RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Just two days till the orange army are out scaring the crap out of everything alive:(. I sure hope I can get a good one before then;)
I'm off to the stand..............Wish me luck;):D |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
That sounded like a great hunt, BHD! I can't imagine having those kind of bucks walking around! We worked for 6 long years to get a couple of 4.5 year olds off our place here in Bama, a good 4.5 year old willscore around 120's some a little higher. You are very blessed to have that kind of hunting! Hope you get that big one!
The guns still don't come outfor2 weeks down here! I'm going to spend as much time as I can! Oh yea, I got another doe.32 yards, 100 lbs. Mabey that 8 point will appear tomorrow! I'll be in the stand all day! Trae |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
During the last few years therehas beenallot of river conservation land that pooped up all around me. None of it gets hunted too hard. I've been seeing more and bigger bucks the last few years than I have in my hole life.......Not to mention......Letting then smaller ones walk doesn't hurt either;)
My guess is that the nine point I let walk was only 2 1/2...........Imagine what he'll be if he makes it a couple more years ![]() |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Keep up the hard work men. Sounds like you will get your bucks any time. I have had severl members contact me saying they thought my buck would score more. That got me to thinking so I rechecked him and sure enough I forgot to add the inside spread. The bucks real gross score is 172 6/8. RobPA said he would change it with no problem. I told him if it caused a problem at all I would except the score I already posted. I know I'm stupid for missing adding the inside spread. Hopefully the other members will accept my mistake and the the real score be placed. Good luck hunting guy's. Chris

B.H.D. -
My guess is that the nine point I let walk was only 2 1/2 I saw 9 deer today, didn't take a shot they were all either too far, ordoes &yearlings. I did see one buck in the dark on the way in, he was great! I think he was as shocked as I was when my lights hit him! He didn't run, he turned his head, andjust walked off! My heart was pounding! I'm not real sure how big he was, but there was plenty of horn. He never turned up after the lights came on! M.T.H. - that's great! He is a solid trophy! Are you going to have him mounted? Is he your best to date? I'll be getting back to the woods on Monday or Tuesday, I set up anew stand today in a really nice looking spot! I finally found some white oaks that havesome acorns! Lots of "Buckeyes" also! Do deer eat buckeyes? Just wondering, cause there's alot of them. I've heard their good luck???? Hope you guys get to enjoy the woods this week! Trae |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
He is going on the wall for sure. He is my biggest to date. I have been hunting one quite a bit bigger for a couple years now but havn't got him close enough yet. Good luck this week with your hunts. Chris

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
I had a 150+ 10 pegged down to the exact trail and time. 2 nights in a row i watched him come to a big scrape on the bottom of an oak ridge and follow a trail through some thick cover. I watched him from my stand 50 yards away...Welltuesdayeveningwas going to offer me the chance to get my climber in a tree within shooting distance of his trail without him winding me. Well to make a long story short my sciaticca and back pain got so bad that I could barely walk and couldn't get to my stand. So here I am at home sulking over what was probably my last chance at him this bow season.

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Thanks Guys! Funny thing is I'm not that old...only 28....Too many Years of football and too much basketball are catching up with me I guess. I'm 6'3 260 but played basketball like a 150# guard... Plus I played Defensive end in college.I don't think my body was built to handle so much abuse. Just taking it easy now. Hopefully I will be able to get out for gun season.

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Hey guys!
Well I got back last weekend from my trip to Illinois with little more than a Walmart bag of meat to show for it. The weather didn't cooperate until Wednesday, I had a couple of almost shooters at 5 yards but only when it was too dim to be sure. I was being a little extra cautious as I had never even seen a 130 or larger class buck in the woods and I didn't want to pay a $500 fine for shooting a "non shooter." I must have seen 50 solid 110 - 120 class bucks, a lot of them mid day, but the big boys weren't moving in my area until darkish. I saw what I was later told was a 180 class 10 pointer at about 100 yards though. The guide was over in another piece of the farm and said he saw him going my way. Even at that distance his rack looked HUGE. It looked like he had someone's ribcage on his head! Now I know what folks are talking about when they say they could fill their tags the first day if they shot "whatever walks by" The first day there I saw at least 10 spikes, 10 does and a couple basket rack 8s all within 30 yards! We're looking into a lease ;) I'll post a couple pictures of a few of the shooters that did come into camp. |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
I've been hunting and hunting, but no shooters are walking early enough to get a shot. Got a double today though, my freezer is now full, I'll be huntin' horns from here on out![8D]

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Well boys,
Last hour and a half of the Massachusetts Archery season last night, a big-bodied 8 pointer came by at 30 yards. He came out making a racket after a couple turns on the "Lil Can" doe bleat. He stopped every 5 feet walking through the brush trying to look out into the field I was hunting 50 yards into the woods from. After 10 minutes of waiting, drawing and letting down twice, my adrenaline dump began and the shakes had settled in pretty bad. I had never felt my heartbeat in my right knee before, but now it was thumping a tune on the seat of my stand. The buck finally took another step forward which put his vitals in view just above some briars with his head behind a 12 " wide swamp maple leaner. I tried holding steady and thought that I finally had a good hold with the 30 yard pin square in the center of his body right behind his shoulder. When I released, I heard a pretty tell-tale "SHNOCK", the sound of dead-wood. As the buck spun and hopped back into the brush, I gave him a couple mouth "errrps" and stopped him twice. I was pretty sure he was unhit. I knew he was unhit when he came back 20 yards behind me and hung around for the last hour of shooting light. He never came out in the clear and I heard him walk away in the dark. After dark, it only took me a quick flash of my flashlight to find my arrow impaled in the center of that tree. I couldn't pull it out so I unscrewed it and will bring a screwdriver with me to pry it out tomorrow (opening of s-gun season) I'm pretty sure I probably flinched at the shot, maybe even torquing the bow. My nerves were pretty much gone at that point and I have virtually no reccolection of my shot process which I try to rehearse religeously (pick a spot, draw,(anchor on my) nose, (anchor on my) jaw, breathe-in-out-hold, steady, release). I think I managed to remember to pick a spot. Anyhow, shotgun starts tomorrow. I'm going out before work with my s-gun for opening day, but I'll be hunting a piece of private land with my bow in mornings from then on. But my season is winding down and chances to get out are becoming slim! |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Sorry about that Trembow, you sure tell the story well. I know that feeling, and even though it makes you sick to think about it, those moments are now great memoriesfrom the field. An encounter with a buck of that caliber is always an awesome expirence! Don't give up, it may still work out! Thank's for the story, it sure helps to know that other huntersdo that, and that I'm not alone! [8D]

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Losing a deer just stinks!
I'm hopeful that since the blood did peter out, you probably didn't hit the liver at all. Let's hope that he lives long enough to make it by your stand again soon :) |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Hey, I guess the excitment is over! We didn't do too well on the overall scroe, I guess we still have a little time to get one. I'm still trying, but I have to admit, I'm taking my Thompson/Center more than I'm taking my Hoyt! After I get some more pics of the bucks in the daytime, I'll go back to the Bow, but nowmovement isjust really unpredictable!
Hope everyone is doing good! Talk to y'all later! Trae |

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Well guys here is my story.
Shot what I thought was a doe on opening day of the season.........found out it was a spike when I tracked it down. Oops. So my buck tag was gone in one day and he scores less then one of Motown's main beams ![]() I will probably post a more detailed story in the main forum. Nice hunting with you guys this year and sorry I couldn't help out more. ![]() |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Good job Atlas, itdoesn,t matter what it scores as long as the hunts are enjoyed.

RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Well fellas, I'm sorry to say that my season is done and I whiffed in the buck department. There's an exremely slim chance I might get to hunt Rhode Island later this month...but it's extremely thin and if this year is like last year the big bucks around here will largely start dropping their antlers very soon. (I got my biggest shed ever last year in late December, a 160 class 10 pointer that I also have game cam pictures of.)
If I had half a brain, I would have chanced paying the extra $500 penalty down in Illinois and taken the big 8 pointer I had a shot at. He was 120 easy but I didn't know if he'd go 130, so I let down. [:@] Next time, I bring my checkbook and keep it warm! |
RE: Official Team Pass-Through (22) Thread
Still trying down here in Bama, I've held off a few smaller bucks, waiting for a decent shot, on a mature buck. We are entering the last two and 1/2 weeks of our season, so I'm gonna give it my best shot. I've been shooting my hoyt again and getting ready to slap a toad! My brother is coming up and we're gonna give them a fit in the woods this weekend!
Great job Atlas, you are on the board, I ain't even there! Talk to y'all later! Trae P.S. - I'll post a picture of a small Nine I got on the DeerCam. |
