RE: \300 Mag VS Weatherby 300
What ever you are willing to lose.
When my friends and I first got into Weatherby's, we could not reach Weatherby's published ballistics usingpowders available to us. RL-22 gave us the best velocities, but did not reach Weatherby's velocities. We even went as far as purchasing Weatherby Factory Ammo, and took them apart to see if we could identify the power, but we could not. I did some researh and found out Weatherby used Norma components to build their factory rounds. I contacted Norma in Sweden, and asked them forloading data; they sent methe "Norma Loading Data 1995" whichon page (#25) that showed"Norma Weatherby Magnum" loading data. This data was just shy ofWeatherby's ballistics (our velocities were slightly greater than Norma's data using Norma MRP, and matched Weatherby's ballistics). I went to a "Rocky Mountian Elk Foundation" "Elk Camp" in Reno Nevada, and asked the Weatherby folks at their exibition booth if they used Norma MRP, and they looked at me and nodded yes. Now my problem was finding Norma Powders, and justover a year later Graf andSonsreceived their first shippment from Sweden.
If you still want to bet me, fine, but you are going to lose.
Find someone who owns a .300 Wby. Mag. with a standard chamber. Purchase a pound of Norma MRP (contact Black Hills Ammo 605-348-5150 speak to Tery for Norma MRP, or Lock Stock & Barrel 1-800-228-7925 and speak to Robert), Hornady 180 gr. Innerlock bullets, load, andyou will reach 3297 f/s.
Good luck.
