That picture has been around for years and no one knows if it was caused from an under spined arrow. Most likely it had a crack that was not seen before it was shot.

I have shot pretty under spined arrows with no ill effects. I think you would have to be shooting kids arrows out of a really fast bow at close to IBO specs to actually break one on release.

I actually like a slightly lighter spine for target arrows.
