Finally got out for a couple hours friday morning. saw about 13,all does except for one young 6 ptr. about 10 yards away. Watched him eat acorns for an hour. He'll be nice in a year or two. One tree was loaded with acorns. I think i'll be back there monday. Just watched the does to see what they normally did. Tucked away some good info. Hope everyone is enjoying the season.Sorry ducsauce, i guess your still waiting your season to start

Went out today and got my permits to hunt the Army base. I usually do well there...lots of deer. They've uped the bag limit to 2 does per day or 1 buck 1 doe per day. BUT...a two buck per year limit, of which, one antler must be 4 pts or better They started the antler restriction last year. Anywho, I was doing some scouting while I was there and when walking back to the Jeep, I was coming up to a Sawtooth Oak plantation. It sounded like hail with all the acorns falling. I spotted movement and glassed a doe about 40yds away. Then started hearing leaves rustling to my right, and there he was at 10yds a georgeous 8 pt, that I would guess to be in the 130 range. They couldn't hear me cause all the crunching on acorns. I had a perfect quartering away shot....oh yeah, Virginia's season doesn't open til Saturday! tick tick tick...

Sorry guys haven`t posted in awhile!
Its been hot here deer not moving as much as i would like but cooler is in the weather in the forcast for the weekend.
I have been seeing a few does but thats about it.
Sounds like some of you have been seeing some as well(Good)!
Maby it will not be much longer and someone from this team can put up some kind of score. Season is still early.
We will score soon!

Ok Guys...just got back from a 3 day trip. First morning saw major fog, could barely see the ground from my treestand let alone a deer. That evening I hunted over a stand of Sawtooth Oaks...spewing acorns. One of the first trees in our area that drop and the deer vacuum them up. Anyway, that evening I saw 13 deer including 2 eight points, a 6, a 5 and a 3. One of the 8's was one I saw last week when scouting. Here's the bad news, I took a shot at the other 8 AND MISSED!!!! Shot over him. I had previously ranged the exact spot where he stood at 27.5 yards and figured if I had a shot there I would place my 30yd pin at the bottom of the chest. Hunted there the next morning saw 5 does, that evening 2 does, next morning and evening ZERO deer. I guess I ruined my welcome for that area, or this mid 90 degree Virginia weather had something to do with it. I'll let it cool and try it again next week.
For the past 3 years I've missed the first deer of the season and all of them were 8 points. I should be good to go for the remainder of the season.
I'll probably get out again Tuesday.....Anybody anything?
