The key would be... what time of the fall do you want the plot to be the most effective/attractive. With a small plot it is hard to plant a variety of foods well. You could go with good ol Ladino clover, which is great all summer and early fall with enough rain. Rye can be great mid to late fall if planted in mid/late August. Oats, winter wheat, rape can also be very effective in the Fall when done as a late summer planting.
It is hard to compete if there are alot of farm fields around. But a late summer - early fall planting of a frost hardy cereal grain, that will still be green after beans and corn are harvested, can be a great deer magnet.
