RE: Official Team 13 Thread
opening day in the old dominion went incredibly well in some respects, and incredibly bad in others. had issues with some new equipment, the fact there was little to no moon light didn't help any. I couldn't find my tree because I had a red lense on the flashlight and it wasn't picking up the tacks. after I take it off, I realize I don't have the clear lense with me, and hold the bulb to the battery. all this after bragging to my buddy that I have and can find my tree in the dark. get set up and that is when it starts. ten of seven I see a raccoon. five after seven I go to relieve myself after seeing a lone doe about 50 yds out walking away. and what do you know, here they come! a friggin herd of them. between 6-8 from my left and behind me, all DOWNWIND. long story short, I saw between 12-15 from seven until just after nine, and I missed two shots at does downwind at 20 yds. and to add insult to injury, I passed on a 10 yd upwind shot at a doe I thought was yearling, and wasn't. oh, I feel like such a rookie. I did see one six ptr in the whole mix. small, year and a half old. the evening I thought would've been alot better then it was. set up on a big apple orchard in the middle of the washington beltway of deer trails. wind was acceptable. saw two huge groundhogs, a squirrel, a beautiful red fox (I could've taken at any time) and a bunny rabbit. kicked one in the orchard on the way out. my buddy set up on the far end of the orchard from me, and they came out in the middle. figures. it was way warm yesterday too. I'll be going again monday eve maybe, but certainly tuesday eve and wed morning. time to go to that new property!

RE: Official Team 13 Thread
Saw a whole dang parade of about 12 does yesterday morning just out of range in the new place I mentioned.[:'(]
Moved my stand in 20 more yards & I'll try back there late next week I think. Also picked up another new one bordering unhuntable state land along the interstate. Looks real promising & I'm gonna hang a stand there one night this week when the wifes gotta work. I'll bring the boys, they like helping my hang a stand & looking for sign & such. Oldest ones 9, 3 more years & I think he'll be making his own venison. :D |
RE: Official Team 13 Thread

RE: Official Team 13 Thread
Finally had some deer come out last night w/in range.... but there's a twist. It was just about dark. Losing shooting light fast when a truck pulled up around the standing corn next to the alfalfa field and stopped. Next thing I know there are 2 guys standing on the field edge about 200 yards away. I get pissed and tie my bow to my rope, take the arrow off, etc. and get ready to lower my bow. Suddenly I hear crashing coming from my right and 2 deer come into the field about 15 yards in front of me and walk straight away on the edge. I couldn't get a god shot, so I am waiting for them to cut left into the field. Well, finally at about 30 yards or so they cut out, but are still quartering pretty severely. I draw my bow and wait. The bigger doe is just about to turn broadside, when suddenly the guys start their truck w/ high beams on and peal out and come driving across the other side of the field. The deer didn't spook too bad, but just enough to put them out of bow range. Then it was too dark. I was soooo angry!!!
I don't know what the guys were doing... scouting? starting trouble? poaching? I don't know, but it likely cost me a deer! |
RE: Official Team 13 Thread
well, after missing 2x on saturday, I shot a good doe about six ten pm tonight. she jumped the string and whirled pretty bad, but the arrow found its mark. saw four to five in a spot I really didn't expect much action because I walked all over it yesterday all sweaty. bowhunting never ceases to amaze me.

Good job. |
RE: Official Team 13 Thread
Congrats on the doe hoyt3. Glad you guys are seeing deer. Looks like our warm weather is over now and the deer should be moving better. Younger bucks are getting a little owly now. Hopefully soon the big boys get the urge.
Western MA Hunter Sorry to hear about your hunt. That is pretty common up here and only gets worse as rifle season gets closer. We have a few poachers in the area. Wish the game warden would nailthem. They know about them as we have complained aboutthem as has everyone one else in the area. I see they were floating around the farm while I worked last night right at dark.[:@] [:@] Tim |

here you go guys. she was about 18 yds. that is my 13 month old with me. she was in virginia fish and game magazine last year too. been warm here lately. didn't see anything last night, but we have a cold front and what is left of a tropical storm coming in for the weekend. suppose to cool things off a good ten degrees.

RE: Official Team 13 Thread
btw, I believe she was still nursing at the time. one other guy said that it looked like she was still lactating. there were two little button bucks in the area when she was shot.

RE: Official Team 13 Thread
Nice pic Hoyt3. Thanks for sharing. I hope to get a pic of my 15 month old princess w/ a deer this season too.
Went out last night and saw 4 doe, all way too far out in the field. One little one running around and chasing it's tail! Pretty entertaining! |
