the pd170 is the pro version of the vx2100. it already has the xlr ports so you can run a wireless mic. if your going to be selling your footage i would get a better mic for the camera. you should look at b&h photo they have great prices and service. you can find the camera else where for a lot cheaper but the don't give you everything that comes with the camera. so you end up spending more. for example i was going to buy a xl2 for another project b&h around $3,000 another site for $2,000 i called other site to se what comes with it they told me every thing. i asked what didn't and they said the veiw finder that was another $2,000
