Some body stepped or fell on your case while the bow was in it, or like you said something heavy got set on it. Could it have happened before you put in the case?
Like said, these cheaper cases are pretty crappy. You still have to be careful if you value what is inside them. A decent strong case will cost you well over $100 bucks though, unless you find a good deal on one.
I also agree with Arthur on his comments about this rest. I have never been a big fan of it, sure seems to be popular though. The only thing that I can see it does though is make a nice bandaid for not learning how to draw your bow smoothely.
