at the base of the antler or where the antler turns to bone youll see in deer the bones thinner than the antler base. On more mature bucks you will notice that compared to smaller bucks that the bone conected to the base of the antler will be bigger in diameter and closer to the size of the antler. something a taxidermist told me.
