I think you have a lot more sense than I did when I started out! lol I began with a 55# recurve but quickly traded up a longbow that I was pulling 80#+ on--just didn't know any better. 45# will do the job on deer and turkey, and later on if you decide to go heavier you can get new limbs (with a take-down). You will be more accurate and have more fun shooing a bow you are comfortable with, and a double lung with 45# is a lot better than a miss with 100#.
