I posted the story over in the bowhunting forum so for you all who wanna read it venture over to the bowhunting forum :)

Hi guys, glad to see all of you are harvesting some nice deer. Sorry I havn't checked in for a while. I have been busy chasing ELK!! Our archery season ended on sunday, but we have areas that are still open until the last weekend in Nov. for deer. So I will shift my focus to deer now, and try to help out our team. My elk season was one for the books. Both good and bad. I had a 5 day pack in trip, and one evening we had three bulls come in with in 20 yards, I missed one right away, and immediatly after the shot there was another bull standing 7 yards away. I smoked him. We saw him go down, gave him 30 minutes, and went to retrieve him. We ended up bumping him, must have only single lunged him. Watched him bed again, and left him be since it was now dark. Went back the next morning to find him butchered. Some guys in another camp claimed him as his. We got into a couple of heated arguments, they wouldn't come follow our blood trail, so there was nothing we could do, short of beating the s%!* out of them and taking it. The shot was perfect, a passthrough, and I had the bloody arrow, they could furnish us no proof that it was theirs. Well a week after that I missed a big 6x6 twice, both times hitting a limb with my arrow. Then last weekend I missed a spike, I judged him at 40 yards and he was more like 50, it was so foggy it was hard to judge the distance. So needless to say I had a great year, and a horrible year. I didn't harvest an elk with my bow, that I got to keep anyway. Sorry to be so long winded. Good luck to all, and I hope to be on the board soon.

went out last nite seen a small 8 pointer a fawn and 2 does as the sun faded the woods got dark so i was waiting on a doe to leave then i was going to grunt at her to run her off there was still plenty of light in the field so i grunted she left and i started to get my gear together and here come a shooter 10 yards and cant shoot cant see the pins on my sight but he is heading to the field so i waited and then i could see the pins as he stood at the adge of the field so i put the 20 yard pin on him i took the shot heard the arrow thump then he went 30 yards down and circled back around behind me i keep waiting for him to go down he never does so when he crossed the creek i climb down find my arrow in a log just under where he was i cant beleive i missed i guess he was about 27 yards he never did see me ill have to get back in there in a couple days

Whew...this wind is making it tough, When did October become so windy in NE Ohio? Got out for the evening rock and roll in the tree last night. Didn't see anything, the wind never let up..sometimes just before dark it lets up and I get some activity, but not last night!
This weekend I can get in some morning hunts but family obligations will keep me out of the woods during the evenings. Next week I have a 3 Day hunt at our Camp in PA. Things should be starting to get good. We just need a break in the weather! |
