I've hunted several times in Colorado with great sucess. We have found a great private ranch that just charges us a trespass fee to hunt the land (no guides). We have to do all the work ourselves but its worth it. Last year 5 out of 6 got elk 4 bulls 1 cow. If you want their phone # e-mail me.
