Well my fellow hunters,What is your largest bow kill ? My largest is a typical 6x6 with 2 kickers. He scored 156 5/8 P&Y.I'm still trying to top that one.I tend to let alot of bucks walk, holding out for a good one. Some times you eat a tag doing that but I always fill my doe tags early.I love to shoot a big mature doe. They are always on red alert.I won't eat my tag this year.I'll hold out untill just before the gun season like last year and take one for the team, for the points.

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

My biggest deer so far was an 8 pt. whitetail from NY that was in about the 100 class. Nothing impressive but a decent representative of the species. Since then my focus has switched away from deer toward AK game. I've taken a P&Y moose and of course the brown bear in my avatar. This year I'm after a P&Y blacktail but I've got to get it done by November so that I can switch gears toward mountain goat and the world record class bear I've been after for the last two years (goats when I can get into the mountains and the bear when I can't).

The Last To Check In!!
Thanks Ohio Bowhunter for the email, I didn't think they were going to pick teams until the beginning of September. Well, my name is Paul. I'm 23 and have been seriously bowhunting for a few years now. Last year I had the joys of having knee acl reconstruction surgery a week before the Wisconsin bow opener.Made it quite difficult to get out in the woods but I managed to harvest a doe and passed on a few bucks. Since last season I've moved to the U.P. of Michigan. I'll be hunting the lower U.P. and hopefully (Home) Central Wisconsin when I can. I've come across a few decent bucks up here, a few 8's but nothing worth too much bragging! Any teamname is fine with me.

Paul

Great, all of our team has checked in.

Kodiak, I have to agree with Ohio. You are living in a hunters paradise. One of the guys at the firehouse went fishing on the Kenai in July. Fishing was pretty poor, they actually shut down the river for a couple days. I have made it a personal vow to hunt Alaska at least once, preferably sooner than later.

Ohio:my best was taken last year in the back of my subdivision. I was just trying to get some video footage and get a shot ata mature doe. Out of nowhere came a mainframe 8 pt with 2 kickers off the left bow time. Grossed 112".I unfortunately didn't get the kill on video, but I do have the deer on my wall.:D

o yea, i meant to post this with my last one but i just remembered it now. i bought this product called "Buck Jam" with the corn flavor and just got it to try out to see if it worked. it comes in a gallon jug so you get alot for the small amount you pay for it. mine was on sale for $5.99 @ Wal-Mart. i took it up to my grandma's house because i grew up at her house everyday for 14 years of my life and i know theres deer there. i poured about a 50 sent piece size strip about 3 inches long on the ground about a week and a half ago. i go up there today to do a little yard work for her, and look at the spot where i poured the Buck Jam and WOW!!! the deer had pawed a hole in the ground about 4-5" deep and scraped away the top layer of grass/dirt all around where i poured it. so i put a little more out because that stuff works!!! just giving u guys a head up to look for it @ your local stores and maybe give it a try because it obviously drives them crazy for it.

I poured a jug of the apple flavor buck jam over a pile of corn that is in front of my trail cam a few days ago. I'm hoping to get a couple close ups of a few bucks that I've only been able to get glimses of. Hopefully it will bring them in similar to the results that you have had.

Cool! We're all checked in, Ohio is our captain, now we need Arjuna to edit the post title to add "32-Team Silent but Deadly". Now if I could just find where that darn big 4 point (10 point to you E. coast boys) that gave me the slip last November got to... >>>------->

Great everyone is here and ready to go. fire_medic that is a great looking buck.Kodiak, that is the great thing about Alaska. The variety of game avalible. The last elk was killed in my county in 1888. I have seen one black bear that was traveling through. He was shot by a scared farmer the next week.Moose would be a blast.Keep looking for that blacktail. They claim they are harder to hunt than whitetail.

well guys, i went out to my uncles house today to check on the stands and he said that there are 3 different bucks (2 twin 8s, maybe 10s now) and a bigger buck, along with one huge doe. Unfortunately that area is earn-a-buck, so i need to take the doe first...but theres 3 bucks there waiting after her...

Well I know that Diesel would put a few out if he had internet access... :( The Sears guy took down his overhead power lines and his comcast connection earlier this week. He dropped his flash card off to me this afternoon so I could see what he had on the camera and report back to him over the weekend. By his standards only one of these may be a shooter but I would love to have the opportunity at all of them. Good luck Diesel with these deer one of them would make a great addition to our numbers on team Silent but Deadly aka "Team 32"

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE RULES .They will be strict this year.Make sure the bow, complete deer, and yourself are in the photo. We don't want someone disqualified for a mistake.I hunt alone, but made sure a photo was taken that qualified after I got home.I will continue to remind all of you as the season goes on.I want this to be fun,so lets leave the mistakes to another team.

I also read that we have to have our deer's green score when we submit the photo to be entered in the contest.

Click on the species that you need to score in order to get the sheet. If you have any questions on scoring just ask. I'm not an official measurer but I have an official P&Y measurer's manual and have worked with a couple measurers before to score animals for big buck contests, as well as having my own scored. I'm sure there's some official measurers on the site that can help out also.

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

Sounds like some great deer Diesel. Were the bigger onesMD deer ?
As for a phrase, sure why not. This is for fun so anything goes with me.
I tried to post a couple photos of some of my critters,we were having trouble getting them reduced.I'll see if I can post them over the next day or two.Heck we all love to see what others have taken. My problem is I never carry a camara(or own one)and hunt alone. So I never get a good in the field shot.

Ohio Bowhunter75 08-28-2006 03:06 PM

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

Are any of you hunting crop fields or food plots that you have planted ? We are getting ready to plant a fall harvest plot. Most likely rye or wheat or a mixture. There is also several acres of corn near by.

Diesel77 08-28-2006 04:00 PM

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

Yeah all the deer are MD deer. Nothing is planted for hunting purposes, Its just planted crops that are rotated, soy and corn. Obviously when we have soy down it makes for a more enjoyable early season for multiple reasons, 1) I can scout and target deer feeding patterns better, and 2) the deer feed on soy like its candy so every other year is like a bonus year for me.

Sounds like you have a honey hole as well there Ohio

Here are a couple of my bucks.
Diesel, the main area I plan on hunting does have some good deer.It is an area I started to learn last fall. Over the past 4 years I have lost a ton of hunting ground. Some changed ownership, some a jealous neighbor cost me after I arrowed the 14 pointer.
It seems like I stuck learning new ground every year.I lost my favorite spot after hunting it for 15 years.I had worked hard, and watched the quality of deer get better and better, and then it was gone.I might have a chance to get back on to that ground some this season.I got the boot off of it after a couple family members sayed they wanted to start hunting there. They never have hunted it since.A family member told me I might as well start hunting it again. We will see !!!

Land is getting harder to hold onto around here. The farms are all being sold off to land companies and broken off into lots. The coal companies have doubled the cost of lease ground in the last year.
You have some great bucks.I have another 13 pt and two big 10's mounted also. They are at the cabin.
Hopefully we can add some new photos this year.I won't mind paying my taxidermy bill.LOL

KodiakArcher 08-29-2006 10:58 AM

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

Funny how the taxidermist's bill[8D] or the air charter bill:) are never as hard to pay as the electric bill[:@][:@][:@][:@]. Some friends from NY are up here hunting deer. They spotted one of the monsters I had seen last year and two guys missed him with rifles at 30 yds!!! One guy shot a smaller buck an hour later. Some hunches I had earlier in the season proved true. The deer are in totally different country this year than normal. We had a very late spring and vegetation in the high country never fully ripened. The deer are staying lower than I've ever seen them until they get pushed down in November. I just hope the last guy with a tag doesn't put a bullet through that bruiser before I get a chance to arrow him...

Ohio Bowhunter75 08-29-2006 11:15 AM

RE: 32- Team Official Thread

Well go get him,We won't complain if you shoot one before our seasons even open.:D
