Holy cow...with the snow disappearing like it is...there were turkeys out everywhere yesterday! I saw a flock of 24 on a buddies farm with 4 big longbeards and 5 or 6 jakes in the bunch. A mile up the road there was another flock of about 20 with 7 or 8 big jakes and one fat longbeard. A couple miles further up there was another group of birds with 3 longbeards and 15 hens. One of the gobblers was strutting for the hens and the other two were staying 20-30 yds. away from him. I can't say that I blame them 'cause I could see his hooks through my binos. One of the hens started yelping and he gobbled once. My first strutter and gobble of the year at the same time...

. I decided to check this spot again before dark and there was a flock of 45 in a cornfield with 20 jakes...15 of them were strutting at one time. Apparently, the hatch wasn't so bad last spring despite the crappy weather. I can't believe there weren't any longbeards out there with them? I know they're around though. On the other side of the road there was 20+ more birds but they were too far away to get a good luck at...but several were def. way bigger that the rest. The best news of all is that they were all in my hunting area! I'm gonna take a drive again tonight and check out several other spots. Man am I pumped for May 1st!!!!
Any other NY'ers been seeing any birds?
