Guys, Christine, LOL;)
Don't want to count my eggs before they hatch—or, God forbid—jinx myself—but I may be on to a Daddy that would put us "way up" on our team score. Brief history—in 03 I located a mainframe 5x5 with matching 6-8" droptines—and roughly a 23+" spread. True IL monster. Well, as the Curse of the Irish would have it, I blew a 30 yard chance at him by being "too slow" to react. Very next morning, he came in minutes too early—and stopped 10 yards from the tree I was in the process of climbing, LOL!!! Anyway, I hunted him hard the rest of the season, and saw him another 6-7 times—but never got him back in bow range. Never saw him last season, and assumed he'd died of natural causes or just gone completely nocturnal. Well, this past Sunday—I started to re-think that. My "hunch" is that he has a small "domain" that he just refuses to leave—rut or not. In 03—we had a heavy mast crop, and he stayed in the immediate area of a big, thick big timber hollow. Every time I saw him, he was in the near vicinity of that hollow, and never exited South of the mouth of that hollow. I was seeing anywhere from 6-15 does per hunt back there that season—then last season, you couldn't buy an acorn in the area—and the place was like a ghosttown. Well, this year we have the best mast crop I've seen in 20 years of hunting our area—and I "scouted" that old big hollow Sunday on my way out. Sure enough, the "signs" point to my old buddy being back in his old stomping grounds. I didn't actually see "him"—but likely just missed him as he had passed through. He's laid down identical scrapes in the exact same locations as he had in 03—and the scrapes bare the exact "attitude/aggressiveness" that he displayed in 03. Anyway, whether it's "him" or not—it's certainly a monster of a buck. I know the area in the dark, blind-folded—and pretty well know how/when the deer utilized the area. So, tomorrow I'm on my way back to our old playground. I'm hoping to catch up to him this weekend now that I have a good overall idea of when he's moving through—and in what direction. If I can't locate him this weekend—I'll be down there hunting for 10 days straight from the 4th to the 14th—and will be locked in on trying to make up for my blunders of 03. Again, I'm being careful not to get ahead of myself—but there's a good chance I might have a decent amount of additional "points" to add within the next 3 weeks. Wish me luck!!!—and best of luck to the rest of the Fearsome 15!!! |

RE: Official Team "Fearsome 15" (15) Thread
Hey guys and gals, sorry it's taking so long to get off my but and score the 7pt.This is my busy season at my shop, and the deer is in my buddies freezer about 20 miles from home.Ok,so much for excuses.
The 7pt. has a 15 1/2 inside spread,7 1/2 g2's,a little over 5in. g3's,and a missing brow tine.He dressed out at 135lbs.By no means am I an official scorer, but my scoring comes up with-104 3/8. By the way, last friday night,I shot an 8pt. that dressed out at 160lbs.A big bodied deer, but the rack was a little "screwy".Actually,I thought he was a big 6pt.That night,I counted 12 bucks, the largest being the one I shot,in a strip of woods about 80yds.wide and about 400yds. long. It's a strip of woods that runs along side of a golf course.A perfect funnel, loaded with oak trees and acorns. Most of the bucks were small spikes,a couple of 6pts.,and the rest were little 4pts.They were harrassing any does that came anywhere in the area.It was fun to watch all this!!!...Bob |
RE: Official Team "Fearsome 15" (15) Thread
well guys i thought for sure i had some points coming for us but unfortunately the cards werent dealt correctly. tuesday morning i wounded a real nice buck probably 125 or a little better. i thought the shot would be lethal and tracking him i thought for sure would turn out successful. he ran 125-150 yards bleeding hardcore and then like a water hose getting turned off, he stopped bleeding. i looked for hours that morning, then after school with a few of my friends and still the next day without finding him. since then i havent had the nerve to go again. i just cant get myself to go for fear of wounding another[&o]sorry
