RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Not much luck here. Saw nothing yesterday morning. Was a bit windy at noon but decided to go anyway (following the example of our cap'n ). Was in my stand for about an hour when I heard some distant rumble. Out here in the middle of nowhere you can here things for miles so I wasn't too concerned. Before you know it the rumble wasn't so distant anymore. Called the wife quick to check the radar and she advised me I'd better get home. My bow just touched the ground as the first rain drops started. As I was unhooking my harness from the tree the lightning began. The wind hasn't stopped since but is supposed to stop by tomorrow. Going to move a stand today and setup a hang on I bought over the weekend.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Got up in my stand at two this afternoon. After I tightened my harness I look over to my right and there is a nice 6 point watching me[:@] Not sure how long he was there so I freeze to see what happens. He mills around for about 40 minutes working his way about 90 degrees around me glancing my way the whole time. Eventually he walked up the hill and disappeared. Good thing cause my bow was laying on the ground attached to my hoist rope. I think I have a pic of him from last year. It was the first pic after putting my camera up.
I got my stands repositioned and am real excited about one. After putting it up I was walking off some yardages and 50 yards to my left are 5 does. I was down wind and it was blowing so hard they didn't know I was there. I ducked down and hopped back into the woods and went home. Maybe tomorrow will be the day;) |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Made it out at 10:00 AM
I had a big buck from 11:00 AM until 5:07 35 yds bedded down. Could barley see his G2 and 3. No dice he went the other way. Back at all day in the morning. Jeff Nice Job again |

I heard the turkeys fly down again this morning, but they went the other way. I had a doe and 2 button bucks walk by at 8:00 this morning. Not shooting does right now!:)I jumped the flock of turkeys on my way back to the truck. They went everywhere.
I went to the other end of the woods and got in my stand at 1:20. At 2:00 I saw 2 deer move thru some thick brush, not sure what they were. ThenI hear the turkeys calling trying to get back together. I am about 50 yards off of the field and just before dark I could see a doe walking along the woods on the edge of the field. Then it happened again.[:o]Right when I started to climb down, the COYOTES light up maybe 50 yards away. And one of those guys has a howl like a wolf. I spent a few extra minutes in my stand. Definately gonna try and thin those guys out this winter after deer season. I am still not seeing any chasing going on. All of the bucks have been by themselves and the does still have last years fawns with them. It has to happen soon!! No hunting tomorrow.I have a couple of appointments I have to take care of.And gotta take the boat to get winterized. |

Lebeau
Hey bud ,you don't know me but that's what this contest is albout, suport and freindships. Well Shed knows me and has hunted with me.My word is my word and that's from God. Last Saturday night I shot a 190 plus buck I have been hunting for 4 years now, that arrow went into the fletching.I haven't hunted this standall season cause of the wind and it was right for themy 1st chance. He came out right at dark at 17yards where he always come from.Well mostly:D. I draw, wait till he clears the willows, he stops and smells the scrap I just made before I got on stand and let go. He ran out 30 yards turns broadside and walks back to the fence. Hops the fence, all the time lookingin my direction and starts walking towards me. Dang I grab another arrow then he took off on his death run with all the same crashing ,then dead silence. Yeah I say to myself and get down and go get my partner 70 yards away. Get changed and come back topick up the trail, no arrow as it's in him but find shaved hair ,a 2 inch tuft then walk to the fence where he jumped and find lots of blood ,dark red. We follow a great blood trail for 70 yards ,then it disapears. We decide to come back the next morning. Yote's will eat a buck in 5 hours up here.I obviously didn't sleep Saturday nightand Sunday we were 3 strong, with the best tracker Alberta has. We got to where we left of the night before again. Well for the next 2 days we scoured the area on our hands and knees for 60 yards from the last drop ,in every direction, nothing . So I do know how you feel, specially since I had this bucks last 3 years sheds and spent numourus hours glassing him. I wanted to quit and forget the season, but my team picked me up and I was back out 3 nights later and am happy I did. So I know in my heart, you will be better on stand then behind a desk wondering if you should be afield. Hope you stick with it Lebeau and maybe ,just maybe a wall hanger will present you with the broadside shot you wish for. Faith,is a big word and God has granted us that, don't give up. Oh ,bye the way I had the farmer keep an eye out for birds scavenging and we walked every inch of the 40 ACRES. I also went their last night to hunt again.Surprised after all the trashing of the bush their were still deer there. Good luck with the rest of the season and don't forget that safety belt. God Bless.Rocky PS I know this doesn't take away the pain, but hopefully it'll be an insperation for you to get back at er ![]() |

Hey guys....Sorry I haven't posted in a few days.
BEEN BUSY!;) I took a buck I've been after for 3 yrs. (in case you missed it....lol). I could NOT be any happier or fulfilled as a hunter....as I am right now. He's no brute by many people's standards, but he's a "BULL" campared to other deer, here in my woods (especially body-wise). Here's a photo of him - |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Congrats Jeff way to go

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
LebeauHunter I know how you feel!!! Get back out and get right on them! Ive been there before, I did not like that feeling either! A little time will help.
I have to say CONGRATS to GMMAT on the nice buck he shot WAY TO GO!!!! Story? I want to hear! You put one more on the board for us!!!! Every one is putting something down and I am feeling a little left out. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Only one counts, huntinlady....and it's the first one. I have no regrets. It's been a great year (now). Good luck in all of your seasons.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
checking in..
Rocky...dang man, an Alberta 190 buck and you didnt find him, I'd be looking for the next two months! Real sorry to hear of your misfortune. Will, come onbro, keep after it, we need some bone on the board..we are falling way behind! :Dnaw do it for your own good, it will pay off. Jeff, again great job, fine deer you killed there. Real cool you had so much time and effort invested and it payed off. Ok, last night I hiked into a bedding area, made a quick ground blind (perfect) set up for the wind and bedding area direction. I tried rattling for the first time this year. I didnt see a whitetail but had a cow and calf elk come down behind me off the ridge about 30-40 yards.. Very nice evening out on the ground. Its only a matter of time before the bucks here will start moving.. They are really laying low and again we had unseasonably warm weather. Tis suppose to cool off this weekend. Its raining hard today. I cant hunt tonight, have a school meeting. Will hunt tomorrow. Good luck everyone, lets get a few more on the ground! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Congrats GMMAT, that may very well be the king of your woods. That would be a nice buck in my area.
You are really sticking it to em now. John, I have a feeling you are gonna report one soon. Sounds like a great area you are hunting. Hey guys, thanks for the support, especially you youngfart. Don't "worry your pretty little head" Germ, I'm not out of the bowhunting game, just ticked off. Knowing I was probably 2" off on either shot from a likely clean kill is still haunting me, but I am gonna mount up, saddle up, or nut up, whatever your preferred phrase.[8D] For my dad's sake and family traditions and all I will probably gun hunt late November (Thanksgiving). Contrary to most areas of the country, this is not the rut here. We have one of the latest documented ruts in Louisiana - usually not till the last week of December or first week of January. In fact, if not cold November can be slow b/c it is just like October except the deer are feeling the pressure. Depending on my mood, setups, wind, etc., I will probably alternate bow/rifle going forward (a lot of our stands are set up as rifle stands). January has been an excellent month out there, unlike in a lot of places. So maybe I will throw some horn down late. BTW Germ, LSU is gonna keep the "Hat," a/k/a "Lesticles" |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Here are some pics from my creek bottom stand, where I saw the big 7 pointer Monday night. I believe it goes right, center, left, and behind me where he came from, out of the creek. It is really thick along the creek. Three ridges dump into this area and the deer use them to get up to the crop fields and back down to the creek to bed.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I saw this little guy yesterday morning. Not quite enough bone.:DHe needs a few more years. ![]() |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Good looking spot there John.
Well, today was almost the day [:@] "The twins" came by my new setup today at about one. I had just stood up after sitting for a bit. I glanced over my right shoulder and there was one of them closing fast. I slowly picked up my bow and started to turn around. She's at ten yards but hugging the pushed down trees and I have no shot. As she works down the tree line her sister starts my way. Now the first one has come through a break in the trees and is heading right toward my tree. As she is literally hanging out under my tree her sister is now standing perfectly broadside staring at my 3d target 135 yards away. She was at about 25 yrds. Which at this point is at the edge of my comfortable shooting distance. She stood there forever ! I had been in my stand for about 3 hrs at this point. Between my feet freezing, nervous about the one under my tree (shaking a bit from these two) and the shooter at the edge of my range I passed on the shot. I'm getting close though. They were does but it would have been my first ! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Hey guys
Captain is tired, LOL I have logged a ton of hours. I had deer in front of me all day, no bucks worth looking twice at. Scrapes are way down, rubs are down, I have seen zero chasing. When I see a mature deer 1 only lately he has a doe. I have to do work for my daughters school on Thursday, but I will be in the woods all day ever hour until the 15th. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Well I did happen to see a few deer over the last few days. I did have a small 4 pointer at 10 yards but I didnt shoot him. He may have weighed 125lbs. But he was a 1.5 yr old and he needed to grow. Hopefully I can connect real soon. This One buck rule here in Indiana has made me be real picky...

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I saw a tank of a deer tonight, the body was huge, I am not sure what the rack looked like. He was on the other side of some hard maple trees that still have their leaves. I would catch a glimpse of him now and then, and I was impressed with his body. Also saw a 1/2 rack 2.5 year old. They are starting to chase does big time.
My taxi buddy killed 2 bucks in the last 2 days. The first scored 130 1/8 and the second scored 144 5/8. I'll get a pic up later. I found a dead buck in the woods today. The coyotes pretty much took care of the meat. I cut his head off and may put the rack on another cape. He was a descent 10 point, fairly wide but real short tines. I don't feel like messing with the pics tonight. I'll get them later. Back at it all day tomorrow! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
all day.. for me tomorrow.....filming this one. found a new buck to hunt..
John, matter of time bud, hey I still need to get that package out.. you like spicy alder flavor or mild hickory.. little snack package for you.. let me know.. Good luck everyone on the team! Jeff, Lisa, have a blast at the football game! sounds like a great time... Troy |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
What a day, not one ****ing buck
Sorry for the profanity, had to be said:D All day again tomorrow |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Well, all hell broke loose in my woods. I saw 11 different bucks this morning and 5 does.7 of those were after 1 doe, she must have really been SPECIAL!!:DI had a 150-160,10 pointat 30-35 yards but it was thru a ton of branches from the cottonwood tree I was sitting in. Those branches are gone now.(A day too late tho) He was supposed to come on the other side of the tree. I had the same spike in front of me at 2 different setups. Once at 10 yards and the other at 22 yards. I have some pics to post, but am too tired. I will catch up and post them soon.I will be back in the same morning stand tomorrow. Taking my 3D target to use as a decoy. That may have helped this morning.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Keep at it Germ, you will have your chance soon. Just about when you cant take it anymore, something will happen.... Keep at it and good luck
Mark |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Germ, man, your putting in serious time.
But I guess sitting in a stand is preferable to watching that game you guys played today. I know a lot about spending tons of time in a stand and not shooting a big buck so I won't give you any advice. :D But I have faith in my El Capitan. John, sounds like you are smothered and covered, but being disciplined - it's just a matter of time. Troy, that's dedication. Stretch down and pick right up on the next challenge. Rob, sounds like you are getting into it. You will probably shake less next time. Deep breaths. :D Earlier this year when I had three coming in, I had to pull my mask down off my mouth cause it was mkaing me start to hyperventilate. Thin posting from me, the deer are safe from injury this weekend cause I've been Mr. Handy Man - painting, caulking, fixing toilets, etc., - I'm trying to get points stored up to get out there next weekend. We'll see. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I hate Llyod Carr:D Miles to Michigan Baby[8D] Will I was into deer from 12:00 to Dark. I had around 16 deer, no mature deer. Back to bed and will giver her a go in the morning |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
No sleep for me tonight!!![:@]
I hit a big buck tonight at last light. I don't know any details on the rack, it happened so fast. I just know he is big enough, dark, heavy horns. I had been watching a doe and fawn for a while and they had worked their way past me and out of sight. I was just going to get my stuff ready to climb down, when I hear something coming. I look back and i see a huge body coming thru the woods with a heavy dark rack. I grab my bow and start looking where I can stop him. I stop him at about 20 yards. I am trying to find my pins in my peep. I get everything lined up and touch off the release. I see the arrow hit his body, maybe a little back. He runs off 50 yards and stops. He is looking back and I am getting another arrow. He takes off again and I can hear him running. Then I don't hear anything for a bit. I hear what sounds like a crash, but no thrashing. Then after a few seconds a deer starts blowing up there, about 10-12 times. Last year I shot a doe with fawns and they followed her into the woods. When she fell they started to blow. I hope that is a good sign. I went back to my truck for a good light. The arrow is covered with red blood, but it has a strong smell to it also. I found blood at the point of impact and followed it for 20 or so yards just to see what it looks like. Dark red splotches some as big as a quarter and easy to follow with my flashlight. I didn't see any food on my arrow or the ground.I left after that and am going back in the morning to find him.We are thinking a liver hit. I am using the 2 blade rage, so he has a big hole in him. I know he will not survive the hit, I just have to find him. The guy that lives on the farm has a little dog that has trailed a couple for him before. I hope we don't need him, but that is an option. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Allright John.
![]() Pass-through with rage 2" should leave a nice blood trail. It's tough waiting! Sound like you will get him and have him gutted in time for a big breakfast. It's nice to know you have the back-up of a dog if you need it. We are looking into getting one of those just due to #%#% bowhunting. My uncles rabbit dogs are so well trained they won't follow a deer and he doesn't want us teaching them to do it. I'll be looking for your post in the AM. TEAM CHAOS! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Good luck John. Can't wait to see the pics !
|
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I found right away this morning. He only went 75 yards. I have him rough scored at 142 2/8". I will do a better job once I have the rack off. The hit was almost perfect, but he was quartered to me a little. I got 1 lung, liver and exited thru the guts. That will help the team total. I will post more pics and a better story later.
