If I only had 400 dollars for a depenable rifle. I sure wouldn't buy a new one. I would find a good used remington 700 SS, or maybe a savage 116. Don't waste you money on the other junk. I guess you could find a H&R single shot.
I agree with this, these two will last a life time. Might also want to look at the Ruger M77's
