RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
I was climbing up a tree in a new location this afternoon (area has 110 acres of corn on west, and 100 some acres of cattails to the east, and about a 100 yard wide buffer strip between it *where my stand is*) and out steps a 5x5 on a very heavily worn trail 22 yards from me. He stood on the edge of the cattails for a few minutes then made his way into the corn field. I backed out of the area, and will go back tomorrow and finish hanging my stand (might put a ladder stand in its spot now so I can video easier). The buck was mid to upper 140s, and was around 20" inside spread. After I backed out I set up on a hill top and watched the area, 2 other bucks came out and around 15 does/fawns. There is just one line of trees bordering on the cattails and I will be putting 2 or more stands in the area for different wind directions.

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
Well not much action this past weekend on the Wisconsin Opener. Had a doe and fawn come in Saturday night. Doe was 6 yards from my tree and only had to take 2 more steps to clear the pine she was under. Well the fawn screwed that up when he got behind me and saw me as I reached for my bow....blew out of there and took mom with. Only saw one small buck and that was it. The acorn crop is poor this year which is a big reason the deer weren't moving through the oak ridge I hunt. The last few years the acorn crop was great....the groundis usuallycovered like a carpet with them...not this year. Worst opener I can remember... Last few years I was covered up with bucks on opening weekend. Hopefully that will change when the farmers knock their corn down and push the deer back into the woods. There is currently oceans of corn on the surrounding farms which usually hold deer this time of year. Well now I will concentrate on pegging down a good buck in the swamps around my house. Thank god for the ThermaCell....these things work great at repelling the skeeters otherwise there is no way I would go into the swamps until after a freeze.
Good luck! |

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
I went out duck an goose huntin this morning. We banged our limit in a heavy rain. Right now there is a a North wind at 25mph and its still raining, so I don't think I'm going to be sittin in my stand on opening day :( If it was a southerly wind I would be there for sure
|
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
Well, the wind switched a lil bit so I went an sat for 3 an a half hours in the stand tonite. Felt great being out with the bow in hand!
On my way into the stand (1 mile walk), I saw 2 does feeding on the edge of the corn field, and 1 buck. I slipped into my stand and just got situated when I had a doe walk out at 24 yards (I guessed the trail wrong earlier, thought it was 22 yards). It was very very very tempting to run her thru, but at this point I also had 4 different bucks about 150 yards away from me. I never saw the big 5x5 tonite, but there is a big 5x4 in this spot that is definately going to get shot if he comes close enuf. By the end of the nite I had 2 does go past me on the trail at 24 yards, 7 different bucks, and about 200 pheasants. We just got a lull in the rain this afternoon and I didn't get on stand early enuf, the deer had been bedded for probably 2 days waitin the rain out, so once it quit this afternoon I think they started moving. I got out of my stand before the bucks made their way back past my stand to their bedding location. Will probably go sit if the wind is right starting at 3 or so tomorrow afternoon. Going to shoot ducks an geese again in the AM with a few buddies. |
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
well congrats are these whtetails or muleys rammer just curious well i went yesterday and saw a big 0 but i gotta go set up my satnd in stead of a blind so i can see down the ridge
|
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
These were all whitetails. The wind is perfect today. Going to go sit around 3:30 or 4'ish so I beat the movement tonite. One of my buddies stuck a doe this morning, now I really have the bug....

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
saw my biggun today but got winded by a doe will not return until tuesday

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
So I got some BAD news........My hotspot (I've been hunting this spot since I was 12), got invaded yesterday by another archer. The dumb*** hung a treestand in there last nite an hunted it last nite. This evening I was in my stand and he shows up on the north end of the property in his pickup, parks in plain site of the feeding area, bedding area, water.......walks to the trees and gets in his stand. In the process he kicked out probably 20 deer. What really makes me mad is this guy is the luckiest hunter I know, he shoots a P&Y buck every year, but never recovers a deer for a good day to day an half, and I'm usually the one that tracks 'em down and kills them for him. So I went an talked to the landowner after dark, and he goes "ya he stopped in yesterday after he saw a monster in there and asked to hunt, have you seen that big buck yet?". MAD
So now I have added pressure in my spot, added scent, I thought I only had this problem when hunting public ground and now its just about on my doorstep [:@] |

Way to go on a great buck! That is definately a unique racked deer.
I sat in my stand last nite and had 2 raccoons climb up with me, and 6 more waddled by. Only critters in range last nite :( |
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
Congrats Hillbilly on a nice buck. I'll see if I can help the team out any this weekend.

|
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
So anyone had any luck? I've been busy as a MoFo combining corn/soybeans. Its sprinkling real lightly out tonite, so tomorrow evening I am planning on sitting in my stand if the 40mph wind dies down a ways. Saw a really nice 5x5 today on the edge of one of my soybean/corn fields. He was pretty wide, real good height, but lacked in mass. Still a 140s deer though. I knew I carried binocluars in the combine for a reason :D

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
"Nocked-down" a doe this evening. The new Trykon decided it was time for her to lose her V card ;)
I got in my stand around 4:30 this afternoon. I forgot my cell phone in my pickup (I don't have a watch so this is the only way I can tell time), and I'd imagine I was there for a half hour or so when I heard movement in the cattails northeast of my stand. Pretty soon a doe came towards my stand with 2 fawns playing around her. They were eating leafs off a tree about 16 yards from my stand (no shot opportunity due to trees), and for some reason they decided not to go down the trail that would put them about 12 yards from my stand, and they started back into the slough. I got turned around on my stand and I had about a 6" hole to shoot thru. The doe decided it was time to take a #2 and I pulled on her. I figured the shot was 35-40 yards and I had my 30yard pin high on her and the 40 yard pin about 5" up from her brisket and I let it fly. Arrow hit true and she fell over after about 5 yards and then got up an went about 65-70 yards and expired. The Muzzy MX-4s did a wonderful job, best blood trail from a fixed head that I have ever seen. She was a very large doe, I'm guessing 180-200lbs almost. When I went to where she was standing when I shot, I lasered my treestand and it was 42 yards. Trykon did its job! Now, I just need a buck to come within range....I'll post up some pics once I get them off my camera. ![]() |
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
Must of been the night for team knockdown. I also shot a doe tonight!!

RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
ILL Buck - Way to slaughter does :DOne of these days we'll have the antlered species with points everywhere walk past the stand :)
Its raining hard and going to supposedly switch to snow tonite. I might be in my stand early in the AM to see how this weather affects the deer movement. See if I feel like driving semi or hunting in the AM anyway LOL |
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread

|
RE: 35- Team "Nockdown" Official Thread
One down. Been hunting for the big one I got on camera this August and have seen him twice, but no shot. This past weekend it opened in WV, and I saw three nice bucks Sat. morning. Sat. evening this one came in, and I didn't want to drive the 8 hour round trip and go home with nothin, so I shot him...6 yards. Not the big one I wanted...yet, I still have a WV tag and a PA tag, so I'll keep hunting. I'll score it and enter it for our team here in the next day.
