RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Knock knock...anyone home ?
I'm in the middle of two weeks of modern gun season here in KY. From what I understand you have to wear orange even bow hunting on private property. I'm not too good in just camo :D so I've not been out since last week. The week I took off to hunt didn't produce any kills but I learned a ton ! I am going through a bit of withdraw and I'm off all next week. I know it will drive me crazy not hunting, so I may end up putting on the orange and going out. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Go ahead and give it a go Rob. I have killed a couple of does with an orange vest on. They make us wear it during youth season and the special antlerless gun hunts they have here in MO.
If you can find an area the deer head to when the bullets start to fly, it just might work for you. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
That's what I am hoping for John. The 50+ acres around my house only I have permission to bow hunt. I hope they gather there for "safety" !

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I have had very good luck right after gun season on the farm I hunt in IL. Because it is one of the few in the area that noone gun hunts on.
Those deer figure that out pretty quick. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Rob,
If you're worried about it, get some orange with a pattern on it. No one knows for sure, but as I understand it deer are mostly colorblind and the orange won't stick out like it does to us. With some black in it like branches you should be able to create some contrast. I've known people that wear orange camo that have been successful. Having cover around you and not moving a lot would probably be more important. If you already have a vest, I would get a black permanent marker and put tree branches on it or something. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully the deer will feel safe in your 50 acres - until they meet the business end of your arrow. :D This thread isn't the same without Germ's pithy comments. :( |

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Hey guys back at work so I have some more time.
I am fine, my wife is having a lot of issues at work and needed my help. She has had to take over classes for a new teacher who is worthlessthat they hired. She is having issues with a student. Her parents are a real tool. Which explains why this girl will be asking "Do you want fries with that" for the rest of her life. In 11 years of teaching she has never had an issues. She is kind person that if you punch her in the face she will give you a hug. The woman does not have a mean bone in her body. The last few days I hunted I could tell something was wrong. So we sat down and had a talk. She needs some more help around the house. So I have been running th kids here and there and playing Mr. Mom. In 16 years I have know her this is the most stressed I have seen her. I can hunt until Feb 4th in Ohio, and will get out in Dec some. I hunted hard, but I made more mistakes this year than ever. I set one stand way to close to the bedding area and hunted it too soon. I ad two sets with not enough cover. I put 3 stands in the wrong location. I hunted hard enough to kill Mr. Mass, but I did not hunt smart enough. Even though I may fail this year in getting a buck. It has been my best year to date, I have learn so much this year. I am going to be better hunter even this late season because of it. I have a plan for the late season, if Mr. Mass makes it through the orange army I may have a shot in Dec. I will not get out much, but when I do I will make it count. Last day I hunted the bucks were really starting to move, Mr. Mass was seen coming out of the last corn field in the area and headed to our farm. I was hunting in the very back and seeing lots of deer. I seen 8 different bucks tha day, 115''+ 7 point. He came by me three times. I shot a doe that night and called it a season for the early one. I did not hunt the last three days. I stayed home and help out my wife. Gary |

Gary, this should be your keyring: :D The King would be proud.
![]() In case you guys are bored, here's a pick of a 5x5 taken off a game cam by one of our bow stands - that would be about a 20 yard shot right there (broadside - quartering slightly away) - looks like it might be right about first light. Any guesses on age? 3.5 years? Our deer are slow to develop nice racks, and based on his neck and all I'm thinking 4.5 years. I know you guys get sick of the scoring stuff, but if you want, throw it out. Got 2 views, side and front. I will be hunting the gun opener with my dad and brother this weekend. ![]() ![]() |
