I feed corn and plant food plots for the deer on my property. I hunt on and around those areas.

Here in Iowa, we are not allowed to hunt over bait. We can plant and hunt over food plots but we have to be at least 100 yards from feeders or food placed out for deer such as corn or apples. On my place, I don't even worry about planting food plots because all the property around my place is row cropped in corn and soybeans or pastured with alphalpha and clover. Plenty of food around. I started 5 years ago to set up my place as a bedding area. I already had 2 patches of heavy mature cedar thickets on my place. 1 is around 5 acres and the other is about 2 acres. I have since planted 34 acres of hardwood trees. Oaks, black walnuts, hickorys, and ashes. They are still pretty small, only 3 or 4 feet tall, but already the deer use these fields. And yes I'm counting down too. 23 more days! OH YEAH!!!!

Va. Baiting not legal, SC. another story enuff said...has nothing against any state who allows such IMO a harvest is a harvest just do it legally. Oh and Urban Archery opens in 10 daysssssssssssss does only til Sept. 17-30 after then Bucks wild!!!! Then back to doe harvesting Jan 9 - Mar. 25

Opener can't come soon enough. I've been doing a lot of scouting the last couple weeks and have found some completely new spots with great sign. It'd help if those darn bucks would at least start making some rubs though. I have another scouting day planned for sunday, then I should be good to go.

Well, less than 3 weeks left for me now. :) Picked up a Mathew's Switchback yesterday to tinker with. Sold off my Mathew's LX so the Switchback ended up only costing me $150. Not a bad deal in my opinion. ;)

Took a trip to Cabela's in WV yesterday with my son and had a great time. Picked up a few odds and ends that I haven't been able to find locally in the stores/shops. Now I'm good to go. Only thing left to buy might be another dozen arrows but that's not a priority.

Hey guys,

just checking in, my season started this past saturday the 10th and it ended with minimal success...saw 3 doe had one in range but she winded me and took off.

I will definitely be checking in more now that I am at college and have high-speed internet

JeramyK...hows that switchback treating you?? I have been drooling over them for the last month and a half...I either wanted to get the SB or the LX...your opinion would be great

MEhuntalot, does that mean you are done done? Your season is over already? Man, that sucks if it is.

What really sucks (sort of) is I have to go to San Francisco on Thursday. I'll be back saturday night but I have some shooting I need to do. I'm still trying to decide on a fletching to use. My broadheads are flying kind of eratically. But, San Francisco is always....hmmm....interesting.

Well, I need to give it another week or two before I can really give my input on the Switchback. It's back in the shop to have the cam replaced. Going to be 7-10 days before I get it back. [&:]

I am heading out this afternoon to a place that I had very good success last year...one night there were 4 bucks together with 3 or 4 does...this is the place where the buck in the picture I posted before came from. There was a bigger one than him last year that I shot at and missed and so did my buddy...so hopefully I will get another crack at him!

Went out again tonight...no luck with the deer. Coulda shot another big tom but that wouldnt have been legal...I guess I am in some kind of early season funk so far this year

When do all your seasons start??? Its getting kind of quiet in this folder...hopefully your seasons start soon to liven this place up a bit

Mine starts Oct. 1st. I've been kinda quiet lately. Not much going on. I made my trip to Cabela's the past Saturday and picked up my last few odds and ends. I've been shooting daily and making sure my equipment is all ready to go. I'm still waiting to get my Switchback back from repairs. Should be sometime this week if Mathew's gets the parts to the dealer on time. Good thing I have a backup bow or I'd be going nuts with the season so close.

Mine started this morning. i just got back from san francisco and i've been dying to get into the woods. the trip was a disaster, topped off by a fire in the hotel at 4am (lots of smoke and just a little flames, no injuries or anything like that). but istill smell a little smokey.hehe. so, i'm going on very little sleep, but I'm on my way out to the woods. hopefully i'll have better luck tonight.

Well I got us on the board...:DJust hope its enough....Its not the biggest buck but one that I really wanted....I have the sheds to this deer from last year and a ton of trail cam pics of him fromthis summer....He didn't put on any points from last year, just length and mass...We suspect he's a pretty old deer and I am very proud to have taken him given the maturity and the history we have with him...I harvested him last night Sept. 16 and our opener was the 15th. I harvested a doe that morning and I shot a really really good buck that night...We lost blood at the edge of a standing corn field that night...We returned the morning of the 16th and looked for 5hrs. trying to walk out some of the corn and no luck[:@]Worse feeling I've ever had[:o]I contacted the farmer and told him of the situation and he said he would try and give me a call when he shelled corn and maybe I could ride along...Maybe I'll get to recover him later....I'm going to go back again tomorrow and look for buzzards or see if I can work into the wind and smell him....[:'(]Good luck to the rest of ya this season and stay safe....

Thats awesome...I will gladly take silence in the folder for activity in the field! Great Work alwyshntn...too bad to hear about the buck you hit and lost the night before but it happens to the best of us. Was it comparable to the one you submitted??

Well not to sound like the big one that got away story but the other buck was alot bigger...I am still sick to my stomach about losing that deer....I really hope we find him when the corn is harvested.... He was a main frame 10pt. and was about 18-19'' wide with great tine length and great main beams....Not alot of mass though....I hit him a little too far back I think...Thursday night was very sleepless.....:(

I'm sorry to hear about the other buck. [&:] I can totally relate to how you're feeling. Good luck with the recovery I hope you find him. Or, as with my situation last season, maybe he'll survive and show up again at some point.

The same thing happened to my father last season...he hit a smallish buck a little high and back and couldnt find it...to our surprise we saw the same buck running around effortlessly about 3 weeks later!

Well guys it about 12:45 and 74degrees and I can't stand it.. I'm going to get my stuff ready and head out again and try and fill another doe tag... We have a share the harvest program here and I'll try and donate a few this season if I can.

That is one fine buck! Congrats alwyshntn:D. Sorry I didn't reply earler but I went to the cabin in the catskill mtns. with my wife and another couple. Did a little scouting one day. Plenty of sign but didn't see any deer. Well it's good to be on the board! Can't wait until Oct. 15th for my season opener. Oh.......good luck with the other deer.

Well tonight was a good night saw quite a bit of deer movement and had the chance to get a little more meat for the freezer :D

Man you must have deer all around you. goodness!

I went out last night and saw a gray fox and a turkey. the fox walked within 10 yards of me. I've never seen one before, he's been taking up a lot of film on my camera though.

I'm not getting any buck pics anymore, haven't for about a month. I'm going to try to get a quick doe then I'm looking for bucks somewhere else.

I've got about 3 more weeks of hunting in my most productive area...then I will have to share it with rifle hunters...which means I wont be revisiting it

Then it will be off to some backwoods swampholes to try and ambush me a punch-drunk lover!

I dont think I mentioned this yet...My father and I both got drawn for the annual moose hunt up here...although it wont be with a bow, and it doesnt count for the contest it is still going to be a blast and I will most certainly post pictures...knock on wood!

I don't know much about scoring and never really tried it before to be honest...I usually just guess...Everybody else keeps telling me hes bigger than that too...I'm going to get him mounted but havent made it to the taxidermist yet..My taxidermist does scoring and maybe I should have him do it...Could I resubmit my score if it was wrong????
