I can't say that I've ever witnessed a deer running because of a smooth sound from my can either, and I can say that I've killed both doe and bucks that came to it!
On edit: I have had plenty of deer ignore the "CAN" to the pointthat they may acknowledge that they could hear it, but simply had no interest in coming to investigate!
