well duh!
Sorry as I seemed to create confusion -

ya just gotta read.
Okay cost is not the issue - styleand shape of decoy are.
Would I use a mounted hen? Yes as you can't get closer to the real thing! But would I really use it? NO - to hard to carry. Would not take the punishement I put decoys thru. Thing has gotta start to stink if it got wet! man I have enouf stink just workin and makin wingbones for you guys!
Solid decoys - do I use the solid hen decoys? Yes I have two and again they are a pain to carry in and out of a set-up. But they make great breeding hen decoys when placed directly ont he ground. They are heavy, they are noisy and most times I leave em behind. But if Ihave a blind set-up for days on end - yes I use em.
Semi-solid - have several. These decoys can be called half shell and are made of a rigid plastic or rubber. I use them all the time or at least one. Is sorta of a pain to carry but it can be done. These where my 1st decoys I purchased. I even bought a new one - a 'bobble-head' hen in a feeding position I really like. But the consruction of it it won't last long.
Fold-ups Again I have several - from a jake and hen to just the old foam hen decoy. The other fold-ups are rubber and look very real. In fact the Jake I use for my Pretty boy set-up I posted last year. Bruce (the jake decoy) has a real fan added to it. Looks goofy enuf to really work and has worked well for dominat mature Toms but for those sub-dominat mature Toms it can be a deterent! I am adding a new fan to Bruce this year as I have a theory about Turkeys and visual ques. Will let you know how that works after I have tested my theory.
Foam Decoys - don't like them tho they do work. Body gets to beat up but man are they easy to carry. They swing like merry go rounds in any type of light breeze and Ireally hate that. In a strong wind better tie them down or you will be chasin' them down the field!
But my flock I go after decoys that look very real as possible, have the colors of the Turkeys I chase. Some of the marketed decoys one can purchase today look like crap. Willl they work. My guess at times they will but the ones that look more real, have no shine to the finishare the ones I suggest for you if you use a decoy.
And again using decoys is not a sure thing. Ihave had as many Toms shy from a decoy spread as they have brought in. Same goes for hens.
There did I git it right this time?
