Good luck Rocky!!!
One day I hope to go elk huntin. I'm already considering givin up my next Cabo fishin trip to go elk huntin. I WILL be wearin my harness. |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Good luck Rocky, you can see some pics at http://www.enigmacamo.com/
But I am sure it looks better in person. I am thinking about getting some of that termed"ugly" camo. I just haven't decided between the three. Buellhunter, hopefully that stand will bring in the big ones. If you have a camera, take some pics of the stand. And some shots around the stand. It would be neat to see that little 8 acre honey hole. Report back to us on that Enigma. What all did you end up ordering and with what options? Is it going to be warm enough for late season hunts? mnhuntr, good luck Sunday. Unfortunately for myself, ILseason doesn't open up until Oct. 1 like Buellhunter and a few others on our team. TX, good luck at the lease. Hope things go as planned this weekend. Sept. 30 isright around the corner. As for myself,I ended up ordering a BowMender from Walks With A Gimp(HNI member). Hopefully he should be receiving my money anytime now and he will be shipping it shortly after. I tried the BowMaster, but I didn't like the way it was pushing on the strings. The brackets just didn't seem to work well. My groups are steadily shrinking. I need to test them at30-40 yards. At this point I am just ready tocall it quits on tuning, get some consistent groups, and plan to hunt. Keep my range under 20 yards and I should be good. I was looking at some stands at the Gander Mountain near my house. A few of them caught my eye, all for pretty cheap. I was thinking about picking a few up so I am not just stuck with the climber. Hope things are well. Good luck to all of youas theseason approaches. Bols |

|
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Hey Guys
Guess I have access to the internet from here in BC. I drove here yesterday and met up with my host today . I drove through a blizzard for 3 hours yesterday and was thinking this is perfect to drive the elk to lower ground. We scouted today for 5 hours and never saw a thing. We'll be out scouting in the am hopefully we'll be able to put a plan into effect. Talk to you's tomorrow. Maybe I'll send some pics for you to see too.Take care and God Bless. Rocky  |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Hey Guys
We had a geat day today and had 3 bulls with in 18 yards by 11am. We had a blast I called in 3 of the bulls for us but had no shots available. The closet I had a bull was a satelite bull at 12 yards but were not allowed to shoot them as we need at least a 6 point a side to be able to shoot. I'm very hopefull to fill my tag but you never know when it comes to bow hunting[:@]. Sure am glad to be able to keep in touch with my team members and keep you's involed. That's what teams are all about right. Let's go Antler Mafia .I'll keep in touch team. The Rockster [8D] |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Good luck today Rocky.
That would be so cool to go on a hunt like you are on. |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Good luck Rocky!
Keep up the good work and hopefully you will have some pictures of a nice elk to share with us. Thanks for the reports. Be safe, God Bless. Dave |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread

RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Check In Time Fellas
Well we got out by 7am this morning and got to the top of the mountain by 11:30 after spotting the bull we wanted. Dang this ole body is able but, for how many more days LMAO!:D. The bulls were calling till 2pm then we slept till 4:30 and started calling and locating till 6:30. We had 3 seperate bulls answering so we decided to pack up and go after the one.Man the side of the mountain wasn't to apealling to me ,seemed like it was straight down. We called and I heard a reply from a 1000 feet below. We kept it up cow calling and then we started to hear branches breaking as they were making there way to us. Heck what a site ,they got to within 15 yards and I drew and waited to see if he had 6 on a side but it was a sattalite bull. Then along came another that was a 5x5 and he pegged me as I was at full draw. Man I can not believe what these animals can run through . Well we'll be back at her at 4 am tomorrow. I'll keep in touch guys and good luck hunting and lets get one on the board ;) Rocky |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread

RE: 23- Team Official Thread
hey guys just checkin in...I will be hanging a stand tomorrow and setting up a ground blind on the land I am goign to be hunting while at college....man I am excited it is my first year deer hunting but have been hunting ever since I could...kinda nervous but definitely excited...my opener is Oct 1st...I will be in that stand at 4 am waiting for the first doe I see because in IL you have to take a doe before you can shoot an antlered deer or so my buddies say... i have got one picture of a buck on my land but have seen many different sets of tracks so i know they are out there...

RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Good Luck Petry
Well, we had a late start today but got to the location by 8:30, hiked 4 miles to the base of the mountain we wanted to hunt and started glassing the tops for elk. Right away we started spotting elk,was our best day yet ,saw a total of 3 big and legal bulls and and 2 ore satelitte bulls .also about 11 cows. The bulls started bugeling about 9 today and stopped at 1:30.Rained a bit while we hadour afternoon nap lookingover a ledge about a 1000 feet up, God was good to ustoday and enabled 4 cow elk to come with in 14 yards of us. Actually the one calf I thought was going to walk right over us untill he decededto follow mom. I drew thinking it was the huge 6x7 we saw cause he was with 4 cows. So I actually drew twice today[>:].Heck the view sitting atop of the mountain and the 4 cow elk with in 14 yards was worth the trip in itself guys;).Seven days to go [:-]hopefully the good lord will allow such an actsuch as taking a life :)in lue of food [8D]. Well I hope everyone is good,I will keep in touch and I'll post some pics when I get back. Rocky |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Well Rocky, I have to admit, I'd love to be going thru the same "misery" as you right now. Good luck, I really hope you get one.
This past weekend I did get myGameTamer stand hung at my 1st choice area. I helped some buddies with their stuff too so I didn't have time to get to my other area. Also, I did have a pic on my trail cam of a doe. I think I have it setup a little too far away from the trail. I can tell the trail is being used but the cam doesn't trigger. I'll move it next time I'm up. September 30th cannot come quick enough! I'm SO ready to sit in that tree, especially on this frigid 70 degree morning here in SE TX. I've got that rut-like feeling comin on!!!!!:D:D Good Luck Fellas! TXMM |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
hey guys!! how is everything going, any luck yet by anyone? i was just wondering what everyone uses for a scent this time of year before the pre rut starts.

RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Wade
Great to see your all set and rarin to go [8D],it never seems like there's enough time to get the stands all in and ready to go as family life is always calling for something[:o]. Guys we had a great start today as we got into where we wanted early enough to scan the mountain side and see what we were going to chase.Right of the bat the elk were bugeling. So we had to climb and cross a canyon and the chase was on [:'(]. We started calling at 9am and got an instant response :D.Little did we know, their were 3 hunters down on the road who had elk in their vision too. Well to make a long story short we had them comming to our calls and and answering us too;). We dragged them across the basin and half way into the next basin till we got back to our truck. Not 5 minutes later as we started lunch the 3 fellas walked to our truck and asked if we had any luck!!![:o]Answer was we used them to try and draw the bull that was keeping just in front of us as we used them as a decoy[:'(].They weren't happy campers. I lost my wisker buisuit 1st thing in the morning ,so I was doing all the calling. The afternoon was spent buying a drop away rest and resighting in at all the distant's needed[:'(]. Got back out by 6 pm to the slight drizzle of rain ,and now their calling for the next 4 days of rain. Man I'm hoping that we don't go up to high in the rain and get soaked and get hypothermia and freeze to the mountain[X(]. If you guys are into praying:(pray that the rain dosn't happen:D. Till tomorrow, God Bless and be good. Rocky |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread

Rta47
Hey Rta,enjoy the good things that our kids bring us while there stillat home with us,their only home with us a short while and then there gone. Sure good to see your doing just that, I used to love coaching and watching my kids play ball and swim when they were younger ,seems to me that most parents want to either want their kids to excell at what they do or see their selves in their kids footprints and wish it was them who was doing the great things there doing.;) Also don't worry about me RTA;),I'll giver till I drop:D.Thanks for the word of encouragement:eek:. Actully I did drop didn't I???? 20 feet to be prcise, LMAO ,and my butt cheek is bruised:(. We have a lot of time to hunt RTA and so be it,other things will come up and we'll still have time to hunt that great elusive animal we call the whitetail. Heads up bud and good luck in your future hunts RTA47. Rocky |

MNhunter 82
In reply to your question on scents, I tend not to use any scents in the eearly season and rely on tickling of antler and doe calling. October 1st is the majic week for me up here in Alberta and the deer seem to come to the horn the best then. Around November is when I start to use doe in heat by Code Blue and use it on a drag rag then hang it in a bush with in 15 yards of my stand and down wind of me.Good luck and good Hunting MN. RE: 23- Team Official Thread
10 more days to wait.
I think I'm going to make it:D |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Day 7 of 10
Well guys the weather is not co-operating and the rain has been heavy for the last 2 days.Went out this morning and didn't see scwat again. Looks to be clearing this afternoon so we'll be heading out in the am after the big 340 plus bull we located during the week with 6 cows. We know their are 2 good bulls up their and a lot of cow. It just blows me away that these animals can get so high up and also the terrain that they can live in [:'(]. Buellhunter hang in there bud, patience is the name of the game and being a whitetail hunter you surley have a ton of it :D. I'm resting my foot for the day as I did some damge somehow to my ball of my foot and am not able to walk today very good. So tomorrow were hoping will be the day of flinging arrows. Talk to you all soon. Rocky |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread

RE: 23- Team Official Thread
I have another week to wait!
I have one more stand to put up and one to replace since it appears it was stolen. |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
ORIGINAL: Buellhunter I have one more stand to put up and one to replace since it appears it was stolen. Man. . .why? Human nature really stinks at times. Our will always gets us into trouble, doesn't it? Buell, hope you get that stand up in time. Was it one of your better [location] stands? Hope you can get another one up and maybe on your way into set up the stand you will see something that you can use going into hunting season you didn't know before?!?! One more week for myself. Got the bow shooting pretty good. Quiet since I put the string silencers back on. Put a new peep in and even ended up getting a light kit for my sight. Either way, I got 6 sharp BH's and I am ready to sit in a tree. One more week!! I think I am going to try and shoot some longer range shots sometime today or tomorrow at the farm. Just to make sure the sights are still good. Gotta run, Good Luck, God Bless, Bols |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
The stand was on private property. I can only hunt that side of the creek when i am hunting with Chris. He is the only one that has permission to hunt that side and can take me but i can't hunt it by myself.
The stand has(had) been in the same tree for about 6 years now, maybe longer. There are others that shotgun hunt it but the stand was still there after shotgun season. ATVers go in there without permission though. I shot a doe out of that stand last year and have shot others in years past. Larry, Chris' dad has also shot deer out of it. Good news is it was one of our oldest ladder stands so we are only out about 50.00, so, 50.00 for 6 years ain't that bad. I am going to Dick's on Tiesday and buying another ladder to replace it, they have them on sale for 60.00. Of course I will also be buying a chain and padlock. Today I am going and buying 50' of chain, cut into 5' sections and about 10 padlocks. I lost a stand last year but the dumbass that stole it put it on adjoining proprerty that a guy I know shotgun hunts, he found it while hunting(actually sat in it) and knew it was mine. They have our names on them. He took me to where it was and I "stole" it back, during the late bonus season. I really dis-like thieves. I work my ass off for the things I have. They should have to also and not just help themselves to my stuff. |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
Good news!
Tha laddwe stand i thought was stolen is still there! Whooo Hooo. Chris went out and checked on it and his stands this morning and all is well. |
RE: 23- Team Official Thread
hey guys any luck this weekend? buellhunter how did you think that your stand was gone and then it wasnt?it is a good deal though that you did find it.
i have been out three evenings now and havent even seen a deer yet, besides walking back to my truck at the end of the hunt. hope things pick up here soon. rocky havent heard from you in awhile. you must have had some luck. good luck to you all. |

I'm Back Home [&o]
Wellit was a hunt to remember for some time, but [:@]I didn't arrow one, drew on 6 but didn't get a legal bull to show up. The BC rules mean you will almost certainly get a pope n young bull ifalegal one shows up :D. We called in bulls 6 of the 8 days we hunted and 6 cows too [:@]. Frustrating, yes, but a hunt I wouldn't trade for the world. I was in God's country and truly up closer to him also.We had sunshine ,snow:(,rain[:'(],and best of all we had great companionship. If you ever have in mind in the future to do a swap hunt, ensure you get to know the person you will be hunting with ina personal way, that way you won't have any surprises:eek:. I found my wisker buisuit 3 days later in grass as high as my calves. You can't tell me this was by chance cause the chances of this happening when your not looking for it are way too high. It was a God thing I believe:). Dave ,sure glad your ladder stand showed up, I know what it's like to look for a stand when the season opens and you say to your self I know I had a stand here:(.Good luck when your season opens bud! Sorry Joel for keeping you in suspense with not comunicating for 2 days, but I got home yesterday and had to suck up to the wife to get back into the good books before I even tempt to ask to head back out to the field [:@]. I'll try for an evening hunt come Wednesday and try to keep in touch daily now that I'm home. About the only picture I have that is really a great shotis of me at full draw on a slope of about 75% on a 4x5 bull. I'll post it if anyone can tell me how to do it.Thanks Rocky |

ORIGINAL: youngfart If you ever have in mind in the future to do a swap hunt, ensure you get to know the person you will be hunting with ina personal way, that way you won't have any surprises:eek:. Rocky Sorry you didn't get an elk. We were all pulling for ya. Well, my season begins this Saturday the 30th! This cooler weather really has me pumped! I think I'm all ready to go. Do any of you have any reminders or tips that are easily forgotten about when the season rolls around? Ya know like; don't forget toilet paper, sharpen your knives, flashlight batteries, camera,etc.... We can NOT forget to take pics of our kills!!!!! |

The reason I stated that quote was in case youhaveneverdidaswap and no nothing of the person your going to stay with then a lot of unknown things can happen unexpectedly. I've done the swap thing 3 times and have not had a problem other than a person saying who he is than what he stands for! Forgetful things[:'(]take your sfaety strap so your not tempted to climb up and in with out it.That's how accidents happen[:@]. We will tend to say I'll be really safe this time so I don't have to cancel the day's hunt cause of it. That's an accident looking to happen[:o] Take care and God Bless PS Shoot straight:eek:Good luck Saturday:) Rocky |
