of my shoulders have been dislocated multiple time (football & baseball mostly) and the sports doc always told me that eventually I would probably need to have them "cleaned out"….

Jason - glad to hear all is well on your end of the wires.
Mike - Soriano is out for 6 weeks. Are the cubbies in trouble? Man, it seems like mother nature really put the screws to the farmers out west this spring. I didn't realize that the rains were going to have such a big impact on the crops... I'm guessing that will really put a premium on certain food sources, if you have access to them. I just got in - was out whomping some groundhogs this evening.Honest to god, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I missed three times tonight. Almost like I forgot how to shoot a gun. I wound up going 2-for-5, which is bad. I whiffed two times on a hog that I misjudged. He was over 400, and I had him guessed at 300-350. So Ichunked one a foot low on the first shot - then I compensated a little more for the follow-up shot, and I burned it right under his fat little ass. He did a flip and went down the hole. I can swallow 2 whiffs at 400+. But I still hate missing. Got this guy through the front shoulders at 150. ![]() He really had a major excavating operation going on. Then (and I'm embarrassed to admit this), I whiffed on one at about 80 yards (with the bipods down and a solid rest). I was trying to blow his head off, and just pulled offand flinched when the trigger broke. No excuse - just made a really bad shot. I never flinch on the rifle. The trigger felt stiffer than I remember. Maybe I was just rusty. Right when I was ready to pack up, I caught this guy peeking out of his hole. ![]() I smell varmint poontang. Redemption. After I put the varmint rig away, I saw a buck with some really nice framework, similar to the one I killed last year. EDIT: Here's a pic of my varmint rifle. It's probably a little overkill for shooting nuisance groundhogs, but it was one of those things I've always wanted. If Red Dawn ever happens, this guy will be ready. Savage 12vss 22-250 w/ custom 16 oz aftermarket trigger, choate dual pillar-bedded stock & Swift 8-32x AO scope. She rings like a tuning fork after the shot. |
RE: 13-Official Team 13 Thread
Sweet rig you got there Quik! The Savage is a tack driver, I love mine!

RE: 13-Official Team 13 Thread
Fran 400 yards is a long shot at a small target. I would be lucky if I got within a foot of them. I laughed my head off when I read the Varmint poontang. That is a nice looking rig.
Jason I don't know how any of the farmers got there crops in this year. With the snow lasting until the end of April and the rain the fields are mud. Well I'm off to the great north woods to check my plots, drink some beer, cut some firewood, drink some more beer, Build a bridge, and maybe drink some beer. With all the rain we got I want to check and see how bad it is. I will take some pics this weekend. The Pictures we are getting on the trail camera's most of them are of bears. We might stop putting out corn until they move on. It seems in spring we have a lot of bears then the move on come July so I hope they keep with that pattern. Have a great weekend, Dan |

Howdy ya'll, ever find yourself laying awake in the middle of the night wondering, man i wonder what Al's hunting land looks like? Well today is your lucky day! (If this works) Everying inside the red is huntable land, black dots are stand sites (some already there, others are possibilities), and the little blue lines are creeks (Duh). Well....enjoy!

Gentlemen...
Good to see we are all enjoying the off season in one way or another. From shootin' cute and small animals to off roading with rental cars, ATV's, and my wifes SUV (a lengthy story for me) it seems we are all trying to take our minds of whitetail for a little while... anyway.. It is half way into June already.. can you believe it? Soon gents the air will turn, the wind will switch! I honestly cannot believe the season is very near.. its like the calm before the storm. Once again I'll be hunting all over the midwestern states of Illinois and Wisconsin. I'll be hunting (as of now) on about 3 entirely new pieces once again. But thats the way I like it.. with no pre-conceived notions of deer travel. Get in.. learn within a few days.. then hang on top of them.. then move on. I have high expectations once again this year. What are some of the expectations of your season gents..?? |
RE: 13-Official Team 13 Thread
Mike, wife's SUV??? Sounds good.
Right now I have no expectations. I need to start getting some better pics. I know that 10 is still out there and a couple other good bucks.I'll know more what to expect in about a month. This weekend I went up and a 3 hour ride turned into a 5.5 hour drive. With all the flooding they only had 1 road open to get up there. So I had to drive through this 1 little town with 1 stop light. It took 1.5 hrs to go 5 miles. When I got up to the light there was a cop standing there and he blurts out to me that this is the worst traffic he has ever seen. I yelled back at him "you lazy donut eating, fat ********** why don't you get out here and direct some traffic". His response "You can't talk to me that way." ME "F U" and drove off. Ihope Iget a ticket in the mail so I can meet him face to face and tell him how retarted he is again. Sorry back to the up north I saw 30+ deer 5 were bucks and 1 was past his ears. The down side is that we had 4 differant bears on film. No more corn until they are gone. We also hung 3 new stands and cut a trail to get to 2 of them. Those 2 are in an awesome location. I got a good feeling about those 2. The third 1 is more of a gun stand but could work in a pinch.I have about 6 more stands to play with so I hope to have it done by the end of July. |
RE: 13-Official Team 13 Thread
Mike - I've been watching a couple hunting videos here and there, and the juices are really starting to flow. Seeing all these racks growing in is really pouring gas on the fire, too.
I'll probably be spending 75% of my stand time in new areas, places that I located in shed season. The acorns will have to cooperate for the early sites to pay off, but there are a few spots that are pure funnel areas, and should be dynamite once we start transitioning into November. I'm focusing 100% on Ohio, only hunting PA on weekdays (if at all) - so my stands will be fresh every weekend. I've got a good stand rotation lined up, too. Danny - That's funny stuff right there! Note to self: Never ride anywhere with Dan. j/k Hey man, do you have any pictures of the inside of your camp? I'd like to check it out. That's quite a spread you've got up there. Al - you've got some nice looking areas there. Looks like it's a guessing game in the evenings - just trying to guess which bedding area the bucks are in, and which field they're heading toward. |
