Memories... I spent last night getting the last few things from my parents' house and moving it to my place b/c they were whining about my huntingjunk still in the attic and littered all through the house. The last bulk items were my bins of deer racks. I sat down and went through them all, remembering each moment like it was yesterday. Anyone else ever do that? My wife saw what I was doing and acted like I just got beamed down from the U.S.S. Enterprise. LOL Women just don't understand.

In other news, I thought my in-line was still loaded (not capped)from two years ago, so I finally got it back from the gun closet at my parents'. (haven't hunted with it in 2 seasons). It's a sweet gun, stainless X-150 Winchester, but I was actually afraid to see what funkadelic mess was in the tube. Well, to my surprise, I pulled the breech plug and it was empty (SCORE!). I must've fired off the round and not remembered doing it. It was one of those jobs that I just kept putting off and forgetting about it - next thing I know - it's two years later. Oops.

The tube was nasty and filthybut not corroded - she's shiny and oiled-up now. Like a good woman, she isn't so bad even when she's dirty, but she cleans up real nice. Man, I forgot how good that trigger feels for being stock. I bet it breaks clean around 2.5 pounds - really light for factory-direct. I'm rambling now - just procrastinating at this point... better get back to work.

Another close call this morning.(I had a aneye problem, couldnt see myself going to worktoday:D)

Got into my ground blind that I saw the big fella in about a month ago. Daylight comes. I sit for about 1.5 hours with nothing going on around me. I am about half way up the side of a pretty good sized mountain on a network of old skid trails the bucks like to use to travel from the fields below to the thick bedding areas on the steep mountainside.

I hear thump, thump, heavy body moving up towards me. Then I hear his feet in the snow. I grab my bow and he's now in sight. Tall tined 4x4 coming right at me. Hes coming up the ridge headed straight for the skid trail I am perched up above the cut bank on in my ground blind. He is flat out cruising, like something spooked him below. He passes the trees in front of me, I draw. Hes a dandy, I decide I want to shoot him.

"Baaaaaaaaaa" I let out as he noses into the opening below me at about 15 yards. He doesnt even slow down, he jumps sideways and bails. I cant even get the bow on him, gone gone gone.... Wasn't meant to be I reckon. Fun though... Nice to have a good one close this morning. Didnt see another deer the rest of the morning. Came down for lunch at 11. Gonnahead out tothe woods in 1 hour... Hunting the point tonight. Maybe ole candlesticks will show up. Havent seen him for two years..Dont hunt this spot much, keep it as my ace in the hole. Last time there.. saw that 130 class.. anway... Suppose to have 50+ mph winds tonight, storm is coming in right now, but not the winds yet...just rain.. I feel great, God is good and I wanna slam a buck! Its been an interesting season.

Hope the other guys are fairing well. Yup we need two kills or a 173 1/8 that I owe Buttonbuckmaster..heck may as well shootfor the extra 1/8th, no one likes a tie. Like kissin the sis.

Troy

I went out last night behind the house...didn't see a deer. I've been seeing a little basket rack nearly every night out the kitchen window. I decided to set up in my stand near where he's been coming out to get a better look at him, he didn't play along lol. I did however see another skunk. Really got to do something to thin them out. Nearly every evening I can smell them near my house. I'm thinking about starting trapping this winter to take a few of them out.

My late season honey hole is open again. For some reason, the guy won't let us (or anyone else) hunt there until late season when they start to herd up. IMO, thats when they are much harder to hunt. We saw 40+ in a herd last year on the last weekend of bow season. I saw a monster 5pt that had to weigh 200+ last year...never could get drawn on him. He had 2 big forks and one brow tine, close to 20 inches wide. I was wanting to take him just for the odd rack.....he would make a great conversation piece. I'll probably start hunting there on Monday....this weekend is going to be nuts with 2 Christmas get togethers and my son has a tournament.

Good luck guys...its not over yet. Stay after them.

Hey guys just checking in. Troy caught a break and school was cancelled due to the high winds out there. Soo....he said he was headed out to hunt the rest of the day. Hope this break can be the lucky one he needs to turn things his way.

Have fun and good luck this weekend to those guys getting out. I actually plan to go FISHING tomorrow. This weather is insanely warm.
