Hey guys, I'm still here. I had an 8 point in my sights the other day, when a couple of dogs ran him before I could get the shot. I'm working on my contribution to the team.

The reason for no replies lately is that I am still hanging pictures in our new house, moving my office to the new building, and of course, hunting!

Good luck to everyone.

The "road system" (the whole NE section of the island) is closed for deer. I got out for goats and passed up a smallish one but everything in the high country is frozen into a giant popsicle now so goat hunting is pretty much done even though the season goes for another week and a half. I'm flying out on a 3 day deer hunt next weekend. I've got 3 tags so lets all hope I come across a good one (or three) and that he doesn't drop his antlers after the shot!!! (They usually drop here in mid December). Should have some second rut activity going on and the snow should have them concentrated down in the low country.

I'm glad to hear a couple guys are still hunting.I spent last week trying to help my family some deer.My 11 year old shot a doe on Monday. My brother shot a couple deer.1 10 pointer,an 8 pointer, and a couple of does.My brothers son in law missed a booner.Unfortunately the guy whom slipped in on our drive did not miss it.It was a dandy ! He just clen missed it at close distance, three times ! He needs to learn to slow down and aim.
Good luck to the few who are still hunting.I hope you catch a break KA, and get some decent weather.

I am still hunting. We had about 4" of ice last Thursday with a couple inches of snow Friday morning. Made it pretty tough to get around. I was out on Saturday, but didn't see anything. I can't figure out where they are feeding these days. Plenty of tracks in the snow, but I think most of the movement is all nocturnal. Anyway, I'll be hunting until the end of January. I have several tags that I can still fill.

Yeah Firemed they are moving alot at night because of the full moon phase, the winding down of the first rut and the annual after gun season hiding for their life lull. I went out to our barn 300 feet from my house with my wife last night to check out some work I had done and it was so bright out we couldnt believe it.

Sorry guys but the weather did me in this trip. We flew out in a float plane on Friday morning for a remote bay about 40 miles south of town. We got out that evening for a few hours before dark and my friend shot a doe with his .30-06. We spent most of the next day holed up in camp by 30 kt. winds and rain, we managed to get out for a couple hours but saw nothing. Sunday barely allowed us to get out of the tipi and I didn't get afield at all for the mixed rain and snow. Monday morning was more of the same but it cleared off in the afternoon enough to let us get out for a couple hours before the plane showed up at 4pm, once again we saw nothing except tracks of both deer and a real fresh bear right behind camp. As we broke camp there was a doe looking down at us from right behind camp. In all I saw 6 deer and no racked bucks and between the 3 of us we only saw one big fork horned buck. So goes 2006; the #2 archery SCI reindeer and a blown opportunity at a P&Y blacktail. I guess I can't complain but wish I could've pitched in for the team more...

You can't control the weather brother. You are in an area where things can turn deadly fast.It is 60 degrees here. You did take a great bull. There is a two day gun season again this weekend.I did get some good news.My brother is still seeing a monster buck going to the wheat field after dark. The pressure on about 500 acres of ground around the wheat field was light. So some of the big boys had a good place to sneek into during the gun season.Gives me something to look forward to for next year.A couple make mine look like a scrub buck.I'll be scouting hard this winter for next year.

I am hopefully still going to get out a few days in December. I've been out with an ankle spain I sustained at work. My plan is to be released to full duty on Wednesday, but I'll just have to wait and see.

Hey guys,
I'll be heading to South Africa for a business trip and then to Mozambique for some mission work. I leave on Dec 26 and won't be back until January 7th. Hunting season goes until January 31 so I hope that big 8 won't be my last opportunity to put some real points on the board. Good luck guys. See you in a few weeks.
