RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hey Slayer,Deeranged is just a little fun play with the word deranged changed to deeranged to give the impression of a big crazed buck. Found this avatar on the browsing the net. Sent it to ryan who is the guy who is making all the cool avatars for people and teams. It may be too big but I am hoping if its okay withyou all,he could resize it and add our team nameand number to it.He wants us to visit his friends site, register and possibly enter a picture in their contest as a payback for making us an avatar. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1672242 heres the link to his message. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Whoa guys....we slipped to the very bottom of the second page...not good. Anyways....it looks like we have a name and a captain.
When does everyones season start? I know the PA season starts to 30th..so thats like half our team...but when does everyone elses seasons start? How is everyone coming along with getting their bows tuned up and ready to go? Mine is pretty good...I need to tinker a little more and get my prefered broadhead/arrow combos figured out...but that won't be too bad. Anything else exciting going on with anyone? |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
bows dialed in went to a 3-d shoot yesterday for a little practice and was pleased with my score. Going to throw some broadheads on this week and practice a little. Going to go sit tonight and do a little glassing the time is coming near. The bucks are ripping the velvet off. I'm still seeing them in bachelor groups though. Went spotting last night and saw 12bucks that really got the blood flowing.
What's everyone looking to score on this year? First buck that gives you the opportunity or you fella's all waiting for a big boy? Me personaly i'm going to try to take the first one that gives me a opportunity. I'm proud of all of them. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
went and watched tonight fellas and saw 3 bucks and 4 does all the bucks tonight were rubbed clean. I'm going in the woods tomorrow afternoon to check out some rubs i'll take my digital camera with me and take a couple snapshots if i find any big rubs. I got hunting fever!!!!!

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
The season starts here in Va. on Oct. 7th . The bow is dialed in I have been shooting 4 inch groups at 40 yards. Going to do some scouting on a new farm i am hunting this year over the weekend. Hopefully I can get the 8 pointer I passed up last year due to lack of mass. If he made it through the gun season last year.

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hey guys,
Wow, I have been very busy, but in the little spare time I have had I have been out scouting and getting prepared for season to kick off Sept. 30th. The bucks are out of velvet here, saw 14 bucks spotting on the farm on Sunday night. A few nice 8 points and a main frame 9 point with a split G-2 making him a pretty decent 10 point. The big guys are hanging low now and seemed to have just vanished. I still have a good idea where they are but I am avoiding going near that area till the time is right, the last thing I want to do is push them out of this small piece of property! I did see one of the big 8 points and he already smashed up his rack, he broke about 8" of main beam off. The bow is dialed in and shooting as good as ever, she is just itching to taste some blood :D As far as what I am looking to score on this year, that all depends.... I want a big racked buck, but the animal being mature is more important to me than the rack. I am hoping for a buck that will gross 130" or better, but if I got a nice 120" in range and the BowTech tells me to let her rip then a arrows gettin flung :D |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I just did this to get us off the back page again.Still three weeks till the season starts here so not much to write about. Its cooling off and the deer are starting to move alittle more.I don,t scout much becauseI hunt my own land.My stands are in place and now its just a waiting game.
Good luck and hunt safely Jim |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I shot this evening also. And now I have to go get 3 of my arrows
re-fletched tomorrow:D. And that was shooting from 30 yards ........... Tight groups baby tight groups. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hey what do you guys think???
![]() |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I had the OG out this evening, she is shooting sweet out to 50 yards, didn't want to step back any further as my arms were getting tired. I moved my game cam today as well (ended up stepping on a underground yellow jackets nest while doing so and got the back of my legs beat up pretty bad by those buggers).
I like the logo, kinda how I feel after some of these pa bruisers beat me up last year haha |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Wow, summer has gone by fast. I've been super busy lately doing stuff for school. I put it all off during summer and now these last two weeks have been a pain....gotta get it all done by Monday. Once thats over with though, it should be smooth sailing.
Anyways, onto the good stuff: My bow: Still work to be done...my broadheads are flying close to my field tips, but not close enough for me to be happy. I spent the other night spinning arrow broadhead combinations to get the best matches, so now that that is done, I can hopefully get it to work out. Then its just going to be continuing to practice to keep my muscles ready. We put up a new cabin this summer on my grandpa's property so getting that up and going has taken a lot of time away from scouting. Its ok though, I still managed to get out and I have some pretty good ideas of places to hunt on the new land I acquired to hunt. My dad and I are actually heading out there tonight to set up stands and get them all primed for the opener. I think I've got a good idea of the trails they use between bedding and feeding, so hopefully I can catch them within range. No recent scouting camera pics. I've been having some bad luck with it lately, very few pics. Hopefully there will be some on it when I check it tonight. I can't wait for archery to get here! I even designed my schedule this year to give me more chances to hunt. I have dual enrolement, meaning I take both High School and College classes. College classes are Tues and Thurs morning from 8-1045, then High school is everyday 11-230. So on Mon, Wed, Fri I don't have to be at school until 11am...meaning I can hunt the mornings!! YAY! I've never had the oppurtunity to hunt mornings besides saturdays...so hopefully I will have some success there. Then again after school I can hunt on the days I don't have to work. I plan on spending a lot of time out in the woods this fall. Should be a great time...like always:D Well I think I've rambled enough....back to the school work. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Back from camp...lots of good news. We got two stands set up....still have 1-2 more to do, but we hope to get them set up soon. I was really excited about...then I check the camera which is set up about 20yds from the stand. I got pics ofthe one buck I've been getting pics of all summer. He's lost his velvet now...looking good!
Then walking back out of the woods I saw a doe with twins who are out in the corn/soybeans almost nightly. I CAN'T WAIT!! ![]() |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
He's not huge by any means...but he's legal...and he'd be my biggest....so I would absolutely love the chance at him this fall!

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I'm getting waaay too excited. This month is entirely too long. Last weekend we(me& hazcon7)hung two stands and placed a trail camera and picked out a couple of spots for a ground blind for my 10 year old's first hunt (gun hunt, oct.7 youth firearm also happens to be his birthday).
I spent the weekend before last at his hunter safety school. I can't wait for opening day, but frankly I'm more pumped about the boy's hunt. I took him on a couple of hunts last year as an observer, and it was fun, but this year he's the shooter and this location is waaaaaaay better than anywhere I took him last year. I'm still wrestling with where to hunt opening day. Me and hazcon7 have hunted the same location on opening day for several years, and at least one of us has scored on opening day for the last 5 or so years. It's public land, and the action is only really good on opening day, and during the rut (because of the pressure). But the our other spot holds more mature bucks....like 160"+ conservatively. Big antlers are nice, but my freezer is empty. I'll try to upload a pic of the little buck from opening day last year. Not big by anyone's book, but it was a great hunt and hazcon7 was standing in the same tree with me when I shot it.... it was an awesome thing to share with my #1 hunting buddy...OK, my #1 adult hunting buddy[&:] |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
442....Man...you had me for a second! I thought you got one for this year....LOL. Thats a nice looking buck! Congrats on him!

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Well guys, I got some good news.... today I decided to move my Cuddeback and set it on the trail that leads to my new stand I set-up a few weeks ago. The trail I set it on is being HEAVILY used as it crosses small swamps and heads along the edge of a crab apple thicket where my hang-on is set-up. There were some big tracks in the area and everything looked great so I put the camera on a tree and went to my stand. When I climbed up and sat down I saw a fresh rub right in one of my shooting lanes about 25 yards out. I got down and when we went to check it out we found a bunch of rubs in the area including one on a tree about 2" around that the deer had actually bent the tree down by rubbing. There were several smaller trees that were either snapped off or bent from this buck rubbing his antlers. This spot is looking very promising and I am anxious to see what I get on camera. I will check it next Sunday.
Also, we got another nice 8 point on camera along with a pretty decent 10 point at one of the other farms we hunt. The bucks all shed velvet and things are really looking good for this season! |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Not much to report here. Wisconsin opener is saturday but I will miss the weekend and will first hund on tuesday. I will however be in Iowa for the opener. Have a week to spend there. My zone in wi is earn a buck so I have to kill a doebefore I can take a buck.
What do you all think of slo pitchs work on our avatar? I think it looks fine and we should take a vote on it. I vote Yes |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I say yes on the avatar, I really like it!
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
A yes from me as well
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
works for me. Found a huge rub yesterday while cleaning a few trails out in the woods. I'm gona take a picture of it tomorrow its on a tree about as big around as my thigh. Must be a nice one in the area. Gona shoot my bow a little tonight. Hope all is well.
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Finally got a chance 2 go grab a few snapshots of that rub. I think it has to be a pretty decent buck to do this much damage and hit this big of a tree. Thebranch that is rubbed is as big as the branch on the left.
![]() |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hope you have a stand set up near that rub. I bet he is a good one
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
15 DAYS!!!!!
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Not as big as slayer rub but I found this one this morning. It looks like things are going to start happening soon.
Good luck And does anyone need a safety harness I have an extra if you can use it. ![]() |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Well I will be out hunting on tuesday. Cold front should be here by than. Anyone know how to make our avatar smaller? I tried putting it up and got the its too large message. Good luck getting the bucks that are making those rubs guys.

RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hey guys... I just got back from vacation. Is anyone hunting yet?
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Ohh Baby....this weekend was amazing! I spent 24 hours at our cabin getting it ready for the season. It is almost completely finished....we just need to hook the woodburner up to the chimney and get a few counters in...then its GO TIME!
As for the hunting aspect....EXCELLENT!! My bow is shooting broadheads like darts. I took two shots at 35 yds last night for the heck of it.....wiggled on the first shot and hit about 3" left...not too bad...the second shot centered the bullseye!!! Plus all the stands are set and prepped....just need to wash my clothes and pack my pack!! LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!! |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Well guys, the season has started here in Nebraska, but it was pretty warm this weekend so I decided not to go out. That didn't stop a couple of my buddies, though, so after helping me move some furniture into my house, I let them hunt up back of my place. My one friend used the tree where I got the big buck of mine last year (see page2 of this thread), but because it was nearly 85 degrees, I never thought they would see anything. Well, about 4:00 in the afternoon, I hear a knock at the door and there he stands, shaking and all excited. I thought thatmy other buddy had fallen out of the tree, but Ed (the guy in the picture) tells me he just shot the biggest buck of his lifetime. I still thought he was kidding, but after a few minutes I realize he isn't so I get my field clothes on (I was in shorts and sandals at the time), and we go out looking for it. He hit itwell, though, getting both lungs, so we didn't have to look far. 40 some odd yards later, there he lay.
That's three bucks of roughly the same size that that tree has produced over the same number of years. I'm not too worried about not getting a nice one though. The big boys usually come out in force during the rut, and nobody but myself will be hunting out of that tree from mid October on. I found myself being very happy for my buddy on Saturday, and not the list bit jealous, which is a big step for me. I think I was just as happy, and maybe more so, that I had played a small role in helping him get his best buck to date, than if I had shot it myself. I was hoping to take that step in maturing as a hunter this year, and perhaps I have made it. I guess I'll know for sure if I don't see another buck that size the rest of the year and end up not filling my tag. If I still feel happy for my buddy, I'll consider this MY best hunting year. ![]() |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Dang thats a pig, congrats goes out to your buddy, thats a beauty!
Well, I'll give a little update while I'm here... the bow is dead on with b-heads and just itching to get out there. As far as the bucks go, I havn't been getting them on my cameras as of late, heck, I havn't been seeing them period but they are absolutely tearing up the area where I set-up a new stand this year. I have rubs everywhere circling my treestand and thats what I am really concerned with. My scouting is done and I am just trying to keep it as low key when I go in the woods as I possibly can. I know that I will be saving this new stand site for those "perfect" days that we as hunters all dream about, the last thing I need is to screw this set-up. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
I just set up the one ladder stand I have on Sunday. and it is in the middle of 3 acron producing white oaks!!!! My other stand is a climber so I just need to clear out the shooting lanes on the other trees I climb. Season starts Oct 7th.
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
NE: Tell your buddy congrats...that is one nice buck!!! Then, once you've done that.....get off the computer, go sit in that stand, and shoot his brother!!! Good luck!
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Thanks, PA Bow. He was really excited. Must have thanked me and my wife about a dozen times that day and another dozen at church the next day. That's what has given me the greatest satisfaction, not the thanks, but the fact that he was so excited and I was able to play a small part by simply owning the land and letting him hunt on it. He still had to make the shot, and he made a good one.
I guess, if you read between the lines of my post, I wasn't as kind as it seems. I really, really did not thinkthey would see anything except perhaps astray doe. My property is more of a transitory piece of land than it is a bedding or feeding area, and it has no water, so I never would have bet even a dime that they would see a big buck like that before the rut. If we were in the rut, I don't think I would have let him hunt there. I'll be there from mid October on. During the rut, the does and bucks criss-cross my property all day long at nearly half hour intervals. It's a site to behold. That's how I got those other two (on page two of this thread) in one day. I shot the one on the left in the morning, and got the bigger one on the right later that afternoon. And all I have to do is pay taxes on the property :-) No food plots or farming. I can't believe I got so lucky. |
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Well arn't we all a active bunch. lol. Season opens here saturday i can't wait. Going to shoot my bow some tonight and im headed to hunting camp tomorrow night to do a little more scouting. Hope everyone is doing well and ready to rock n roll.
|
RE: 4- Team Official Thread
Hey guys, it has been a while since I have checked in but I have been busy shooting and scouting to get ready for the seasons that are coming up fast.
Slayer, I guess we are just going to be the team that speaks softly and carries deadly bows. Glad to see everyone is doing well. Well I will be heading to PA to hit the opener this weekend in hopes of at least harvesting a doe in the early season. I will be hunting some new property early as I am saving the better properties for closer to rut. The property that I am hunting this weekend is showing some promise though. Quite a few acorns on the ground as there is also a good deal of deer sign visible. I will see how it goes. Good luck to all and hopefully we can crack into the scoring column over the next couple weeks. |
