RE: Official Team 13 Thread

I'm running on fumes ( work has been a bear thispast week )but since tomorrow is also going to be a busy hectic day, I figured I would post the details tonight.

First off... I have to thank my wife.Last night I was beat from work. I set the alarm for4 AM. Seems ( according to the wife )I put it in a world of hurts this morning when it went off. I don't remember. [&:]She woke me up a little later. This morning never would have happened without her!! I owe her big time!! :D

We got out toTyler's spot. I left Tyler in a great draw that we knew one really nice buck was using to go back to his bedding area. I continued on a 1/2 mile moreto another draw. With the late start,it was getting fairly light out when I got to my draw. A great little pinch point ( funnel ). I could see the feeding area once the light got good enough a half mile away. Isaw movement and grabbed the binocs.Agood buck was heading my way but still a good half mile away.Wasn't long and he was out of sight in the rolly land. Good news was he was heading to me or Tyler. Bad news... there was a few small sloughs he could stop at and bed down before he got to us.

A doe came within 40 yards from me. Then I noticedafew more deer coming from the feeding area...2 bucks and a doe.One was decent but pretty young yet, the other was was small. They disappeared. 20 minutes later, I caught movement in the draw. A buck was sticking to the insideedge of the cover but heading my way. It was the buck Tyler and I scouted this summer...

He had one more slough that he could possible bed in. I lost sight of him as he headed into it. 2 minutes later the two other buck came into the draw and also disappeared into the slough. I was thinking close but no cigar for me at that point. 10 minutes later... the big buck came out. He still hugged insidedthe cover and I hoped he would move out into the draw a little more. I wasalso hugging the insidecover and he was coming right at me!! I had no shot if he continued since I was playing at his level and not in a tree. Roughly at 35 yards he moved out. I breathed a sigh of relief!!He didn't move out much though. There wasstill a lot of cover to fight. I planned on a 20 yard shot and that wouldn't have been a problem. I had to pass on him when he got broadside at 10 yards!!! [:@] I wassitting ona " corner "though. Called thinking ahead!! :D He got past me and turned to go by me on the other side. Would have been a 4 yard shot but he stopped and decide to turn back on his original path. I foundan openingand got a 12 yard quartering awayshot. He piled up pretty fast and in sight.

What a hunt!! I doubt I will ever top this one... the hunt or the buck. I was pretty happy. Tylerhad2 smaller bucks go by him. He was pretty happy for mewhen I told him the news. I was worried he would be disappointed he didn't get a crack at him. He wasn't a bit although thiswhen I got home from work to take him hunting this afternoon... he asked mewhat happened to the double dibs he claimed on the buck.We both had a good laugh.

Be warned... a rough week at work, age, lack of sleep... I am not liable for making your eyes hurt!!! Tyler could only do so much with the camera. LOL Sure is a mighty fine buck though!!

Tim,

Awesome work man. I am very happy for you. What a great ND whitetail. He's a dandy forsure, off the ground to boot. What can I say, that scouting paid off and you have a beatiiful trophy whitetail to show for. Now your son can work on his!

Great Job again!

Must edit my previous comment to change from nice buck to really, really nice buck. I thought he looked real big laying down in the first picture but I talked myself out of him being that big... should have trusted my first instinct. Congrats on a terrific buck, and isn't it amazing what we do in the morning when we are half asleep and the alarm goes off, lol.

.....Protest, protest.....I am filing an unofficial HNI hunting contest protest!!! Half of this score goes to team 9.....Yes indeed, TJF could have killed this buck last year but was holding out until he got on another team!!! You can read his confession on the team nine thread!!!;):D

Hey, my friend, all kidding aside that is a monster buck! There are manywho will hunt a lifetime and not even see a buck of that caliber. And to think you did it all from the ground!!! Outstanding!!! I am so happy for you, Congratulations!!! Now if we can just have one of those boys walk by Tyler, you two would have a season for the ages!!!

On a side note, I see now why you normallytake a picture of only the deer ;):D[&:]....just kidding of course.....Shoot if I am lucky enough to get one you will see a mask over my ugly mug!!!

Wow, what a great buck Tim!!! Way to go!!!

Due to a technicality... your protest has beenover ruled. CASE CLOSED!!! Since I never had a opportuntity atthisbuck last year... I didn't pass on him. He is exempt from any past contests under this technicality. Rob will back me up on this one as I am sure he has it posted in the rules... in very fine print... that is JAVA SCRIPT orADOBEactivatedor something like that!! Trust me on this one!! ;)

I haven't gotten it.Just like your team andthe " real "mail men... you might deliver but it's always late or sent to the wrong place.

Should I" finally "get it and onceyour season gets underway... I am thinking of coming down there to cheer you on. You know... just as that big buck is one step from your shooting lane, I will pop out from behind a tree. Give a cheer "GO ANTLER EATER !!!"and do a cart wheel. See what a really nice guy I am?? Just thinking of you!! I'd do the splits butthen I wouldhave to beg you to put me out of my misery with your bowcause I ain't never getting up again!!

Man, I knew I should have read the "fine print" !!! Curses, foiled again!!! [:@]

Trust me on this one!
Are you sure you don't work for the government??!! Seems like I have heard a line similar to that before....Something about,..."I'm here to help you".....;)

Should I" finally "get it and onceyour season gets underway... I am thinking of coming down there to cheer you on. You know... just as that big buck is one step from your shooting lane, I will pop out from behind a tree. Give a cheer "GO ANTLER EATER !!!"and do a cart wheel.
You know what, that would almost be worth it just to see your attempt at a cartwheel in a cheerleader's outfit. On the other hand I might fall out of the tree laughingthereby hurting myself.....Perhaps it isn't such a good idea.

See what a really nice guy I am?? Just thinking of you!!
You are a nice guy and I do want you to know that you could come down here anytime...Goodness perhaps you could teach me how to kill a buck like yours!!!

I'd do the splits butthen I wouldhave to beg you to put me out of my misery with your bowcause I ain't never getting up again!!
Oh, I can identify with that for sure!!![&:] The only thing I can split without it being terminal is my personality!!

Good job buddy!!! Now I have my fingers crossed for Tyler!!!

Hey TJF, when you hunt on the ground do you use a blind or some kind of cover? It sounds and looks like you use tall grass. Am I right? I've shot a turkey and a small deer from the ground but I had a tree for cover both times.

Congrats TJF and team 13! That is definately a beautiful buck!

RE: Official Team 13 Thread

Talondale

I don't use a pop up blind. Some guys love them but I like being mobile should a stalk present itself if the deer are fairly close but not heading my way. I either make a natural blind from the surroundings or find enough cover to hide in.

Imake smallshooting lanes if sitting in tall grass, clover, cattailsor weed patches. The deer are real good for looking down them if you make them too big. I bend the cover overabout 2 - 3 ft high if I am sitting... higher if I am standingso it doesn't look like a trail. Learned the hardway long agowith a couple deer stopping to look down themand then walk in the lane right at me. I like them close but not that close and don't care for head on shots with a bow!! :D
