RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Went out last night(3rd time). I thought since I saw a few deer last time from that stand(2nd), I'd go back to it. I had a good wind, it was nice out and finallycool. Well on my way out, I'm walking down a row of corn and spot this deer in front of me. It's about 50 yards and I can tell it is a baldy and looks to be a fawn. I'm thinking, I wonder how close I can get to it. I start sneaking towards it, I get about 15 feet away and the corn gets to short to get any closer. I see its a nub, so I stand up, the little guy looks at me with a corn cob in its mouth. He doesn't even react, I use predator fall grey camo, so it really doesn't blend in all that well with corn. I start walking towards him then he notices me and scampers off.
Forward......... I'm sitting in my stand for about 1 1/2 hours and hav'nt seen a deer, when I hear a deer running. I look over and here is a nice buck (10 point) running away. All I can think is he must of been bedded in the corn and heard and maybe saw me climb the tree..........Who knows.....screwed up on that one. Ended up seeing 5 bucks, 3 does and 2 nubs. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
At least you are see deer. I have been out three times and have yet to see a deer while on stand. I did see deer while walking to my stand on Wednesday night but once settled nothing but tree rats. Last night on the way home from work I saw deer in every field I looked in. I am not sure what had them moving but it sure was noice to see so many deer on their feet. I am heading out this evening to hunt hoping my luck changes for the better, I usually have dropped a doe by now. Oh well that is why they call it hunting. Good luck to you guys that are hunting this weekend. Hopefully we can get on the board soon these PA guys are killing us.

NEW61375,
Congrats on the buck!!!! And your right the ice has been broken. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New congrats on the buck, looks like a perfect shot. Thanks for breaking the ice, I hope this is a sign of things to come.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New, congrats on your buck! Looks like a great shot. Every buck counts, and hopefully a few more of us can put some inches on our total.
ALWAYS be proud of what you shoot! Good attitude and great job! |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New - Congrats on the shot. Hopefully we can start the point parade as the rut is starting to close in on us. Again, nice shot and buck.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it. To be honest I have been hunting a long time andhave takenloads of deerbut truthfully have not taken awhole lotof deer with my bow, so each one is still really cool for me. Between NC and VA I still have4 buck tags left so I still have a chance to hold out for a nice one during the rut(hopefully). Good luck to everyone else, I hope we all get some cold weather and great action.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Sorry about not posting score yet, they have been killing me at work(well, not really). I'll get it done asap.

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Went out this morning for early doe onlyrifle hunt here in Pa. Ended up taking a nice doe now i can really concentrate my efforts on a buck with the bow.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Hey guys how was the weekend hunting? I haven't heard of any success stories so I assume it went the same as mine. it is still very warm here, was in the 80's both Sat and Sun.
I went out sat morning and about 8:30 decided to rattle lightly just to see what would happen. Within 5 minutes I had a 1.5 old buck come in to within 15 yeards to see what was going on. He was not a shooter but it was nice to see a buck and one interested in rattling. Few more days things should be getting pretty good and hopefully the big boys will be crusing around for the first does. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
We just got done with our CWD early gun hunt. I did not even take my rifle out. Friday and Saturday the wife and I went and sat at my lease. First time it was hunted all year, the first night we saw 2 bucks and a 6 does. Being her first year gun hunting, I thought she would shoot any buck. I told her she could use my buck tag.(party hunting is legal in Wisconsin) She passed on an easy shot at a 4 point the first night, and the second night she passed on a 7 point. She did shoot a doe on Saturday......Now she has her own buck tag for the regular gun season.
Time to gear up for bowhunting now, probably going out in the morning, since I have off. Good Luck to all! |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Was out again tonight with no sightings again. It's been a tough season with only 5 deer being sighted all year so far and that was all in one evening. Going to keep hitting it hard and hope I get some luck. Going to start hunting the private land end of this week or next week so im excited. We're due to put some more " on the board here soon!
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
No luck yet for us Wisconsin boys. I had a 125-130 class 8 eight pointer 25 yards away tonite but couldn't get a shot. Hoping for something a little bigger. Heading up to Trempealeau/Buffalo county tomorrow so I'll keep you guys informed.

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
All I can say is sorry guys. Pics to come.
Good luck to everyone, I can't wait to get back in the woods the action is getting hot around here. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
No need to be sorry New. I think we all have been struggling so far this season. Things here in southern Indiana are starting to heat up. I saw two bucks chasing a doe saturday morning. Both bucks presented me with shots but both of them together would have scored maybe 60". I am by no means a trophy hunter but I can't take a 1 year old fork horn. I scouted a spot this afternoon where there was a scrape line hit hard. Looked like the scrapes were just opened up today. I have two weeks off after this week which I hope will pay off. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming weeks.

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Here he is guys. Taken Saturday, October 27 on the Eastern Shore.
![]() Here is a link to the story in the bowhunting thread. Raindrops Were Fallin' On My Head...... |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New why are you sorry?!? that is a very nice buck, if he walked by my stand I would have stuck him. Congrats!!!!
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
I'm not sorry I shot him, I just wish you could enter your second buck for the team score. It was one of the best hunts I've had in a while and I can't wait to get back out.The woods are smoking right now around here.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New I had forgotten about your first buck until after I had made the post. Anyway you are right the woods are heating up, I wish I could be out but I have to work, next week I am on vacation can't wait. What did your second buck score, 125 130 ish???
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Nice buck New. Don't feel bad about anything, you put points on the board for us. As you can see not too many of us have. I don't want to steal his thunder but rumor has it Pybuckhunter has a one for the contest. Since he's my brother I can say this - Shouldn't a guy that has the name Pybuckhunter shoot a pope and young buck?
Don't worry, I have vacation starting Nov 1st so hopefully I'll be able to give us a little more. I better shoot one now..............................talk to you guys soon. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Hewon't net pope but he's real close to my 130 gross standard, I might have to eat a little crow, for I have him preliminary scored around 128. He came in fast chasing a doe, didn't have alot of time to look him over. So here is the pic. I'll post the story and the scorecard when I get some time. Cutting him up right now. zs93 has been bugging me to post it, even though I don't have time to tell everyonehowI shot a buck and my first ever fox with the bow on the same day. Shot on 10-28-07.....9:30 a.m ![]() |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Activity is really picking up around here finally. Harvested a nice doe saturday night so now im all tagged out on does for the year and i am really concentrating on some horns. I have yet to sight a buck this year but i have 2 weeks of season left so it can happen. I feel good fellas. I have to say I'm a believer in rage broadheads the hole they made was totally unreal. My first shot somehow the doe jumped and twisted and i caught here right in the noggin. She flopped around laid there for10minutes than got up staggered out to 25ydstood there swaying so i stuck one through the cage and it was all over in 5 seconds. I'll be out again tomorrow. Good luck fellas!

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Nice buck PYbuckhunter!! Those forks on his G2's look sweet. I really hate being at work right now with all of this action heating up. Driving in this morning it was 34 degrees, I wanted to turn around like you would not believe.

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
First half ofthe story..... As the morning started,I thought I would have a bad day. I had the alarm set for0530, season opens at 0700. Alarm goes off at the right time, Itake my shower, get on my under clothes, get some cereal and sit down to watch the weather channel. I take a couple bits of my cereal and glance out the window. I'm like wait a minute, it's starting to get light out. I look up at the clock in the living room and itshows 0655, somehow the alarm clock got set back an hour. Well out the door I go, thinking what stand canI hunt that the wind would be good and also is not to far from the road. Got the perfect stand (shot a P&Y out of it in 2002). By the time I'm up in my stand, its already been light for 45 minutes. Low and behold after just 10 min. a buck is off to my left, then another and another. There is 4 total, all 1 1/2 year olds. They start to spare with each other, and mill around, but they stay in the same general area. I'm thinking to myself there has to be a hot doe over that way somewhere. This goes on until about 0930 when I hear this deep grunt come from that area. Here comes the doe running for her life, then here comes this buck chasing her. I could tell he was nice, but I didn't know exactly. I pulled back as he was running past me and made a grunt, then a louder one. He stopped at about 23 yards quartering away, I still didn't know exactly what he was, butI knew he was close to being what I'mlooking for. I shot and he ran 20 yards and fell over. Made a great shot, I'm proud offthat, went in right behind shoulder and came out in front off leg, complete pass thru. He didn't grow any bigger on the ground, but he is a nice deer and I'm happy I got him.
I posted him on the scorecard at 128 6/8 He is the buck that I had on camera, and I posted it on here earlier. I have some things to do right now, so the second half of the story will have to wait! |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Great buck pybuckhunter!!!! I can't wait until this weekend. I am on vaction starting Friday and plan to be in the woods everyday. I hope I am able to connect on a nice buck as well.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
New, did you score your first buck yet? also what did your second buck score, was a dnady I loved that rack.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Yeah I scored the first one. A whopping 41 1/8";). I have not measured the second one, my hunting buddy is putting it on a plaque for me so he will probably measure it as well (insert shameless plug here: www.rackplaques.com). The website is relatively new so it might have a few bugs and I know he plans on updating with more pics.
I really have little experience measuring, the only two deer I have ever measured were for last years contest and this years. |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Congrats pybuckhunter!!! Great buck.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Second half.....I go out for the evening hunt to a tree that I shot a coyote last year, but did not find him. So I'm looking for a doe to get my earn a buck sticker.A doe and two fawns almost come close enough, but can't get a shot. So it's getting close to prime time, and I see some movement down the highline cut. About 100 yards, I put the binos up and there are two foxes jumping around. Well I don't see foxes very often, and have never had the chance to shoot one.So I think it's cool to watch them playing around, then they start coming my way. The first one runs by my tree, I can't get a shot. Here comes the second one, he gets in my lane and I make a squeaking sound. Perfect, he stops I let fly, right under him. He takes off running into the woods, right by my tree. WOW, I blew that! Then I hear the first one coming back, I pull back, he walks in a shooting lane that is only 10 yards. Again I make a squeak, he stops and I smack him right in the back. Drops on the spot. After 24 years of bowhunting and never getting a shotat one, then on one night I get two shots. Unbelievable

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Congrats on the buck. Looks like we are starting to climb the board just a little bit. Hopefully we can put a few big one's on the board in the next couple weeks to get us up there.
NEW - Is there a reason Rob hasn't put your deer on the final standing page? I see we currently only have PY's on there??? |
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
He sent me a pm telling me how to take a couple more H measurements, as I only had 1 or 2 originally. I have since added them, it didn't change the score much but it added a couple of inches he will probably be updating it soon.
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Congrats Deerslayer, nice buck. I've been out a few times since my buck kill, can not get a doe to come in close enough. Had one nice 120" 8 walk by me though. Have not seen much rutting activity, must be in the wrong area.

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Shot this buck on Oct. 13th,just getting around to adding to our score.I have been doping up a mock scrape(with urine right from source:me) in one of my better hunting locations, and have been getting some good results, regarding activity at the scrape, evidenced by my trail cam photos. This buck had been hitting the scrape pretty regularly since I started it.So this morning being the first cool day since the heat wave departed I decided to hunt this stand and see what was going on.When I arrived at my stand at 0600 hrs.,it was perfect outside;42 degrees and crystal clear with hardly any wind.At about 0710 hrs. I saw a small buck working along a ridge about 70 yards away.I was watching this deer for several minutes when I started hearing ground noise coming from my right. As I turned to identify the source of the noise,I noticed this 8 pt.working a scrape right next to the mock scrape that I had made.Right when I saw this deer I identified it as the 8 pt. from my trail cam pics. The deer was about 15 yards away with its vitals covered by some small saplings. After working the scrape over the deer started focusing its attention on the smaller buck on the ridge. This gave me the chance to grab my bow from its' hook and get ready for a possible shot. After several seconds the buck continued forward and stopped at 10 yards, now with a tree blocking its vitals.Knowing that this wouldn't last long,I came to full draw and waited for the buck to step forward.Several seconds later the deer did just that, offering me a perfect broadside shot.At the shot the buck mule kicked and started on its inevitable death run.In the process it fell to the ground 3 times before cresting a hill and tipping over.Total distance traveled was 45 yards. The arrow entered the deer perfectly on its left side cutting through a rib, both lungs and the heart before breaking the right leg bone on exiting that side. The rear 1/3 rd of the arrow remained in the deer with the front portion snapping off as the deer ran.The short blood trail was hard to follow with all the red spotted maple leaves lying on the ground.I shot the deer with my '06 Pearson Steath 67 lbs.@29".My arrows are 250 CX Maxima hunters with 3" sheild cut Trueflight feathers tipped with 100 gr. Silver Flame broadheads.Total weight is 366 grains.Arrow speed is 298 fps.The buck is a 20"wide 8 pt. weighing in at 184 lbs. dressed.I've been seeing quite a few deer at this location(lots of bucks),including a big P&Y class 8 pt.that I hope comes into bow range soon enough.the season should only get better from here on......I hope.[/align]

RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Good job Rutt, congrats on that nice buck! Well we have 4 down. How's the hunting going guys (mert & densfbs).
|
RE: 14- Official Team Buck Wild Thread
Going to have to wait until late season for me. Just got back from vacation and it doesn't look like I will get out before the gun opener.
Didn't see a whole lot of activity early in the vacation but it looked like it was starting to heat up. Passed up a 120-125 inch 8 pointer this morning but other than that not much happening. Hope some other guys have better luck. Keep putting some bucks on the board and hopefully I will be able to contribute come December. Also, nice buck Rutt! |
